Last Exile on TechTV - "white washed"?

Postby awsam007 » Thu Mar 11, 2004 6:06 am

I'm so glad this is being shown on TechTV. This series is fast becoming my new favorite. I think it's just the depth of the steampunk "world" and the high production values of Gonzo's 10th anniversary anime that I love so much.

Anyway, I've noticed for some reason this anime seems to be "washed out" a little on TechTV. There's too much white in the picture which is really noticable since this aniime has losts of daytime sky shots with sun reflections etc. I can tell because I bought the first 4 eps on DVD and they looked way better - certainly weren't washed out anyway. I know it's not my TV since it's properly calibrated and looks fine with other animes, even ones from TechTV. Anyone else expiriencing this? It's so bad it almost takes away from the enjoyment of the show. Luckily I'm more of a story/plot person than a art/graphics person so I can still watch and enjoy. :)

It's been on all this week (almost over) at 10pm EST. Then they're running all the episodes in order, in case you missed any, on Sunday as a mini-marathon ending Sunday night at 10pm when they're going to show an episode (ep 13 I think) which hasn't even been released by Pioneer/Geneon yet. The series is 26 long, so I guess they're only showing the first half right now. I heard they have the license to show the last 13 in the coming months though, so stay turned! :thumb:

I noticed the white wash too. The 2 eps. I watched tonight were ok, but in the previews it looks extremely too bright in spots. I have the first 2 dvds and I agree that the dvds do look better.

BlueElf, nice avitar. After Last Exile, the Crest of the Stars trilogy is prob my favorite anime.

I can't believe we have to now wait for months to see the end of this series. There's 7 volumes and volume 3 isn't even released yet from Pioneer!

Yeah, Last Exile is pretty cool. I didn't really think about the picture quality... I don't really have the DVDs to compare against.

I've never really gotten a straight answer on this one, but A) does it have any sex or nudity in it B) are there only gonna be five volumes. (Sorry for being so persistent, but I think I'm gonna ask for this for my birthday if I find out.)
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.
