WoW!!!....... ....This is going to be odd seeing Jr. being teamates with Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson....

....I mean they haven't been serious rivals, but I know that there have been many a fight between the hendrick drivers fans and jrs fans.....

...this could get interesting.......

I call it iorny!

Kyle Busch is out of Hendrick Motorsports after this year. Dale will drive the #5 next year and Mears team will work with Dale's team.

Hendrick Motorsports has had a spilt team set up. Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson crews are one team and Mears and Busch was the other team.

They will be teamates and all. Just that Hendrick has always done it this way.

I come from a true redneck family. My Mom memorized when the press conference was and we both sat on the couch five minutes before it started so we wouldn't miss anything.
I think this was his most logical choice, and the whole thing seems to be going over pretty well. I want to see how it plays out.

Man, it's going to be really odd seeing Jr. in the #5 car, especially after he's been in the #8 veichle for so long.....He and his step-mother must have had a really really big disagreement for him to go to Hendrick and give up the #8 veichle....

Again, I say this could get interesting.....

Actually, it hasn't been decided whether or not Jr. will drive the number 5 or not (As of yesterday's conference)

They are actually trying to negotiate with Teresa about #8

I TOTALLY SAW THIS COMING!

I couldn't believe it at first though, i thought it was a dream XD. I am really excited though! Kinda wiereded out, but excited!

Yeah, I heard about that. But do you really think Teresa is going to hand over the #8 to them?

There is a little part of me, that would like to see him still have the #8, but the other side of me, doesn't.

Just think how much Dale Jr #8 die cast cars may go for after this.

Actually she does. According to what I read. DEI owns the number 8.

from jayski.com wrote:NASCAR owns and assigns car numbers to an owner(s). NASCAR reserves the right to revoke or transfer car numbers to another owner/team at any time. Car numbers are non-assignable and non-transferable, except by NASCAR. NASCAR works with teams and sponsors when a specific number is requested. If duplication of numbers occur, which usually happens with the part-time teams, the fastest qualifier usually gets to use the number unless one team is considered full-time.

Now that being said,

Dale Jr can request that number, but its NASCAR that can say its okay. So, for now, the number is own by her. Untill NASCAR feels that another team should have it.

Which, I don't think they will give the okay to Him and let her keep the number.

NASCAR owns all car numbers. The team owners pay NASCAR to use them.

Nope, NASCAR still owns the number regardless. If Hendrick wants to pay NASCAR to use it, then they can use it, no questions asked.

Whatever, you didn't read my last post that well. Plus, it sounds like you want to just argue about anything now a days. Why do you care anyway, you are a F1 fan and sounds like you have no clue about NASCAR rules anyway as it never stated that they pay for a number.

Can I see some offical rules on that. Because everything I have read says DEI owns the 8 and Hendrick owns the 5.

Um, I've been around NASCAR since before I could speak a word.

Just because I like F1 more doesn't mean I don't know anything about NASCAR. I've been to the races at PIR at least 6 times, I've talked to more drivers and officials than I ever dreamed of. You need to take my word for it, because what I say is the truth.

Besides, the rules regarding the numbers have been stated on TV before.

I am so confused!!
Something tells me that Beau is right...but don't the owners have some sort of contract with Nascar and they can keep the numbers as long as that contract lasts?

Okay, I was wrong on that a team does buy the number and yes, they are own by NASCAR.

But She does have the rights to the number.

Hendrick not sure what DEI wants in exchange for No. 8

SONOMA, Calif. -- Car owner Rick Hendrick has let it be known to officials at Dale Earnhardt Inc. that he'd like to purchase the No. 8 for Dale Earnhardt Jr. when he begins driving for his organization in 2008.

"I'm not sure what their position is or what they want for it," Hendrick said Saturday between practices at Infineon Raceway.

Earnhardt said last week he would like to stay in the No. 8 if a deal can be reached with DEI owner Teresa Earnhardt, who has the rights to the number and his long-time sponsor, Budweiser.

Max Siegel, the president of global operations at DEI, said he will not act until there is a formal proposal.

Hendrick doesn't expect any sort of announcement for at least a few weeks.

"Honestly, we're leaving everything open," he said. "It's just so early. If you say you're going to do something and you really think you are, six weeks from now we might change our mind again.

"We're working through our sponsors and everything."

Also,

After new deal with Sony, Budweiser sponsorship still in limbo for Jr.
