Actually it did--that's why the ending was shot again. The ASMB was megaglomped with angry threads from viewers. Sure, there was the odd "Oh, just get over it" thread or post, but still--this was important to people. Eureka Seven was about a 1yr investment for some people--you can't blame them for wanting to see it through the right way.

One thing I've appreciated from watching the earlier episodes was the brilliant job Johnny Bosch did with this role! Compare Episode 1 Renton with Episode 50 Renton -- while they talk alike, they sound like two different characters which I think is what the creators wanted to do--to show how he matured over the last year.

I was talking about the April Fools prank, not Eureka 7.

Ah. Well in that case, I withdraw my previous statement, your honor.

Oh yeah, congrats on hitting the 1K mark!

Yeah, the Ep.1 Renton "Sucked."

5 cool points for whoever understands why that's funny.

Because it almost echo's Naota's outlook on FLCL's premiere episode?

Speaking of that episode--I think Renton broke the anime record for using the word "Sucks" in a single episode. And it's worth noting that after this episode, he never uses it again!

Its not meant to be funny or even to mirror Naota's attitude either..

the purpose of this episode was really to show what a brat Renton is...and if you continue to watch the series like many fans of Eureka have, you wil lnotice a HUGE change in this attitude, no longer does Renton think like that..he changed, he matured...and that, my friends is one of the reasosn why I think is why Eureka 7 is cool.

Okay, I'll accept the fact that it's not ment to echo Naota, BUT...it was funny! Even the Japanese V/A's thought it was funny! Nobody except for the original creators know for a fact whether or not it was ment to be funny. Following your logic, the episode when Renton runs that errand with the ramen wasn't ment to be funny.

..the purpose of this episode was really to show what a brat Renton is...

I disagree with you there. He was immature, there's no doubt about that, but it's a bit cruel to classify Renton as being a brat. The "Sucks" monologue, IMHO, reflects how fed up he was with his current situation]

I never said the episode was funny.

I said saying it "sucked" was funny and you even agreed yourself.

Yeah, but for a whole YEAR? I mean (witty retort edited for very obvious reasons)

Okay, THAT makes sense to me. Everything about Grandpa and the kids' attitude suggested that they hadn't seen Renton or Eureka for a year, which is why I just couldn't swallow Socks' theory. I think the thing that tripped me up was that the "One Year Later" message came up AFTER we saw the two of them descend to the planet and turn into light (which, to be honest, sort of looks like Team Rocket "blasting off again"). With things ordered that way, I just assumed that they'd made it all the way back BEFORE the time jump. If I remove that assumption, everything falls, more or less, into place. Thanks!

oooh!! well it's been since it first began since I saw that epeisode...and I think maybe I wasn't using the right terminology... I guess I should have used Immature...rather than brat.. ^^; My bad

and yeah it WAS funny... I agree with you there Tom, but that's not WHY it's in that episode...^^; It's to show a contrast...

Poor Renton just got NO love in that premiere episode (Literally).

His "room" is not only trashed, but the girl of his dreams then proceeds to set the remains of said room on fire AND...he burned his Clies!

ah i watched the last episode and loved the song at the ending though the ending makes it seem like they can add more to the series later.

I know I'm probably going to be told to read the entire thread, but can anyone tell me what this series is about and whether or not someone can write a review on it? I mean, is it a complete series?

Yep, it's a completed series, but it's a complex series--VERY Complex. Someone asked me about writing an E7 review, but I would have to pass on that, at least until I finish collecting my DVD's. The best thing I can do is refer you to Wikipedia. They have some great articles on E7--I even printed out the whole article from my computer printer at work. Why? Because I could!

It does take some dedication to get through that middle stretch, especially given how much better the beginning and ending portions are.

Update guys: Best Buy went up on their Eureka Seven DVD's after volume 4. They're now $19.99 before tax instead of $18 AFTER tax! That's just evil!
