heres the point of this thread. What are some games that when you put them into your computer or console you felt like you were playing something really really special and revolutionary. give titles, systems and reasons
Halo (xbox) Wow the fun factor was massive and i'll fight anyone (jk) who doubts it.
Metal Gear Solid 1,2and 3 (ps1 and ps2) Great games great graphics (even the first for its time) and benchmark stealth gameplay.
Splinter Cell (xbox) Improves some stealth elements that MGS inroduced
Prince of persia (xbox, ps2, Gamecube) You can slow down time run on walls what else needs to be said.

Cool idea 
Gunstar Heroes - Sega Genesis
Very wowish. The massive amount of enemies on screen, the stellar boss fights and genius level design, the clever weapon combination system, this game has masterpiece written all over it. It really blew me away when I first played it.
Advance Wars - Gameboy Advance
This really took my by surprise. It remains one of my all time favorite games ever to this day. If you've never played it, stop reading this and go by it right this second. Few games achieve the level of perfection this one does.
Ape Escape - Playstation 1
Seriously, what could be more fun than catching monkeys with a net? Clobbering/outsmarting/sneaking up on said monkeys, using all manner of nifty gadgetery, and then catching them with a net! Ape escape also has a killer control scheme, which makes playing it a blast. Really, it's quite fun, and made me go wow.

Ah, Punchout, where would we be without you? A lot less entertained, that's for sure. As far as I'm concerned Punchout was and is the motherload in pure pick-up-and-play fun. It's just a lot of fun, really, and still makes me go wow. Plus, some of the opponents you fight are sure to generate a few 'wow's.

star ocean second story(the battle system really took me for a loop and hooked me)

What, every game that's ever impressed me??
The first would likely be Super Mario World... It was my first intro to "better graphics"
The second would be Mario 64. It was the first truly 3d camera in a game, and it was incredible when it first came out. That was the last true revolution in game graphics.
Metal Gear Solid... Not only was it beautiful, it was a flipping movie and that was just plain awesome. Man, I love that game... MGS2 and 3 both impressed me pretty well...
I wasn't that impressed with FF7 (you know, with its static camera and mediocre character models) until I watched the one winged angel fight at my friend's house... That remains one of my favorite moments in video gaming... Final Fantasy 8 impressed me with it's beautiful FMVs right from the start, though, as did 10.
Sonic Adventure was my introduction to 128 bit gaming, and I would often stare at the environments in the adventure levels... They were breathtaking at the time. Really, the scope wasn't beaten until I played FFX... And more recently, Shadow of the Colossus blew that out of the water.
Silent Hill 3... I haven't seen a game that has human characters that look as good as they do in SH3... Wow... Heather is actually hot. Like, in a realistic way, not that stylized way that Final Fantasy characters can be hot. Heather, Vincent, and to a lesser extent douglas have very impresive models. Same goes for Henry, Eileen (basically just heather aged a bit) Cynthia, and both walters in 4, even though Jasper was really ugly... I cried when I saw the character models in "origins" I wanted my real Silent Hill games back...
That last game that impressed me visually was Shadow of the Colossus. Man, that game is just so incredibly beautiful! So far, despite the power, nothing on the new systems has really impressed me visually, with the exception of "Afrika" which I still have no clue about, though I like the way MGS4 looks, but I'll be playing it for gameplay and plot. The pretty graphics will definately just be a plus, as they aren't spectacular enough to warrent a play alone. As for in other ways things have impressed me, though

The very first game that wowed me like no other was Ocarina of Time. (My very first Zelda game ever.) I had never played anything like it, and I didn't play anything else for the following several months.
Shortly after that I discovered Chrono Trigger. It was the first time I had ever played a game with such a detailed storyline and characters. From beginning to end, it mesmerized me even more than Zelda had at that point. Deciding to see if Square's other offerings were as good, I tried Final Fantasy VI (III), knowing next to nothing about the series and that it was actually an RPG like CT.
On the whole, FFVI ended up impressing me even more than Chrono Trigger. (They nuked the freakin planet in the middle of the game for gosh sakes.) This led me to get hooked on FFV, FFIV (II); FFIV (Fan translated ver.); and from there I figured out how big the RPG genre actually was and went on a crazy streak trying to obtain as many as I possibly could.

When I got my PSone, I discovered a whole new slew of non-RPG games to 'wow' me.
Dino Crisis 2 - Best freaking action game Capcom ever put out. If you've never played this, hunt it down and buy it today. Ignore the mediocre Dino Crisis 1.
Resident Evil 3 - My introduction into survival horror. Still one of my favorite games of all time.
Metal Gear Solid - *insert everything others have already posted about this game here* By this time, I had almost forgotten about RPG's entirely. =3
Until my friend loaned my Final Fantasy IX, that is. I almost never returned it. =3

Depsite the fact that Dreamcast didn't have much in the way of my interests, I still own one just for the sake of my treasured copy of Sonic Adventure. By all rights, it is still the glitchiest game I own, but the excellent gameplay tends to make it easy to overlook it's faults.

Kingdom Hearts. I knew Square was either on the verge of something awesome, or something that would turn out to be one of the dorkiest concepts in gaming history. But, I had faith, and by the time I had reached Hollow Bastion, I concluded that the game indeed did not suck.
I nearly crapped my pants when I hit the '????????' choice in Olympus Colliseum and Sephiroth proceeded to pop down and annihilate me in 3 seconds. XD
Kingdom Hearts 2. Xemnas battle. 'Nuff said.

megaman 8 - the first megaman game i played. it was like a whole new genre of gaming for me. i loved the vivid colors and the sound effects were pretty cartoony (that's a good thing)

Thief Gold/Thief 2: The Metal Age (the almost pure focus on stealth in a steampunk world, heavy with lore but also great fun).
Impossible Creatures (the concept was brilliant - genetically engineering creatures combined from two animals, sadly the execution wasn't quite up to par - still a fun game).
Giants: Citizen Kabuto (a vast world, British humour, huge imagination, weird missions all in an RTS/FPS type game. Lots of variety also).

golden sun - one of the very first games i got for GBA. when i got this game, i was extremely inexperienced in RPGs (i still am). i was REALLY surprised by the battle graphics. i was really addicted to that game.

After seeing it a few weeks back, I can admit to saying "Wow, Runescape really sucks" (of course, there's quite a few other games I know that probably fit that).
Anyhoo, alot of stuff people already mentioned: the (good) Final Fantasy games, MGS, most Treasure titles, etc.
Namely one that still sticks out is Sin and Punishment. I can't stress how much I love this game.
Also, Terranigma for the SNES. Still the only game to *almost* make me cry in the end.

Well first and most important of all: The Dawn of War series of PC games. Not only do these games look awesome but they have great gameplay and sweet units (come on Space Marines and Tau? Can you get any better) I still love these games and likely will until Dawn of War 2 comes out.
Halo and Halo2 (Xbox): Say what you will but the story is great (especially when you read the books). The gameplay rocked and the Master Chief is without a doubt the coolest FPS hero ever...and I will lay the smackdown on anyone who contests that...
Republic Commando(Xbox or PC both versions are awesome): Grpahics where amazing and the gameplay...wow. When you squadmates will check each others gear between missions, when they will execute a door breach and chuck a genade through the door before charging in...its just awesome.
Killzone(PS2): This game runs on a PS2? Its graphics where awesome gameplay rocked and it had a good story...I just never noticed because I was enjoying the game so much

Command and Conquer and Red Alert are classics, they were amazing back in the day, wonderful RTS games. Fallout is a great game impressive in its scope and story, even today, and System Shock 2 still is one of the best RPG/FPS games I've played, and still scary despite the old graphics. Chrono Cross and Chrono Trigger, along with Final Fantasy 7 and 8, are my favorite RPGs, excellent storylines and fun gameplay.

Yes but it is done in the best of ways ^_^ but it was the gameplay that was the wow factor for me. Specially halo2 multiplayer

I was really impressed with the opening art and over all formant of Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. The whole opening sequence had me in awe (then again we're talking to some one here who hasn't played the final fantasy games... *goes off to mope in a coner). Also the game inface was very much more strategy based than flat out fighting, which I enjoy.
Another game that made a statement in my mind but only held my attention through the intro was Shadow the Hedgehog. But after beating the first run through I got tired of it.
And one game that I enjoy for a basic factor of over all fun would be Super Smash Bros. Melee. ^^ That is one game you can invite a crowd over and have a great time playing. Lot's of unoffical team backstabbing... ^^;;;

halo 2- only adds to halo 1
elder scrolls oblivian- wow, just wow. the scope of this game is huge. I love every minute of it
legend of zelda OoT- this is one of my all time favorite games.

Games that "Wowed" me-
Legend of Zelda- The first game to ever make me go "wow". It's also what got me to become a gamer. I am extremely happy to see that the "wow factor" of these games continues to this day.
Super Mario RPG: My first RPG other than Pokemon. (when I played pokemon I had no idea that it was an RPG)
Chrono Trigger: Need I say more?
Gears of War: I still have not played it more than 10 minutes, but the time that I did play it I couldn't believe my eyes. The graphical strength of this game is superior.
Halo: Combat Evolved- First FPS to ever show me that shooters could be more than just run and gun/ twitch games. The amount of on your toes quick personal tactical decisions during multiplayer still wows me. (not so much Halo 2, though)
Xenosaga: Episode 1- This gave me new hope for deep and complex storylines in RPGs. (sorry, FFVII didn't do anything new or surprising; not counting one event)
Resident Evil 4: The only game in which the death animations are often worth having to replay the last 20 minutes of the game.
F.E.A.R.: Still remains the sole horror game to legitimately scare me. I love this game. Speaking of which.... I need the expansion.

Spider-man 2: It made me say "Wow, a GOOD superhero game? This is awesome!"

Guild Wars has some beautiful music that I find to be quite amazing.
Golden Sun really wowed me. Awesome graphics (at least for the GBA) fantastic Story, Characters, Battle System, Item System, Magic System, and a huge map(especially if you count the Lost Age).
Half Life 2 is pretty cool too with its nifty physics and great graphics.

Gears of War : Great graphics, Great cover mechanics and a cliche yet good story
