I think mine are all the final bosses in the first three spyro games.

Time Devourer from Chrono Cross was pretty cool... When you can choose to kill him or *spoiler free edition* by playing music with your magic, I say that's a pretty cool final boss...

That was a cool idea, but he's really easy to defeat (if you take the latter method, that is). XD I thought Miguel was harder than the Time Devourer.

As far as hard final bosses go, though, Lavos, from Chrono Trigger, gets the gold. He's a good boss to fight, and it's pretty challenging, too. I think that the hardest boss should be the last one, but it seems like some of the more recent-ish games have their hardest bosses one or two slots before the last one. Take Kingdom Hearts, for example. Fighting Riku was reeeaaally tough. Fighting Ansem? That was pretty easy. I died at least nine times while I was fighting Riku, but as I fought Ansem, I only died once. I prefer that the final boss be at least a bit of a challenge; otherwise, the ending is a little anti-climatic, and you can't let out that huge, "I DID IT!" sigh when you're done. XD

Another for Lavos. The whole thing was challenging and climactic, especially with the music ("World Revolution!!" =D ).

That, and the final boss of Sin and Punishment (come on, you get to fight a freakin' planet).

Ultimecia (FFVIII) had the COOLEST final boss music ever. XD I looove that song. Still, she's pretty easy, especially if you have a load of Auras and Squall with his Renzokuken and Lionheart. Yeah. Pretty much awesome. XD

FFVII's last bosses were easy, too. Well, they were for me, anyways. XD I had Knights of the Round when I fought him, sooo...*cough* Still, Bizarro-Sephiroth gets a nod for the "One-Winged Angel" theme.

That would be Sephiroth-Safer, Bizarro was the previous deformed one with less cool music that was INSANELY easy.

Knights of the Round? I know what it is, but throughout my 3 times of playing through, I never recieved it. Then again, I didn't deiscover who Vincent was until my third time though, so....

I found Ultimecia hard, but then again when I got to the 3rd form I only had two characters left, Rinoa and Squall.

My favorite final boss in a video game is Giygas from Earthbound. If you don't know why he's my favorite, you need to read up on useless Earthbound trivia.

QFT.

Also, I love the final boss in FFVIII. It's very difficult if you play the game the way it was meant to be, instead of keeping Squall at level 1. It's also epic.

I have to ask. why FFX?

(I personally loved sword dueling with Ganon in Wind Waker. Especially because we don't get good sword duels in Zelda that often.)

(I also enjoyed the final bosses in Golden Sun - both Satorous and Menardi, as well as the Fusion Dragon. They are majorly tough if you try to go and beat them at level thirtyish (which is the general level at that point of the game if you're not a hyper-obssesive leveler), but I still enjoy beating them even at level 50ish, mainly because I can do it without Djinni now. But I am MAJORLY annoyed because I accidentaly deleted that file... Along with my Kikuichimonji! Nyu. At least I still have the clear file at about level 48, but still... Nyu.)

FFX's last battle was cool... the first portion was actually difficult if you rush through the game up to that point, but it's very easy if you have break damage limit weapons. Still, a qualification for last boss for me doesn't involve difficulty... And the Miguel battle (Chrono Cross) was one of the hardest RPG battles I've played... That one took me a long time... Time Devourer, on the other hand, I gave the points because of creativity.

The other creativity points have to go to Giyagas in Earthbound... Is it possible to beat him without doing that? There were a couple "traps" in earthbound to mess people up who didn't have the strategy guide... That would mean they bought the game off a friend, used a rental, or otherwise got it used, because the guide came WITH the game...

I beat the game without using a guide. I got it used at a gamestore. I didn't notice that there where any "traps"... Can anyone fill me in on this?

I really find 2D fighting game bosses as being memorable. Particularly, Rugal Bernstein from King of Fighters, Geese Howard from the Fatal Fury series, and M. Bison from the Street Fighter II series.

Since a lot of this conversation is focused on console RPG bosses, the only one that really stands out to me is my first one, Mother Brain of Phantasy Star II. The only reason why is that it was my first console RPG boss.

Well, I'm going to have to join in with the people who already mentioned Lavos. And FFVII, VIII, and X.

And I would like to add FFVI. (Shame on you guys.)

Other memerable moments for me were:

Perfect Chaos (Sonic Adventure)

Nemesis Final Form (Resident Evil 3)

Xeanort (sp?) (Kingdom Hearts 2)

Ganon (Ocarina of Time)

Yeah, those bosses rock pretty hard. The last part of the Gannon battle was easier than the first. All you had to do was follow what Zelda says.
And as for the fusion dragon, I still haven't beaten it.

EDIT: I meant the three headed one from lost age. I have beaten the original one.

I'm going to be a bit different and say X-Death from Final Fantasy 5. Not only is he a challenge to defeat, but his theme music is pretty cool.

I'll also throw my weight in behind FFX (if we ignore the lame part with the aeons, as it isn't really a boss). As has been said, if you didn't get a weapon that can break the damage barrier it could be somewhat difficult, plus, I think it works thematically. The music, one of my favorite game songs, starts up, and the boss itself looks pretty cool... I was almost sad when he died basically instantly.

Actually, I don't know why and I'm more or less familiar with Earthbound. Do you like him because of the unorthodox way you beat him?

The first level of Ninja Gaiden is harder than any last boss ever. =(

I suppose if I had to pick one, it'd probably be that insane Sigma battle in Megaman X4, or the last boss(es) in Viewtiful Joe.

I mean, like
the prayer trick... No one ever uses prayer in Earthbound... It's too chaotic. Prayer can actually HURT you in the game.
Who would have thought that's the way to beat the last boss? I don't know if I would have figured it out without the guide.
