Sweet, I finally have the best 2D FF "to go."
While I enjoy 7-10 more this is a dang good FF game and the GBA port is nicely done.
The art in the booklet (especially for a certain character) looks like a fanart drawing, but no complaints here.
I might actually beat it this playthrough. =D
Now all they need is Chrono Trigger for the GBA and Ill be one happy boy.

Fanart? Is it Amano's art, like this here:
That's not fanart. Amano has worked on the Final Fantasy art since the beginning, and still works on the Logos for every game. It may not be a style you like, but it's intricate, and is what makes FF6 look like it does. If anything, the sprites are more like "fanart" than the beautiful art he did for the game. His magitech armor designs were so much better than what ended up in the game...

I've never been a big fan of Amano's art, though I will say that he's talented. I prefer character designs to be more clean-cut, and his work is usually very sketchy. Plus, the way he does eyes creeps me out (and it's not that they're small and not anime-esque. It's cause everyone looks like...evil or something XD). XD He's a talented artist, just not one I'm partial to.

I tend to somewhat dislike his art because even IF it is the basis for the actual game designs.
He IS talented as an artist, but I think he makes everyone look too feminine.
Poor Zidane couldn't have passed for a dude if he tried. Don't even get me started on Kuja.
Allthough I really did his Steiner designs. He actually made Steiner look cool.

Well, I would be in favor of an FFVII remake. But, please, let the spin-offs die.
Ditto. Actually, in all truth, I think I'd like to see FFVII remade for something like the DS. The character designs could be done similar to how they did the FFIII remake, since the game originally made them like that. The environments were mostly stills anyways, so it could work.
And yes, please do let the spin-offs die.
And yeah, his art was fairly impressive, though I kinda prefer Steiner as a cantankerous old coot to the hard-edged warrior Amano seemed to envision him as.

A friend of a friend lent me The Art of Final Fantasy IX because it was my first and favorite game in the series. The character pages were double-sided, so you could see how Amano sketched them on one, and how they were ultimately portrayed on the other.
That said, yes, Zidane could easily pass for Kuja's brother (...) based off Amano's sketchings alone.

By the way, did you know that the Amano art for Sabin has him with a beard and moustache?
But when they tried to put that in the game sprites the cartridge exploded from sheer manliness.

Wait, what? The operetic one makes you cry? I find that voice with high vibrato to be irritating beyond tolerance... To each his own, though. I shouldn't really knock you for your tastes. If you mean the one sans lyrics at the end of the PS1 version, though, I'll have to agree... If anything would make you cry out for an FF6 remake on PS2 or next gen, that would be it... Honestly... Final Fantasy 6 is screaming for a remake. Maybe I'll fund it with my multiple billions someday.

Okay, so in one week I blew past where I was stuck on when I played through the Anthology version.
I was 13 last time I attempted FF6 and I didn't put much time into leveling up but this is ridiculous. Either this game is extremely easy compared to the SNES version (or maybe the PS1 port was harder) or I've just gotten a lot better at RPGs.
I've defeated over 6 bosses in one hit. "Stone" with Gau did 3500 dmg. WHEN I FIRST GOT HIM thus causing to beat Phantom Train, Ultros, and all of the Vector bosses in one hit. Oh, and I beat the boss I was stuck on before in one hit as well. I forget its name but it was during an airship battles and it shot missles and stuff.
I hope that Kefka isn't the only hard boss because if he is, I'm cranking up Anthology for a CHALLENGE.

1. You don't get Gau until after the Phantom Train.
2. Number 024 in the Magitek Research Facility in Vector is level 24. Number 128, the boss immediately after, is level 23.
Now, Stone only does 7x damage if the target is the same level as the caster. Since characters cannot decrease in level, only increase, and the first boss is a higher level than the second, it would be impossible for Gau to do 7x damage with Stone on both bosses.
Tom, your tall tales may impress noobs who know nothing about the games you talk about. But Final Fantasy is my passion, having played every single one multiple times (except II and III). Ryan can back me up on these statements. You could not have done them. You don't have to lie to try and impress us.
