So, what do you like about COWBOY BEBOP?

Postby Sheol777 » Mon May 07, 2007 5:57 pm

Hey kids, I have been watching Cowboy Bebop once again and have recalled what made this such a fantastic series on so many levels.

My question posed to you is simple.....give me ONE thing you really like about Bebop. Be it an episode, character, plotline, whatever.

I know narrowing it down is hard but please, just one thing per post. Feel free to post multiple times though).

I'll start:

The episode "PIERROT LE FOU" was magnificant. If you are familiar with Bebop and then watch this episode, it really feels like a different anime then the rest of the series. In it Tongpu the Mad Pierrot confronts Spike on several occasions. He is a floating, bloated man wearing a suit with an arsonal to put the army to shame. It is a very moody episode that kinda takes a weird turn in the series. The childish, playful Tongpu really makes a great antagonist for Spike.

I've only seen three episodes of Bebop (possibly four) in my life, and I greatly prefer Samurai Champloo, but of what I've seen, the show has some great villains; Udai Taxim, Pierrot le Fou...and a couple others that Wikipedia makes out to sound interesting.

When your making a show revolving around bounty hunting, good antagonists are crucial.

I need to see more Bebop, but I really like Jet. The dependable, straight-man characters always appeal to me.

I personally really liked the Alien spoof in "Toys in the Attic". When I saw that episode, I had just seen that movie, so it was pretty funny. XD

The episode with that kid that doesn't age. Spike points his finger into the sky and pretends to shoot.

Loved it.

Can't say I was a fan of that one. Nice lemon twist, but I just couldn't get into it. "Kid never ages, but if you shoot him with this..."

I've always been a big fan of the episode "Ballad of the Fallen Angels", especially because of the sequence where Spike falls from the cathedral window. 8) Thought it was wonderfully done.

Ah yeah, Mona Marshall played that little kid. I remember when they did a replay of Bebop on AS and I got good identifying V/A's, I was freaking out--"THAT'S IZZY FROM DIGIMON!!!"

I love Bebop because it was my first REAL introduction to the world of anime. It had just the right amount of drama, action, comedy and suspense.

IMHO, Bebop broke all the rules about anime set in the future and in space. It didn't make the future seem like this high polished, "Star Trek"-esque deal. It was more down to earth, more realistic . The Bebop wasn't this technologically advance "Enterprise-E"-like starship. The people of the future were still fallable human beings still trying to make a dollar by any means necessary. Bebop is an anime that EVERY beginning anime fan should see.

hmm, its been a while since I've seen Bebop (sobs) so I'm having difficulty remembering what I really liked about it.

I also liked the "Toys in the Attic" episode, as well as "Stray Dog Strut", "Honky Tonk Woman", and the last episode "The Real Folk Blues 2". That's really all I can remember from Bebop that I liked. But Spike was my favorite, with Jet and Ein tying in at second.

Well, I've only ever seen the movie (to see what all the fuss was about) and I personally didn't like it... Haven't seen any of the tv eps, nor does it really appeal to me, which is why I'm still trying to figure out just WHAT made it such a huge hit? I'm still guessing that at the time on CN it was one of the few anime for "bigger kids", for those who haven't experienced the wide-world of anime... *shrugs* ^^

"Toys in the Attic" is a great episode as well. Not as much dialogue, but it isn't needed, good mood established in it....and it is the only episode to hint at anything "alien".

Yeah, I don't want to be cliche, but Spike is the best character of the show. He has a lot of moments like that.

The fight was indeed great, but as much as I like Spike the episodes that deal with his past are not the best offerings from the series.

Has to be one of my top three.

I liked the movie....but the series was better. Please do not judge the series by the movie. The thing about Bebop is that is is a gathering of great characters thrown into one big mess. Many episodes have different feels about them for example.

Comedy:
"Mushroom Samba"
"Stray Dog Strut"

Drama:
"Ballad of Fallen Angels"
"Ganymede Elegy"

Action:
"Toys in the Attic"
"Pierrot le Fou"

This list is only a feel of said episodes, granted all the episodes have a mix of all these elements. If you really liked Samurai Champloo. You can see that Watanabe was ironing out his form and style while on Cowboy Bebop.

I think what I dig the most about Bebop is...everything!!!

The show has such a cultural blending vibe of "coolness" about it that it's hard to find many who dislike it.

what do i like about cowboy bebop? like ichigo_89 already said, i like everything about the series! the awesome and memorable characters. the sweet jazz music that makes bebop so famous. the wickedly random and episodic episodes. the cool spin-off movie. and even the jaw-dropping ending.
bebop is a classic and it's going to stay that way for some time...

Wow, so much too chose from...

In the end, I think my favorite aspect of Bebop isn't a specific character or episode or anything like that. My favorite part is the general emphasis on creating solid, compact, single episodes. I feel like too many anime get hung up on the big picture and forget that they're supposed to be telling a series of individual stories, not just one big one. Bebop's episodes aren't just links in a chain. They all have their own beginnings, middles, and ends, their own set ups and climaxes, even their own distinct genres. Granted, this aspect alone wouldn't have been any good without the strength of the writing and the high production quality, but I still feel like it's what focused all the good aspects and made the show GREAT.
