So has anyone seen the final volume (#4) of Haibane Renmei besides me? Oh man, I didn't expect the ending to be the way it ended at all. The last episode is so tense and charged - Wow. Anyone?

He wants them to learn to walk and must therefore take away His hand; and if only the will to walk is really there, He is pleased even with their stumbles.

Healing hands of God have mercy on our unclean souls
once again. Jesus Christ, Light of the World, burning
bright within our hearts forever. Freedom means love
without condition, without beginning or an end. Here's
my heart, let it be forever Yours, only You can make
every new day seem so new.

Nail pierced hands they run with blood
A splitting brow forced by the thorns
His face is writhing with the pain yet it's comforting to me

Daniel, you are becoming even more cool in my book. Haibane Renmei is one of favorites if not the top. I haven't watched it in Japanese, so I don't know how they compare, but the whole series blew me away. I love the aspects of salvation included, but syncretism seems to about in it. Anyway, if you ever get the chance, watch the english version.

NOTE: I'm rambling because I'm about to fall off the chair from sleep deprivation. My apologies in advance.
