Well, that certainly covered the issue. In depth. I think all of us here are familiar with Shonen Jump, but if anyone isn't they are now. I'd have a few things to say, and I also want to partially answer a question of yours.

Yoh and Anna, while engaged (at the age of 14!) and living in the same house, don't sleep together or do anything remotely sensual - in fact, they act more like arguative brother and sister.

That isn't strictly true, but will be for some time. They do have a kid far later, though, and I'm pretty sure while unmarried.

Meanwhile, the spirit issue has been quite overdiscussed. Stay off it (This is a warning, not a reprimand).

One of the male characters both dresses and looks like a girl, but does nothing openly homosexual besides the aforementioned cross-dressing.

Hey now. Haku is cool. Yes, he looks female, but with Masashi's style doesn't really cross dress. But having read the end of the Land of Waves saga, I'm not going to let anyone knock Haku. Or Zabuza.

Now about Yu Yu Hakusho: I'm relatively ambivalent about it. The art style is acceptable, and the fight scenes likewise. I'll be happier when fights stop being won by random chance (and now that Kurama and Hiei are back). Meanwhile, it isn't the most intelligent of manga, which slowly but surely gets to me.

I'd still call myself a fan, though. Let's not discuss the issue too much here, there are other threads for that.

Okay. My posts was based only on the issues that I've read so far, so I don't know what happens in the future and the only animes I've watched from SJ are Dragonball Z, Yu-Gi-Oh! and YuYu Hakusho. Didn't mean to offend anyone - I call it as I see it.

I like it when people point out all the good and ALL the bad. and with Hikaru no go, Sai: There's a difference between a guy looking like a girl and actually being a sicko( besides there's only so much you can do with your own Physical apperaence, but the fan doesnt help. and the artist can draw like its nobodies business... he rivles Nabuhiro watsuki in art)

I agree. I love Hikaru no Go's art. And I never said Sai was a sicko. I just thought it was a little weird and actually quite funny because I was so convinced that he was a girl until I realized that Hikaru kept referring to him as a "he". It actually adds a lot more humor to the series to watch Sai's reactions to everthing. The reasons I pointed out the way Haku and Sai dress and look is because you never know whether some people might take offense or not. I'm not bothered by them, but still it can't hurt to tell people about them, and perhaps prevent them from being as confused as I was at the beginning of Hikaru.

Does anyone else other than me think that the level of advertising for the graphic novels in the magazine is a bit on the rediculous side.
I understand their insane marketing somewhat given the hugely popular titles in the magazine but do we really need to see that many advertisements around the edges of each manga?

Anyway, three other manga have been licensed by Viz and are going to be published under the Shonen Jump name although they are not going to actually be in the magazine(like Kenshin, Dragonball, and Saint Seiya). They are Kinnikumon: Second Generation aka Ultimate Muscle, The Prince of Tennis, and Bleach.

I'm looking forward to seeing The Prince of Tennis which will be previewed in the magazine in the May issue. I'm not really a big sports fan but I have heard some good things about this title.

YES. Thank you for bringing this up. I tried to count once, but quickly decided it wasn't accomplishing much. I had over 70 margin ads.

While I do find them annoying, a few are moderately humorous. Also, I like the fact that they really don't take themselves very seriously, to the point of making fun of their numerous ads in the margins.

I haven't really been reading that much of the YuYu Hakusho manga, because I was waiting for them to bring Hiei and Kurama back into the story.(I know that's sad, but it's the truth. lol)

I read some scanlations of it a while back, and I really enjoyed it. It made me wanna play tennis. lol The only thing I dislike about it is it's huge yaoi fan following. I hate that about Hikaru no Go too. It makes it kinda unpleasant when looking for good fanfiction.

I'm kinda interested in Bleach too, but I don't know a lot about it.

I suppose I must state as well that the yaoi-following of Naruto is absolutely huge. And especially creative, which in this case isn't a good thing. Almost enough to make me want to write fanfiction involving romance, something I'm capable of but don't enjoy greatly.

Any bookstore chain like Barnes & Nobles should carry it. If you're lucky, you might find an issue in a grocery store although I've only seen that a few times.
And then there is the option of subscribing to the magazine or ordering issues of the internet at http://www.shonenjump.com.

Yeah, if you really like the mag. I definitely suggest subscribing. It's so much cheaper in the long run. Saving $ = The margin ads don't bother me too much, and some of them are actually kinda funny. I really like it when they print color pages too, plus I like the fact that the pages are bigger than in the graphic novels. So much easier to read. lol

I mostly agree with UC. I think they're funny! I give up being annoyed, because there's not much I can do to change it. I just sit back and enjoy the corny comments. My favorite is, "We also 'Cell' graphic novels! Ha ha...hmm."

Yu-Gi-Oh isn't the best manga. It's kind of weird. I love the anime, though! (Even with its redundancy from its idiot dubbers.)

Another comment. They show previous issues of the mangas online. They also sell previous issues of SJ. What are they, stupid? Aren't they losing all kinds of money from people who would just read it online after it comes out?!

I can't wait untill Naruto comes out in the US (surely it will)!! I'm so impatient!! I will have to wait even longer for the English Naruto videogames (if they even come out here)! From what I've seen, they look really cool!! GRRRR!

About the online things: they show only one issue, and it has been the same issue for months. I doubt that it will ever change. So there's no chance of just being patient and waiting for the next one to come out.

Well, if you subscribe to the magazine, buying the Graphic Novels are fairly pointless. But, some people do just choose to buy the Graphic Novels as they come out if they are not interested in subscribing. They have a few advantages over the SJ magazine. They take up less space for one thing and can be kept on a bookshelf.
Plus, some of the Graphic Novel series aren't running in the magazine(the first Dragonball, Kenshin, Saint Seiya and coming out soon are Ultimate Muscle, Prince of Tennis, and Bleach).

Marketing Shonen Jump titles seems to be Viz's big thing currently.

Also they do sell a few graphic novels of mangas that they don't publish in their magazine (like Rurouni Kenshin), and if you missed a bunch of previous episodes but don't want to buy 5 issues of the magazines, you can get a bunch of the chapters you missed crammed into one graphic novel. That's what I did with One Piece. So I don't think they're entirely pointless. Plus, I suppose it does make a lot of money, which we all know makes Viz very happy.

Wow, in the manga, they really get into the romance between Yugi and Tea (and Yami sort of). Much more than in the anime. I'm not sure I like that, though. I'm not really the romance type.
