My parents think it's all just a stupid violent cartoon. I try to tell them otherwise but i'm limited to the shows are okay for my 9 yr old sister to watch.

What shows? A few Miyazaki movies I can imagine.

Being one of the few non christians on this website..Not sure if this is a redundant opinion.

But my parents originally thought, especially my mom, it was all pornography or childs stuff. this may have been tempered by my gatewar anime/manga being fan-service heavy love-hina..I think their opinion has somewhat softened as I moved onto other things. My dad has a neutral opinion and my mom has a "My son is interested in all things international and it just so happens anime is one of them" *shrug*

I'd never expect anime/manga under the christmas tree however xD

Love Hina is good. I've seen the first 7 and a half episodes.

Miyazaki movies are ok. I have to be careful who's in the house if I watch Princess Mononoki(sp?). I can only watch shows that have virtually no curseing and little violence, though naruto is alright.

lol just the other day me and my brothers were watching friday night animes (inuyasha, naruto, bleach, full metal alchemist, eureka 7) and my mom was sitting there and we thought "ok..i guess we'll be able to watch it all this time without one of them interrupting or turning the channel" lol than in the middle of one of the shows my mom gives us this digusted look and takes the remote and turns the channel saying "why are you guys watching this stuff. it's only drawings, why don't you watch real people?" and turns it to wheel of fortune or something. haha...and i thought my older sisters were bad... :P even though we ALL used to watch it a few years ago. oh well...that is the only time i ever get to watch any of it though but they all do "own" the t.v. 24/7 and what we watch. it's hard when you have 11 ppl in ur family and everyone likes different things.

My parents have absolutely no problem with it. Back when I first got into the anime fix they'd both sit down and watch Pokemon with me (not to mention my dad would tease me for watching Sailor Moon since they were technically naked during their transformations), but neither of them really spazzed out. They didn't think I was weird for watching cartoons and they were highly aware not all anime was perverted or mindless violence. Heck, not only did both of them watch Fruits Basket with me (I think they only missed three or so episodes), but my mom especially likes Inu Yasha and Fullmetal Alchemist. So...ya. No problems there. I guess I was really blessed with understanding parents. XD

Mom is ok about it, but she can't seem to remember the japanese names. She isn't really interested, but doesn't give me a hard time about it at all.

Dad isn't crazy about it, but he will watch it with me and my sibs when he gets home from work. He says he likes seeing the japanese culture. So it's cool that we can talk about it to him.

My parents arn't that strict about what anime they let me watch. They don't like the spiritual stuff, which is fine with me. I was really blessed with understanding parents.

Aww, that's really sad. :( You should show her some Miyazaki movies like "Castle in the Sky", or "Whisper of the Heart" or something; those are two anime that are about as clean as they come. XD

Boo, that stinks about parents not understanding what anime is.

I *thought* my parents would have that problem with anime (since the Inuyasha dub says "demon" at least once every five minutes), so when it finally did come around to them about three years ago, I had to explain pretty thoroughly that anime is not a satanic institution.

And ever since then, they've been pretty cool with it all. My dad even watches it on his own sometimes, then calls me and asks if I've seen it. He likes the more monster-y horror animes, though, and I like the shonen magical fantasy ones, so we don't usually watch the same series.

My mom is more or less indifferent. She reads my webcomic, and has seen a few Miyazaki movies with me, but mostly doesn't care that much about the genre.

And my little brother is like, in love with it. But he's only allowed to watch it when I'm home because some of it is above his age level (he's 8)

I hope you're mom will understand soon, Smile! Just explain to her what anime and manga are, or better yet, leave subtle hints like some of the various christian webcomics laying around the internets open in your browser, or some kind of art that shows Christian values.

Parents often can be a lot more understanding if you're willing to talk to them ;)

My mom doesn't really mind me watching it. In fact, she likes Rurouni Kenshin and most Miyazaki films. She used to hate it, but when she started to watch some of them, like Kenshin and Nausicaa she started to like it. She's still very careful about it, though.

They think it's a waste of time, basically. They are totally uninterested in even giving it a chance. Not even Miyazaki - but they are that way about a lot of tv and movies and such anyway. Not a big deal.

My parents don't really care about it. Though they actually encourage me to try and get a job with it and try and make good clean anime. They are understanding of both sides of anime...The light and dark sides. Anyway they are understanding and encourage me to do something with what I love but they don't really care to watch it either. As far as the rest of my family they are mostly indifferent about it...There are a few series of anime and manga that each family member enjoys...But the only one who shares my love of anime is my oldest brother.

I did get my mom to read Yotsuba&! and she enjoyed it.

My mom only cares if I'm supposed to be doing something else when she see's me watching something. She thinks it's a little weird but she doesn't care, mainly 'cause she admits watching HGTV shows on organizing is sort of weird.

My dad won't watch an episode or anything (unless I asked him to for some reason), but he sees it as just another medium of entertainment. He went to see "Spirited Away" in theaters. Once he learned that Bleach was different then Pokémon, he didn't really care about me watching it.

It depends what anime.

My parents arn't intrested so I let them be(If they found out the darker side of anime. I'm screwed). One time I watched FMA And I think my Mum was humming Ready Steady Go (cause she heard it more than once). I think my mum likes my drawings and she knows it looks like Anime.

My mom is fine with my anime liking, but my jrock liking, a whole different story, she is very afraid of dir en grey and almost didn't let me go to their concert. also she was afraid anime might make me less of a christian and said I would become suicidal like all the japanese people. Do not worry for now after watching 5 miyazaki movies, which she loves, now she is fine with my anime watching.

My parents have no problem with it. Anime has been active in our family since the days of Doraemon and Sailor Moon. XD

{edit} Of course, it's still seen as just a thing to watch during rare freetimes.

My parents have gone from thinking it's satanic to indulging my interest in it/no longer mocking or punishing me when I read/watch it. But all of them scoff at the idea of watching it, especially my sister, which is sad because she's pretty cool and would love FLCL if she could get over it being anime.

my parents dont know too much about it but from what they do know they dont like. i once heard them say anime was "the nasty cartoons for perverted ppl" ...of course that was back when i was like 10 and they stumbled upon some hentai somewhere.anyways their opinions today isnt much better. a week ago or so they also stumbled upon one of my fruba discs. apparently i forgot to take it out of the dvd player and also forgot to set if back to the main menu. so when they went to put a dvd in they ended up opening that. and wouldnt you know it it was right at a time where kyo was mad and was cussing up a storm. but im actually lucky cause they could have seen worse on that dvd. had they watched it any longer it would have went to kyo and haru's fight. but ya i dont think they like anime so i just keep mine where they dont look at it and everything is ok.

My mom was really skeptical about it at first, thanks to a Suncoast employee mixing up the word "manga" with something else, and shorty afterwards I told her that a lot of anime was based off of manga. :shady: She didn't believe me at first when I told her manga was the term for Japanese comics, however, now she's fine with it after watching some Ghibli films and a bit of Haibane Renmei.
As for my dad, he doesn't really like it or dislike it. To him it's just sort of there. XD He enjoyed the music in Makoto Shinkai's films, though.

My mom personally thinks that all of it is garbage (only the 18+ stuff is total garbage... with the only other exception being the later works from Studio Gainax), but my dad is okay with anime... as long as he has a clear understanding of what's in the anime I'm watching, which means I have to send him various reviews from various sources before he can even consider letting me watch anything! Pretty cool, eh?

My parents pretty much think its stupid/dumb. Neither of them like it or understand it. Nor do they understand why I, and my brother, like it so much. Though my Dad has sat down and laughed at some anime with us. He normally just shakes his head and walks on out of the room, though. They trust me to have good judgment when watching it. My mom asks to see it sometimes though. Just to be sure...

My parents as geeky as I am in their own ways, so anime has never had trouble finding acceptance in our household. In fact, I blame my Mom for getting me hooked on anime in the first place, since she's the one who checked out all those Superbook and Flying House videos when I was little. Neither of them really watch much by their own choice, but Studio Ghibli movies always go over well on movie nights. Oh, and my Dad really likes Kill Bill, and that's anime for a few minutes, right?

When I was younger, I'd throw Anime parties at my house. Initially they were in the living room where the only VCR was. Mom and Dad would frequently MST3K the shows we were trying to take seriously. They hate the stuff.

That Christmas for the sanity of all parties involved, they gave me a VCR. I love my parents...

My mom: she's cool with it and listens when i tell her about it.....but, she doesn't understand it at all.....I've tried watching stuff with her and she was asking all these questions that someone who had never seen anime probably wouldn't understand....but she did somewhat like Fruba

My dad: He actually started me liking anime. Him and I used to watch those Saturday morning cartoons (they used to have a bunch of anime on back then) and him and I used to watch Pokemon (woo hoo....) after that I sorta watched different stuff and got interested in it so he's really cool with it too (and I only trust him to ever buy it for birthdays and such)

So...both my parents are cool about it ^-^
