Anime with High Replayability

Postby Stiletto » Thu Dec 28, 2006 7:43 pm

What anime do you guys feel is worthy enough to watch over and over again, much to the point that it takes a while for you to get bored of?

For me, Gatekeepers, Bottle Fairy, and Aria are shows I think have high-replayability. I know because I've replayed these shows at least twice so far. :)

Well, pretty much all of my favorites. Replay value is a major factor for me in liking a show. I don't believe a series can be truly great if you can finish it and have no desire to see it again. I should qualify that, however, by saying that while I rewatch individal episodes of series fairly frequently, I don't rewatch entire series from start to finish - though I've been considering it lately.

I can pretty much always be content watching Cowboy Bebop, even after the endless Cartoon Network reruns. Same goes for The Big O. I'll second Last Exile. R.O.D. the TV is rather plot-oriented, so individual episodes suffer somewhat when seen out of context, but installments like "Farenheit 451" shine even on their own after repeat viewings.

FLCL, The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya, Azumanga Daioh, and Ichigo Mashimaro... you know, stuff that you can catch new things with every viewing, or stuff that's always entertaining no matter how many times you see it.

Cowboy Bebop and Tactics are the only series that I've found to be highly replayable. :3

Azumanga, and almost any Miyazaki title (including The Cat Returns, although he did not direct it, although it's Ghibli), and also the Sailor Moon R movie. Also, revisiting Digimon eps can be fun too^^

The only ones that come to mind are 1) Good comedy without a major over-arching plot such as Azumanga Daioh and 2) Something that requires multiple watches to fully understand, such as Paranoia Agent, which is also 13 episodes long, so it's not a hassle to re-watch.

Anything "Regular" that's long and has an overarching storyline usually gets only 1 viewing from me.

Definitely Cowboy Bebop. It's so entertaining and amusing. And the music is the most eclectic I've ever heard in anything, including anime. Edward is without a doubt, the funniest character on the show. In fact, I think the show picked up quite a bit right when she joined.

I actually keep track of how many times I watch shows. I don't know why. I rewatch almost everything twice (for three total viewings), but here's a list of the ones I rewatched more than that.

Rumbling Hearts (Kimi ga Nozomu Eien) - 14 times
El Hazard: The Magnificent World - 7 times
I My Me! Strawberry Eggs - 7 times
AIR - 6 times
Please Teacher! - 6 times
Elfen Lied - 5 times
Aishiteruze Baby - 4 times
Crest/Banner of the Stars - 4 times
Fruits Basket - 4 times
Last Exile - 4 times
Martian Successor Nadesico - 4 times
Rozen Maiden - 4 times

This is a somewhat useless list, really. My tastes run very sporadic.
Embraced by a gentle breeze, my heart breaks as I think of you.

For me, it has to be Trigun and Zoids:Chaotic Century. Those two have the stories that you can watch over and over, with the humor, and suspense. Even though you know what will happen, you're still rooting for the good guys like you have no knowledge.

Usually, I'll only watch a number of episodes from a series over and over again, but I do watch entire series again every once in a while. XD

Anyways, I think the following have lots of re-watch value:

Full Moon wo Sagashite--namely, the latter half of the series
Rurouni Kenshin--say yes to the Kyoto Arc! xD
Cowboy Bebop--I pick and choose episodes here, since I only own two DVDs, and I rarely catch it on TV anymore.
Castle in the Sky--yeah, it's a movie, but it's great!
Haibane Renmei--I haven't had the chance to re-watch this yet, but I hear that re-watching it is amaaazing.
Pretear--I love it. XD
Air--If only to see the amazing artwork again. Not to mention the awesome story and characters. XD
Sailor Moon (Classic)--I haven't had the chance to watch it again, but I'd really like to. XD

That's about all I can think of at the moment. XD If there are more, I'll save them for another post, so this one won't turn in to a gargantuan list of titles. XD

Oh, RD, I just started Season 3 of Rurouni Kenshin. It's really good and has a lot of really well dramatic and comedic one shots. However, the arc itself is inferior to the manga, it's still good.

Say yeah, I would say R Kenshin but it's too long to see numerous times for me anyways.

Kkun must have a lot of tree time to see 90 episodes of anime nine times.
That's 810 episodes of 1 series.

Yeah, I also rewatch individual episodes from time to time. It is definitely easier to do this in Bottle Fairy, than say, in any other plot-heavy show as you mentioned.

With DVD's, I also sometimes rewatch entire series/episodes in a different language and find the experience to be just the same as the first run-through.
