This was a good read.

It confirms a few things that I had read as rumors, such as Toei being responsible for the bad VAs and all the edits. 4Kids merely did what they were told.

It only confirms the popssibility of bad VAs. Not edits.

Yes, but they've made some boneheaded decisions in the past so it wouldn't surprise me if they did tell them what to edit.

And hasn't 4Kids made just as equally boneheaded decisions in the past as well? I mean Toei has some issues (For example: Nobody in the US will distribute Battle Royale because Toei demands a high price for it) but I don't think 4Kids is flawless either.

Said "Japanese team" was Toei. He just couldn't say anything else.

Toei also produced Konjiki no Gash/Zatch Bell, and Viz did a pretty good job with that anime. There were edits certainly, but far from the absurd levels of 4kids and certainly nothing as asinine as skipping entire arcs.

If all of Toei's properties wound up like One Piece regardless of the US company involved, you might be correct. But as it is, 4kids is responsible for a majority of the edits they do. Toei takes the blame for selling stuff to them.

At this point, it is my administrative duty to remind you all that ranting about the One Piece dub is not allowed. I was strongly inclined to close this thread immediately, but because I see signs of potential broader discussion I will allow it to remain open for the time being.

As for my comments on the subject at hand, they are limited. Quite an old interview. I read that in its original Shonen Jump, actually, a fact that I'm sure you were all dying to know.

Also, it seemed interesting to me that this was an interview with Mark Diraison, who happens to be a fan of the original series and has often signed autographs as "Zoro" (I'm a frequent member of the forum you posted, and some of the other members have met him in person).

I also find it interesting as Mark Diraison is probably one of the better VAs in this dub. Granted, some of the lines he has to say are pretty horrible (though that's not his fault, and his voice doesn't quite portray Zoro well enough; he's suppose to be 19 and all...), but he isn't a bad VA by any means.

I think it was a good interview; and I agree that Mark's one of the better V.A's in the anime. Even now, having not watched the anime for a long time, I can still hear his voice in his head exactly how it sounds on TV; it's memorable and I think he portrayed Zoro/Zolo well.
