Favorite Shojo Manga?

Postby Iapetus » Mon Feb 23, 2004 12:01 pm

What kind of shojo manga does everyone like? Sometimes the most popular anime and manga titles appear to be shounen, and I wonder which ones are people's favorites. ^^

Favorite shojo manga:
Fruits Basket
W-Juliet
Kare Kano
Alice the 19th
Sailor Moon

I saw a bit of Furuba the manga, and I liked what I saw of that. Since there's no more anime, I guess I'll be reading the manga for the rest of the story.

Yes, Angelic Layer is part shoujo, going a little Shonen.

Otherwise my favorite shoujo manga has to be X/1999 and I sometimes like reading Magic Ray Knight Earth, when I am at my friends houst

Angelic Layer, Magic Knight Rayearth, Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura are my favorite Shojos. That is very little compared to how much Shonen titles I read.....

Magic Knights Rayearth
Angelic Layer
ION
Time Stranger Kyoko

I'm not sure how you classify Azumanga Daioh, but I like that one too! ^^

My favorites are Magic Knight Rayearth, Angelic Layer, and Card Captor Sakura. I also like Fushigi Yugi. I read as much, if not more, shoujo than I do shounen, though some titles I read are a mix of both.

Chobits is at least half shojo, so we have that one, Fruits Baskets, Magic Knight Rayearth, and Suki. Onegai Teacher is more shojo than shonen, so we'll throw that one in too.

Top three: Onegai Teacher, Chobits, and Fruits Basket.

Shojo is my favorite. I do read more of that than shonen.

My favorites are:

Hot Gimmick
I.N.V.U.
Girl Got Game (Gotta get the next one!)
Cardcaptor Sakura
Fruits Basket
Kodocha no Omocha
Marmalade Boy
Alice 19th

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

i love shojo manga... unfourtunatly it can be difficult to find shojo that is relatively clean (most shojo ive read has some form of nudity or sexual content) but there is one that i read that has minimal amounts of those (at least so far as im only on vol. 2 and cant find 3 ANYWHERE) and that is

Ceres: Celestial Legend. its really well written and has amazing art. but again i cant provide any details as to content after the first 2 volumes

Ehh, I wouldn't consider Naruto to be shoujo. I really haven't read much shoujo, though, although I think MegaTokyo is kind of shoujo-ish.

I wouldn't consider Naruto shojo since it is in SHONEN Jump... (it is a good series, though).

Kodocha
Marmelade Boy

I don't have much "manga" experience.

I would read Sailormoon if there were an accurate translation out there that didn't use the DiC naming convention and universe laws for the series.

Isn't there a Please Save My Earth thread somewhere? Anyway, I read the whole manga series and all I can think of it a little bit of violence, some 'light shoujo' nudity, suggested rape, reincarnation, some weird psyhic powers, angst and drama....

It's actually a very interesting story if you don't mind the above and the complicated love plots with just a bit of nearly non-existant shoujo ai (or was it shonen ai? I forgot which character turned into which since after getting reincarnated one of the characters switched genders ^^;; ).

most of the comic books i read are oriented towards girls (and i make sure before i buy them that there is no extreme smuttyness) the are:

-"Fruits Basket"
-"Clover" (though i heard it was geared towards "women" not "girls"; i don't know really)
-"GALS!"
-"Urukyu"
-"Imadoki!"
-"DiGi Charat"
and many more...
p.s. i don't think chobits is a girl's comic... considering it ran in a boy's magazine.

Hah! We're going to the same shonen sites as well ^^;;; And yeah, bittorrent and html all the way XD You should try Anime Waves's Perfect Girl Evolution--that has got to be the silliest/stupidest 'serious' shoujo I ever read XD

Fushigi Yuugi is one of my favorites, though I have yet to read more Manga. It is a newer hobby for me and I am sure it will later be replaced by a different title.

Shoujo titles I am interested in:

- Sailor Moon

- Fruits Basket

- Magic Knight Rayearth

- Ceres, Celestial Legend

- Card Captor Sakura

:thumb: Sounds like a decent list to start off with!
