Favorite Christmas-themed Anime

Postby rocklobster » Mon Nov 27, 2006 5:02 pm

What are your favorite Christmas themed anime episodes or movies. My pick is Big O Act 12, "Demonseed". Especially for this line:
Dan: "Do you know the real reason we celebrate Heaven's Day? It's the day God's son was born."
Please don't flame me, Osaka, but I actually like Tokyo Godfathers.
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you. I appointed you to be a prophet of all nations."

Satoshi Kon for the win! Satoshi Kon > Hayao Miyazaki

Anyway, Azumanga Daioh's Christmas episodes is my favorite.

I'd have to go with Ranma 1/2 "Tendo Family Christmas Scramble."

I don't much care for the show as a whole, but I find Love Hina's Christmas Special to be one of the best episodes of anything ever made.
Embraced by a gentle breeze, my heart breaks as I think of you.
All alone at the top of the hill, I watch as the seasons go by.

I liked the Big O episode Daemonseed too, mostly because of that line you quoted. It was a good episode overall too.

The Love Hina Christmas Special was just beautiful. I loved how it focused entirely on the romance with barely a scrap of fanservice. And I LOVE that song near the end!

Episode 35 of Robotech, "Season's Greetings". Khyron was amazing in that episode.

All I really know are the two Hamtaro Christmas episodes (one for each season) and the Sailor Moon S movie; I guess my favorite of those is the second season Hamtaro episode. ^_^

Awww...again with the Hamtaro! Though, I have to admit, the Christmas episodes with the Ham-ham's were cute!

The Sailormoon S movie took place during Christmas. That was a whole flipping movie, though as someone said, Tokyo Godfathers was probably more Christmasy than SMS... I just don't like the way Christians were portrayed on there, and the random breast close up thing toward the end was sorta weird... Still, between that and Millenium Actress, I'd choose Tokyo Godfathers... Millenium Actress was far too disjointed...

Another good Christmas ep is the Nadesico one... I know something significant happens in that ep, I just can't remember what it was... (goes to find it)

EDIT: Oh, right, the turningpoint of the show, when
The real Jovians show up... The episode would have ended better with "Akito (echo, echo)" The creators weren't really adept at creating suspense, I mean they give away who the leader of nergal is early on, as Well as the surprise about Ai... Of course, when I watched it, I missed two eps, so the show was much more interesting to me... I didn't know ahead of time about the chairman of Nergal or what happened to Ai, (though i figured it out in the memories episode... the Ai part, anyhow)
Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz also takes place at Christmas.

Tokyo Godfathers.
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

Neil Postman
(The End of Education)

Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge
