Well we all knew this thread should rear its ugly head, just kidding. So is anybody going to see it?
Man, is it just me or are they advertising a little too much for the movie? Well from all of the commercials they are playing about it, it had better be good. (Note there will be tons of crude and irrelevant humor. Just a warning.)

I'll take your word for it. But still Id like to see it, just to say I saw it. I didn't watch a whole lot of the simpsons show, but it was funny.

I remember there was this episode where they had to send Bart to a catholic school and for some reason Homer attended as well. And Homer had cheated by writing on his arm that "heaven=good and hell=bad". I just couldn't help but laugh at that.

It is crude ala 'like the worst Family Guy episode' or mildly crude like the tv series?
Looks good but I hope it's like the earlier seasons.

Yeah unfortunately The Simpsons haven't been as good for about 8 years now.

That being said I have seen every episode that has been produced, and feel compelled to see the movie.

With most animated shows into movies...it usually spells the beginning of the end of said show.

I really, REALLY used to love this show! But now I think it is time to put it down.

Given that it has been over a year since the last thread, this one is fine.

I'm going to wait and see what people say about the movie. While I agree the Simpsons has been in recent years, it still occasionally makes me laugh pretty hard. If they put a lot of effort into getting the movie right it could be very enjoyable.

Im just asking for future reference if the problem should ever arrive. There isn't a rule, so discern as best possible on a case by case basis. Generally speaking, gravedig if you just want to bring the subject back to the front of the forums (this would have been an acceptable gravedig, for example) and make a new thread if there is new information or the previous thread was massive.

Read a couple of reviews on people who watched the midnight showing on IGN, and so far the ratings are a 9 or higher! I'm actually REALLY surprised! Although, they said the comedy is mostly in the first half and the last is moreso... random... Still, those are pretty good ratings for it^^

Watched it last night. The movie is fantastic! You'd never even know that the script had been mediocre for the past few seasons. There is such care in the writing and its clear that everyone who worked on this project did it because they loved what they were doing and wanted to have a good time doing it. I can see why Groening has held out for such a long time on putting this sucker out, but man it was worth it.

That said, I wasn't expecting much at all, but having loved the show since I was a kid, I felt compelled to watch it.

Stole the words right from my mouth. It's just worn itself out. I still watch the reruns from time to time, but the new episodes, meh, don't even bother. I'm probably gonna go see it with my friends mainly because we all grew up watching it religiously(back when it was good), so i guess i'll just have to go check it out. It looks funny in the previews, but i'm skeptical.

So, it seems certain members of my family are larger fans than I had known, and we saw the film today. It was alright. If it had been an episode it would have been worth my time, but I'm not so sure it was worth my money. While it had its share of funny moments, there were some weak parts as well.

It reminded me of the earliest episodes, before the show was really about comedy. The dramatic/emotional bits have always felt like unnecessary baggage to me, and this was even more pronounced with the movie.

I actually almost prefered those early-mid season episodes. Not the EARLY EARLY couple of seasons which were VERY focused on drama on the family with bits of comedy in development, but where there were good stories and still the impact on irony they had...it just made one heck of a show^^ But now, there's just something about random things happening in the episodes, plotholes from left to right and everything (Family Guy I concider different plothole wise, because that's just the type of show it is). I mean that one episode where Grandpa was going out with Selma (or was it Patty?) was just... a bit too much...

Half and half I'd say.

The first 45 minutes or so are totaly gags and jokes that were to me the best part of the film. Not to say they are completely gone once the "story" kicks in, but the pacing is definately different from that point on.

I will say there are a couple of random bits that they could not have gotten away with on tv, but it doesn't ruin the film for me.

All in all I would recommend that anyone that was a fan of the Simpsons in its heyday (about 8 years ago) will love this....WHY CAN'T THEY DO THIS TYPE OF WRITING IN THE SHOW?!

I noticed in the credits that the writing cast was huge, including some "classic" Simpsons writers Al Jean, Mike Reiss and John Schwartzwelder. That may have contributed to the "better" humor.

I absolutely HATED the scene with Bart's 'dare' but otherwise loved all the gags. It was basically a single episode, but three times as long with no commercials.

There was definitely randomness in multiple senses. However, there was a more advanced drama-oriented plot than you see in most episodes (though not as much as the earliest ones). But, to be blunt, I've always thought Simpsons drama was pretty hokey and poorly written, so my preference is for none of it.

Unfortunately we were in a hurry, so we left knowing this was happening. It will be on YouTube, though, what Bart wrote on the chalkboard notwithstanding.

Yep I saw the movie today, but I didn't stay to the very ending. This movie sure earned its PG-13 rating because there were quite a few bits that I found to be questionable and I won't go into details of what they were. Id have to agree with UC, if it was on tv it would have been great, but they still were able to do a few things they couldn't do on tv as someone else said.

And also why was Fox advertising one of there other shows during the movie? It was on the bottom so you'll have to look for it. Its about mid-way in the film.

It wasn't bad. It was worth the five bucks I paid to see it at least. It started out great, but then it got more bizarre as it went on. Still, I got a few good laughs out of it.

Oh, a great treat for the older fans.
[SPOILER=last part of the movie]After Homer and Bart jump the Springfield Gorge on the motorcycle, you see the wreckage of the ambulance from ALL the way back in the second season when Homer jumped it on a skateboard. That was pretty awesome.[/SPOILER]

I left during a scene with Mr. Burns and I know at the very end of the credits there's a brief part in which you see the Simpson family as if they're still in the theater and they chat about things. The latter part wasn't very funny and is only notable in that Maggie says her first word: "sequel?" But I don't know what else might have been included.

Vaguely on that subject... where was Sideshow Bob? He's the only major character I never saw.

@ Punguni- Actually I did expect stuff but what happend during Bart's dare, I did not expect. You'll know it when you see it.(In the show they could of never done this. And note Im not talking about the language.) And don't comment on the movie's content untill you've actually see it.

It isn't really a spoiler, not technically, I just didn't want to ruin the eyes of the watchful fans...but yeah, it's there...still wrecked, and a bit rusted, but it's there.

Second word, technically. Her first was "daddy" in the episode where Homer talked about how Maggie was conceived. But it's the first word the family has heard her say (she said her first word when no one was around).

There was one other thing, at the VERY end of the credits you see the Pimple-Faced Kid sweeping up the floors muttering about "Being assistant manager isn't all it's cracked up to be," and then exits to the side, reenters and says, "I went through four years of film school for this?"

I thought it was funny, at least.

Man, I really should have stayed after the film. It looks like they're taking all clips of the easter eggs off YouTube and similar sites, so it may be some time before I can see all this stuff.

That seems a reasonable explanation. If there is a sequel (setting aside my feelings on whether or not there should be one at all) I would hope it involves him. He seems too integral a part of the Simpsons world to be absent.

That's the thing. When I saw it I couldn't ask myself, "Why did they put that in there?" because I know for a lot of people it will be the funniest part of the movie. Sad, really.
