Is there a good fansite for this that I can go to for new info as it comes? EDIT: Found one, http://www.dragonballmovieblog.com/

Anyway, is anyone else disappointed that they're doing Dragonball instead of Z? I mean, Z was a lot more popular in the States anyway so that's a bit surprising, but the fighting was way more intense in Z anyway.

I have mixed feelings about that. While I may be in the minority on this, I found Dragon Ball immensely unfunny and the action lacking. And really, if I'm going to see a movie I'm fairly certain will not be intelligent or edifying, I want it to have spectacular special effects or choreography. But it appears it will be a while before we see a Super Saiyan on a Hollywood budget.

She and Emperor Pilaf essentially disappear after the first phase of the plot (not counting GT).

Your not the only one that feels that way.

Thanks, I couldn't remember when she and Pilaf came in.

I was wondering if she didn't have that much of a role, since there was some people thought that Mai was just made up for the movie.

I'm of the mind that 98% of the time, live-action versions of animated series are epic fail. So while I'm morbidly curious about this production, I don't think I could justify paying 8 bucks to go see it. Because it might encourage them to make even more really bad adaptations. But then, I did go see Transformers and it was pretty decent...

Not at all... I mean, I hated Z. I will hate Z until I die. The original Dragonball had some cool stuff in it, though. The exploration, mostly. The "intense" fighting in Z was just silly. It was repetitive and boring and annoying, and I'd rather see people explore this strange world and have the story center around the wishes then have it "CHARGE UP... Grrrrrrrrrrrrr! Now run into each other 500 times... You're stronger than I thought, charge up again! Grrrrrr! Oh my Gosh it's only 5 minutes until the planet Namek Explodes!!! (3 movies later) Man, just a minute left until the Planet Namek explodes!"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evcNPfZlrZs Watch this movie なう。 It's legal, free... And it's more than its premise. It's not saying Fast Food is good food. Just watch it.

Can anyone confirm the accuracy of this link? There are some images on it that surprise me mildly. If Goku is taking classes anywhere this isn't the DB we all know.

Roy Mustang wrote:Your not the only one that feels that way.

That is good to hear. I think you are the first person I have met who agrees with me on this.

Roy Mustang wrote:I was wondering if she didn't have that much of a role, since there was some people thought that Mai was just made up for the movie.

She's a very unimportant minion. If I recall she never fights anyone directly, does anything significant, or has a critical line. I suppose it is possible they're playing up her role in order to have a female antagonist.

I don't disagree with any of that, but have you read the manga? It doesn't waste nearly so much time and is really on par with most modern shonen. There isn't the exploring aspect you enjoyed, but any DBZ film would definitely avoid the filler of the anime.

The five-minutes-that-went-on-for-two-weeks thing was exclusive to the anime. I think it was because the anime had caught up to the manga and couldn't go any further until new chapters came out. Not trying to justify it-- I stopped watching DBZ after that fiasco --I was just clarifying.

I READ THAT TODAY.

AMAZING. I was kind of like "Wow, this movie is going to be so bad it's good" before I heard the news, but Chow Yun-Fat?! on top of Stephen Chow? Man, this movie is going to be AMAZING. I don't care what the naysayers say anymore. If the movie is bad, it will be so bad that it's good (please refer to any of Stephen Chow's crazy movies).

And I'm not even a DBZ fan; in fact, I kinda dislike it. BUT. AMAZING. AMAZING. AMAZING.

The bit about Goku in highschool worries me, but I guess Chow Yun-Fat as Roshi isn't too bad. XD I find it odd that Emmy Rossum is Bulma--I have a hard time seeing her in that role. XD We'll see, though. XD

XDDD
I wonder if Bulma will sing?
I find it pretty cool that there are so many big name actors in this movie though! ^_^; I mean, maybe it will be good!!! :D

Why would big name actors sign up for a movie that sucks, after all? (okay...don't answer that.... *slinks off an hides* )

XD That is great! lol! Great and bad at the same time... ah, but you make me laugh!

As for a Dragon Ball movie... with real people!? What the flip? I can't see how this will be any good, but I can say I am interested in seeing it simply because I'm curious as to how this will work. However, I will probably rent it... or better yet, wait till someone puts it on youtube. I don't know about this. It sounds really weird... why make an anime into a movie? Is DBZ that popular? Wow, I can't see this... What will they do next?

But again, I'll be watching this somehow... if only to satisfy my curiosity and laugh at how horrible it actually could turn out to be!

I agree that they seem to be deviating from the formula and that will create backlash. But it only dropped by opinion one notch, because it also means that they're trying to create their own story, not just reproducing what has already been seen. Working from that position, I think the DB universe has a lot of potential.

...I had a sudden vision of the movie being a school-analogy fanfiction of DragonballZ, sort of like the school ending theme of Naruto.

Goku is a juvenile delinquent and Bulma is the school newspaper editor; together they band to defeat Mr. Piccolo, the evil principal who wants every student to suffer from doing too much homework!

Trilogy?! Man, if the first one doesn't BOMB. Seriously, the other people who want to watch this are kids, DBZ fans, and the curious (that's me). The critics are going to blast it even if it's an amazing work of art, simply because they don't understand DBZ, man. At the same time, all the fanboys will be **** about the changes (even if the changes are better); I think that while I personally will probably enjoy this movie, it's going to tank, and I kinda doubt a trilogy is even gonna happen.

And man, that blog scares me, Goku in school, taking classes. And looking like a cute (?) normal high schooler.

Well, I AM relieved that Goku doesn't have plastic anime hair. Can't wait to see Super Saiyan.

Once again, I'm not wholly negative. This looks like it will just be a martial arts movie that happens to be inspired by a manga. Those don't have to be horrible.
