My uncle remembers when my cousin worked at Sam Goody. He made almost as much as he spent.

That's the main reason why I have never put in an application for any store that sells DVDs.

THe problem i'm haven with Anime DVD's latly is.... Well Still essentally the price, But really it's more that although i'm paying the same price as i've pretty much always have... They now wanna spread 24-26 episodes on 7-8 volumes.
That is really annoying the heck outta me. The price hasn't lowered, the amount of episodes on the DVD has, so now your paying a lot more.

Now I don't approve of buying bootlegs or fansubs etc. nor do I even actually approve of downloading the anime, so don't misunderstand me. I don't do that stuff. (unless it never comes to the states.... which I will be considering doing on Sailor stars really soon)

High Pitched, Japanese Voice Actresses...duh...comon guys.

Haven't any of you seen the Japanese Version of Pokemon, 5 minutes of that and all of a sudden you hear a ringing in your ears. The Japanese Voice Actresses have weapons of mass destruction in their vocal cords. HIGH PITCHED weapons i say. After 2 episodes you'll be looking for the phone for a week, then realize... ... ... .... .... .... ... OMG.... .... it was never ringing in the first place.

Have you heard them?!?!? It's awefull, it makes the 3 chihuahua's in the apartment next-door crazy. Also Cats from all around the neighborhood can be heard moaning and meowing in pain.

Don't think anyone beside you have any problem with it (well, this ain't for sure then :p). Sure Japanese voices is often a little more high-pitched than the English, but it's not like it's bad as you say. When you have gotten a little used to it, it's not a problem, you don't notice it anymore. Sounds much better than the English vocies , I think (except some that have some voices that is acctually painful to hear :p)

Well, I think they could drop the dubbing. Would love it, as then I would acctually be able to buy some of it :p.
Just come to think of something. Series like Naruto and One Piece, which are pretty long, hope they don't have the normal anime price on them. Think about it, gotta be a little expensive :\

Interesting. I don't think that I ever really considered it. I always thought it was because it sold well so they could afford to charge more.

From what I'm seeing, the price of SOME anime DVD's are going down a little. Not by much, though. But something is better than nothing!

Suncoast had a big sale on anime before Christmas. I think they're still marked down.

Cheap Anime...at Suncoast?

*Mind shatters.*

Thread necromancy aside, I'm a little relieved to know that, yes, there is a reason they sell DVDs at such high prices. These days I've taken to ordering Anime off Amazon, which tends to be cheaper. Hopefully, we'll eventually have a time where the medium can afford to sell at cheaper rates. And with better extras. Tired of shelling out so much cash for just bare-bones episodes. Give me some director's commentary!

Finally! Someone who thinks like I do! I love the commentary tracks on DVD's! They're very informative and always funny! Also, I would love to see more episodes on DVD's for the cost! I REFUSE to spend $29 for a DVD with only 3 episodes!

Amen. Four at least, if not five. I've only ever bough volumes with three episodes at discounts, such as "Buy one, get one free" sales.

And one day all with director's commentary. You'll see.

Exactly! I can't watch "Death and Rebirth" or "The End Of Evangelion" without the Directors Commentary tracks!

FLCL dvds are about $30 a pop, and they have two episodes each.

I really want them, but it's FLCL, or an AK47 Spetnaz.

400 FPS > FLCL EP. 3

Don't be suprised if you don't understand a bit of that. ^^^

*blinks* So basically you're saying that the demand curve is shifted to the left compared to normal American DVDs? And that the supply curve is shifted to the left more so? (don't ask...I think I'm gonna have some microeconomics nightmares about anime tonight...)

I've only seen anime DVDs that expensive at Suncoast, normally I find them between $20 and $25. I must say I'm glad I don't ever plan on buying DVDs in Japan. My exchange student two years ago made it sound like the average DVD in Japan was $50, and that only really popular Hollywood titles ever made it down below $30.

I'm not really surprised. If something isn't supported by a relatively high amount of people then the companies who have to pay for all the costs of bringing Anime over to other countries which probably doesn't earn them very much money. Then you can't really expect in-expensive prices.

My feelings towards this? It's unfortunate, definitely. But I don't know of any other alternative to buy Anime? Although, I do know that sometimes importing the film is more inexpensive then actually buying it here. I wonder if that has anything to account for the prices here in America...

It makes me wonder, is Anime still a cult-following? *topic idea comes*
