Thanks for the info. I enjoyed Sailor Moon when it was on Toonami a few years ago, so maybe I will but the dvds before they are all gone.

I wish I had the money to buy them. You're talking about the subbed uncut box sets right?

Uh-oh!

Postby Shinigami » Thu Mar 11, 2004 8:03 pm

Well, I can't say I didnt see it coming. Sailor Moon in its broadcast form in the USA is vastly different from the uncut episodes. Lots of contraversial stuff in there. ADV is probably trying cut costs and put money into newer series or something. *shrug*

...Though I wish they'd stop DBZ :P They've brought everyone back from the dead in that series and it never ends. Its like that Lambchops Play-along song...ack NOOO >.<

http://www.rightstuf.com has the season 1 and 2 boxsets for around 50 bucks a piece I think. Which is waaay cheaper than the regular price if anyone's interested. I'm thinking of getting season 2. It was my favorite and I've been interested in seeing it uncut, but never bought it. Maybe I should invest in it now if I want it before it's off the market.

Just so you know, it's not ADV's fault... It was Toei's Decision... Thankfully, my brother ordered me the season 1 DVD's... Toei has been a bunch of freaks from day 1. They wouldn't let DiC, Pioneer, or ADV have one of the episodes for any of the releases and now they won't let ADV renew their license to distribute the show. That, and they changed the show drastically from the Manga (making it monster of the week, the inclusion of Homosexual characters that weren't that way before (though there were a few in the manga), and the changing of the art style... I actually prefer the anime's style over the manga's. Those long skinny fingers that come to points really bug me... They have long necks, weirder hair and of course the hair colors are even wilder (they are pastel and multi-toned in the manga) It's sorta a toss up in what I like and don't like about the changes... Even so, Toei is still being a bunch of whiney babies.

Even though most of the Sailor Moon fans will shoot anyone who says this, what about the DiC version? I know of at least one person who loves it in this format (granted, she hasn't seen the original) -- will that still be available?

I read that it applies to the dubbed version of the first 2 seasons as well as the subbed uncut ones. I don't know how it affects the 3rd or 4th season though.

Yes. DiC's, pioneer's, and ADV's licences all run out for the first 2 seasons... No more DiC version either... Besides, the last 3 eps of season one really invalidate the whole show on the DiC version... The rest of it, minus the name and music changes, is mostly on par with what you'd expect, but the last 3 episodes of season 1 were ruined the most...

I got my season TWO dvds yesterday. I've been watching them and have now seen every episode of the first 3 seasons... i thought I only had Stars left, but remembered I never finished watching SuperS either... Oh well... I wonder if S and SuperS is part of that restriction? Pioneer owns the rights on those for now, and I don't know when their rights wear out...

I gotta say, though, ADV sure did give us bare essentials... They sound old, they look old... The sound is horrible... It sounds like it was recorded on VHS on EP. The video is washed out. The only part of the show they restored was the end theme. They did that because they had to use stripped sequences so they could have the English credits... Kitto Ririshiku, which I'm guessing is the second most loved song in SM, sounds great. The sequence looks clean. The opening, though, sounds like it was rolling off a phonograph.

I am almost to the end of the Rubeus arc. I had never seen any of it except the last two eps, and a couple eps in pure Japanese (oh, and 3 or 4 in French and a couple on Cartoon Network) I am very glad to be over the Doom Tree arc... I can't believe I ever liked that... There's no real tension, no suspense... They steal energy, but no one can die... Blah...

I actually like the Rubeus saga... Mostly because Naoko actually WROTE that arc... The doom tree thing was filler so they could have more eps while they were waiting for her to write more manga.

Anyhow, Even the naoko stuff is cheeseball... It's ok. This is pure nostalgia for me. Besides that, It was good to get a little background on the Chibi Usa story... One of the scenes that DiC cut out of her first ep was too funny... If you've only seen the DiC version, you have to see it to understand...

I really had wanted the first season, but I suppose eps I hadn't seen yet are better than just watching my faves...

Then again, if I don't get it before April, I guess I'm pretty well... Hmm... Oh well... I may actually have money to get it next month.

I wish I could get these DVDs. ; ___ ;

I really miss the whole...Black Moon part of the story. That was my favorite part. Even though it was hacked up into pieces for the dub, it still had a pretty decent story. *misses her home-recorded Black Moon episodes.*

Have you seen them in fansub format? Actually, you prolly haven't ... Chikashitsu's subs are pretty rare, so the only fansubbed eps that were readily available were the last portion of R that DiC didn't release for a long time. If that's the case, you really need to see Chibi-Usa's first ep in Japanese... When she drops out of the sky, they did show that, but they didn't show the immediately following scene... You've prolly seen pics of it on SOS or something, though... It doesn't compare to seeing it in the show
She pulls this big pistol on Usagi and demands the Silver Crystal. Usagi's on the ground and Chibi Usa's standing over her and she talks in this deep voice... It's so funny. (of course the Gun's just a toy)
Just got done watching them... Now i want to see the rest of it... So many memories... Of course, I realize now how cheesy it all is, but it doesn't matter... I still love it. Cheesy can be good too. Sometimes...

I can't believe I watched so many episodes in such a short amount of time... Of course, I can watch 3 eps an hour, and there are fourty something alltogether... Still a good 13 or 14 hours of watching... (I don't watch the opening usually, and usually skip the ending too...) I do skip all of the transformations, and the long drawn out attacks, and I usually skip past most of the battles... So, yeah, I probably only watched about 9 hours worth... The show's much shorter when you cut out the fluff...

There is one battle I'd never skip, and that is the one between the sailors and the four phantom sisters. That's one of my favorite moments in that season... My favorite moment, though, would be "Nurse Venus" oh yeah... That's so funny... I'm sure the dubbies know what I'm talking about, because I doubt there's anything in this one to cut out. My other two favorite moments are from Artemis' ep where the cats and dogs and stuff were all doing a pyramid, and this kid says "I want the kitty on the top" and they all start attacking everyone, and the cat he wanted jumped right on his face... I know it wasn't supposed to be funny, but I thought it was hillarious. Oh, and of course, Chibi Usa's introduction... hehehe...

Toei sucks for doing this... The place my brother got season 2 dvds from doesn't sell either of them anymore... I gotta get it on half, and people are driving up their prices... I hope toei doesn't pull something and re-release it in Japan with restored animation and sound and then resell it to ADV, making my version invalid...

Sorry to say, they don't sell the boxsets there anymore... Apparently they were flooded with orders and ran out... That's what I'm guessing, anyhow. They don't show up in the search anymore, and I couldn't find them in the index either... They're gone... Right after my brother bought my season 2 DVDs, they disappeared.

I bought them when they first came out because I LOVE Sailor Moon. So good...I will agree that the sound quality on the first season was pretty nasty.
Maybe our mistakes are what make our fate. Without them, what would shape our lives? Perhaps if we never veered off course, we wouldn't fall in love, or have babies, or be who we are. After all, seasons change. So do cities. People come into your life and people go. But it's comforting to know the ones you love are always in your heart. And if you're very lucky, a plane ride away.
