I am telling you..E7 and FLCL do not have as much in common as you think!!

And Eureka is NOTHING like Haruko! It's called Character development!! D:

Does Haruko have green jewels growing out of her arms?!

Does Haruko get...
WINGS?!
NO! she doesn't.

Does Haruko watch over three adorable kiddos? Nope?
Does she drive a very dangerous LFO? Nope she gets to ride a stinking vespa!

Is Eureka as coy as Haruko, or as egotistcal, not on her own she isn't! She is a lot nicer than Haruko..
~~~
Naota is a whiney brat, Renton is a Whiney brat, but Renton grows up and actually takes on a responsibility that matters. All Naota does is rely on a stinking robot that grows out of his head and bashes people.
As I said earlier, I want to watch an anime that i know I can understand without having to listen to the director tells us what it means.
Also, E7 has lots of pop culture references! ^_^ More than FLCL. Better ones than FLCL!
Okay, before I get started, I just want to say that I don't mean to sound mean or condensending, and I apologize in advance. This is just my own two cents. If you don't like my two cents, you can redeem the afrementined cents at the arcade for one free game of Dance Dance Revolution. That being said...
:rant: Oh come on! You're looking at the physical aspects to prove your point! It goes beyond that. Think about the plot and the story idea. A weird girl comes along and turns a passifist's (SP?) world upside down. I'm not saying that she's a carbon copy of Haruko, I'm just saying that the two share quite a few attributes. And besides, Eureka isn't all goodness and light, either. She has a gruesome past too.
Besides, anyone can ride/pilot a mecha...it's been done too many times. It was refreshing to see someting UNIQUE flying through the air.
To that effect, all Renton does is follow behind Eureka like a lovesick puppy in HER LFO and takes abuse from her kids. Also, Naota does mature in the last episode! He changes and evoloves a lot in those six episodes. The symbol of this is the middle school uniform he and his friends wear during the last scene.
Well, forgive me, but I love anime that lets me think about what I'm watching instead of having it spelled out for me word for word.
Umm...this just builds on my case that the two are alike. Eureka Seven's refrences, to me, are a little more vauge than the ones in FLCL--maybe YOU hear the names "Gidget" and "Moondoggie" and instantly think "60's Surfer Movie", but it took a little time for me to lock onto. Now, references to things like South Park and Evangelion--these things I understand.
Not that I'm all, "These two are the same anime!" but uh... I was totally able to decipher that show without the help of the director's commentary. In fact, until you mentioned it I wasn't actually aware there was one. o.o It takes more than one viewing to be sure (I've had to watch it straight through like six times, eheheh), but you can figure it out on your own.
FLCL is also chock full of them. They're just not accessible to the american audience because they're japanese popculture references. I've had to have several of them pointed out to me. The only one I caught on my own was the very obvious Lupin thing in... what was it, like the fifth episode? Fourth or fifth. Man, it's been so long. Point is, it has tons of them. Just not any that match our culture.
Oh, no you don't! I'm not going to be seen as being the angry guy who disagreed with the little girl. I was just stating a point. You know I use this same size font for all my posts. I'm not angry at all. I was just disagreeing with YOU.
BTW, was it necessary to completely bash FLCL? I didn't say one negative thing against E7, (In fact, I'm collecting the DVD's).
Eureka 7 unfortunately suffers from having a weak first quarter...(about 20 episodes or so). No doubt that drove lots of people away, and you can't really blame them--20 episodes really is too long...but, it's a shame since the series really does get good. o.o I'm really impressed with how much it's improved---and the FLCL similarities become less glaring, aside from some GAINAX-esque directing here and there---but they did actually work on the show, so it's understandable.
I still have a few more E7 episodes left to watch, but it's become incredibly compelling... It's really a shame that the first twenty episodes are so...blah. o.o
But yeah--the first episode does have one too many FLCL similarites. ^ ^;;
Sorry Khaki... I was kidding about your font.
anyways I wasn't really Bashing FLCL..it's not my favorite anime, true but I don't exactly hate it. I guess I don't remember the earlier episodes enough to see the similarities.. I know the ending episodes set E7 and FLCL FAR apart from each other, that's all.
Aren't they both from Gainax?This in and of itself would explain the similarities.
No, no. I'm sorry. I get that way whenever I'm involved in a good debate. You should see me in person when I'm debating with someone else. :thumb:
Anyway, back on subject--
I think we did bring that up a few pages back, but yes, that would generally explain the similarities between the two.
Gainax also did Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi,so you can say that Sasshi
is kinda like Renton and Naota as well.Though admittedly Abenobashi is more of a spoof.
