She needs more screen time or I think she does. It would make me very happy.

I can't really think of any animes off-hand where I find a character to be underappreciated, really, though. I'll have to come back to it, I guess.

Crimy, read the Manga. Do it!

ALEXANDER ANDERSON!!

Can I get an Amen?

Abject heresy. Pretty much every named character in Hellsing has a bloodthirsty, dedicated fanbase. With the possible exception of Mr. Penbroke. Even the Letzte Battaillon has fans left and right, and those guys are Nazis, "Slime of humanity" and everything. If anything, Anderson is distinctly popular.

You want underappreciated? Fuhrer King Bradley from FullMetal Alchemist. He pwns everyone in the Manga to such a degree that his highly downplayed roll in the Anime is borderline depressing (how the mighty have fallen). And even where he is recognized, he's generally disliked by Greed fangirls, who are thickly numerous. Whatever people. All I can say to them is that my fandom beats the tar out of yours. Canon.

Kim Hotal in Rahxephon. Come on, she got a whole ep about her childhood! She deserved better.

Purely from a fanfiction point of view (maybe from the actual story too, I dunno), Hohenheim of Full Metal Alchemist is underappreciated. There are almost NO fics about him. Everyone's obsessing over Mustang and Hawkeye, when Hohenheim is perhaps THE most important character in the entire story!!!!!!!!
No Hohenheim, no Ed and Al, probably no Dante (because she would've died a natural death without his Philosopher's Stone), no marauding Homunculi, and thus no story!!!!
I liked Cube from Petite Princess Yucie. Before Arc came along I was rooting for him to get her. ^-^ I liked most of the characters in that show, but I don't think Cube got enough credit for his awesomeness.

Mitsukake from Fushigi Yugi! Most of the characters would be dead if it weren't for him

Kenichi from Metropolis. I love that anime movie, but I hardly hear anything about it. I agree with CKitsune, too - Winry is a wonderful camera that I'd love to see get more coverage in both the anime and the manga.

Haha, the questions aren't covered in the manga -- the anime deviates quite a bit from the manga, especially in its later episodes and ending. The manga hasn't ended and actually introduces some more plots and characters.

Perhaps it is support characters that are overlooked more. Granted, you can only cover so much characterisation in a series, but sometimes those support characters are ones you'd love to see have a split-off series of their own.
