I play RuneScape, but I've heard a lot about WoW...which is better?

Better is subjective to personal preference. A better question is: "Which do you prefer?" However I shall answer the question.

Being as how I have never played RC I cannot comment on quality, but I do know, from personal experience that Blizzard is the master of quality, balanced gameplay. Blizzard takes pride in their games and it shows at every turn, with all the little details they take the time to perfect.

Personally I play WoW. I like the way it works, simple yet has depth, fun and challenging. the only part I hate is PvP -_- But that is hardly Blizzards fault people are jerks.

WoW gets my vote.

The difference is about $15 a month to my private Swiss bank account.

Think about it.

Get what you pay for. I am not saying free MMORPGs are bad at all, but I played Silk Road Online and WoW.

The difference is evident the second you boot up WoW. Blizzard doesn't just horde the money, they use it to good end, to make a quality product.

It's all about personal preference though, when it boils down to it.

Yeah...I'm talking about the members version of RuneScape, which is $5 a month, and I have it. And the quality of the game is VERY good, and they come out with an update almost every week. The graphics aren't extremely great, but they can't really be if they're using Java, and constantly have >1,000 people playing in each world. I have DSL, and it still gets quite laggy in more populated areas.

I haven't played WoW, and I don't know much about it...but it would be really hard to have much more depth than RuneScape. I've met people who have been playing for over 3 years, and still are only about 3/4 of the way done with the game!!!

EDIT: Nvm, I just looked at some screens of WoW, and that and RS are pretty close as far as graphics goes. WoW might be a bit better, but not a ton.

EDIT 2: I take that back again...I looked at more screens, and the models themselves are pretty close, but WoW's textures are WAY better.

In comparison to most other MMORPGs (I've played far too many), I felt that WoW had one of the better mid-game experiences, but the end-game is vastly inferior to that of most other games. That's just my opinion though. I can't even remember RuneScape clearly anymore, but I distinctly remember not liking it.

RS is like a poor-mans WOW IMO... I didn't like RS much aside from one thing... you could take someone out to like the "wild" then have friends waiting and jump him :P You can't kill you allies in WOW unfortunately.... "Can I have some gold please so I can buy some pants?" "Sure, follow me" WACK!!

Yeah...but guess what?! They took away the wilderness in RuneScape!!! Too many real-world traders were using it to transfer items. RuneScape isn't quite as fun anymore without that, but I never used it much. I liked the quests better. But a lot of people were like you, Jagex got HUGE rants after that move.

And if I have to pay $15 a month for WoW, then I'll have to stick to RuneScape. I don't get too much money from mowing lawns and my allowance.

I Hate runscape but love WoW. Nothing wrong with RS but i just couldn't get into it. I would recommend going onto blizzard.com and downloading the free 10 day trail and trying it out yourself. I play on Uldum so if you want some one to play with I will be playing a bit today.

Hmm...yeah, RS has a slow start, like a lot of MMORPG's. But sorry, I won't be able to get on WoW today...I can only spend like 5 minutes on here at a time most of today...stuff to do.

I might do that. But I won't be able to afford the full version 'til I get an actual job.

About the comment on playing Runescape for 3 years and never completed it, the same can be said for WoW. When the original game came out, they had 40 man raids (which I'm glad they got rid of :/) so to 'complete' the game, you wouldn't probably have to be able to do them all and get all the best epics available. Then BC came out, epics turned to greens, new raids came out, start again. Some guilds have beat the final boss, which was added on a patch and wasn't there from the start. Now, more raids are being added, harder than that even, and then a new expansion in a few months, probably.

So, the game doesn't end. The only people who have 'beat' it, are the best guilds, where the 25 people have stuck together through all the raids, thick and thin, and have some of the best gear possible in the entire game, thus far...

MMORPGs are like crack. They rob you of time, and in the end are simply a waste of time. I played Runescape for years. Now that I don't anymore, I am quite happy about it. MMORPGs are designed so they always have a carrot in front of you. World of Warcraft? Nah. World of Warcrack.

To an extent, that is their charm.

But hey, whats the difference between watching a movie for a little entertainment or playing a game?

Heh. I have yet to meet someone playing WoW that can see what it does to them. If you're talking casual gaming thats one thing. But most WoW players that I know get waaaay to into it. If you start treating friends IRL different because you need to be at home to be in a raid or something....you're taking the game too far. I have yet to see someone become addicted to movies like people get addicted to MMORPGs.

Because a film actually carries storyline and depth. I'm not paying good money every month to walk around a click things, leveling up to some arbitrary number for no reason.

Only MMORPG I ever really got into was City of Heroes/Villains, and that lagged so terribly and got so repetitive that I soon lost my taste for the genre. And if I ever took it up again you can bet I'm not paying that subscription fee.

I play with people I do know IRL.

In fact thats part of the reason I started to play, I know several people who play it.

I vote neither. For fifteen bucks a month you could donate a little extra to your church collection plate, without the risk of becoming an MMO addict.

Runescape is just about the worst MMO ever created.

The reason why people like it, is that it's so easy.

Most MMO games have free 10-14 day trials. I suggest Guild Wars, since there's no subscription fee but whatever.

Here are some free MMOs that are better than runescape if anything.

You clearly have not played Runescape in the last like 4 years. LOL Many of the quests they added and large group required monster kills are far from easy.

I can only play RuneScape for like a month then I get sick of it. It's sort of an "on, off" thing.

The reasons I don't play WoW are, first of all, the game shows way to much skin for my liking, if you know what I mean. Second, I don't have the money.

Guild Wars is good from what I hear. I haven't played it though.
