Catgirls?

Postby Aleolus » Tue Apr 10, 2007 2:11 pm

what is everyone's take on catgirls? They are somewhat prevalent in anime nowadays, and I'm wondering what everyones viewpoint on them is, from a Christian point of view.

A Christian view of cat girls? I... have yet to have heard from anyone who finds them offensive in any sort of way. Me likes cause I heart kitties^^ Too cute! BUT the only negative feedback I can give, is when cat girls is used in a negative way, which can be done with bunny girls or anything to the like, in a provocative manner (since cat girls can sometimes be put in the "genre" of maid girls, school girls, etc etc etc. It's all how one views it/how it's made to be viewed...)
...so yeah, hope you get what I mean by this ramble^^

Cat people aren't really in that many anime.

There's only a handful of anime that have an actual cat boy or girl in them that aren't hentai or fanservice anime.

I can't even name 6 and I've searched sooo many times. XD

There are definitely a large amount of catgirl/boy fans out there, though.

Now that that's out of the way, cat girls and boys are fine in my book (see avatar XD). I can't imagine what exactly a Christian standpoint could possibly find wrong with them.
had enough.

A catgirl alone isn't really an issue, methinks. It's more of how the character would be used that might be a problem. To me, catgirls go under fantasy creatures, such as centaurs or mermaids.

I don't really see anything wrong inherently with the idea. I may be repeating what's already been said, but it's all in how the idea is used.

Um, furry ears are evil? Because you know old guys with ear fuzz also end up being evil, so it's furry ears that are the mark of the beast!

Seriously, people like seeing cute girls and cats. Put them together and you've got catgirls. It's not really any different than the idea of putting fruit in yogurt. (In fact, I believe that one day we will be able to buy catgirls in the grocery stores like other dairy products. But I digress. The silliness of the topic has led me to expand this post.)

I mean, c'mon. We're talking about cartoon girls with cat ears and maybe whiskers or a tail or whatever. The spiritual implications are similar in magnitude to those of the above-mentioned yogurt.

Nothing morally wrong with them, but I prefer my female companionship minus any animal protrusions. Never understood what all the fuss over them was, both those for and against. DNA splicing?

Genesis 3:25-27
"And also from the garden did the Lord banish the catgirls, for they were sinful, and He did instruct the cheribum east of Eden to poke them with their flaming swords."

There ya go. All jesting aside, Kaligraphic hit the nail on the head, in my opinion.

I found a very interesting site on the origin of catgirls. http://www.catgirls.org.uk/mythology/myth.html.

Anyway, as for anime that have catgirls or the like in them, right off the top of my head, there's Outlaw Star (Aisha Clanclan), All Purpose Cultural Catgirl Nuku Nuku (commonly just called "Nuku Nuku), and a few others I can't think of at the moment.

Totally. I think fruit and yogurt put together is rather cute, myself.

I agree. Though there are instances where catgirls (or anime girls in general) that just make my cry out "NO THAT IS NOT HOW THINGS ACTUALLY WORK!"

In episode 8 of Shrine of the Morning Mist the cat that has been lurking around shapeshifts into a girl.So you could say she's a literal Catgirl!

I think that Tokyo Mew Mews is probably the most well known series with catgirls in it just as Sailor Moon is the most well known Magic Girl series.

As far as it goes it's just a genre like any other anime genre.

I disagree with the Tokyo Mew Mew statement. As far as I'm concerned, although it went mainstream here in North America (among other places) it's still fairly new compared to more well-known series, like Escaflowne and Merle, who probably more would heard of (among other older anime from the 90's).
