The concept of moe originates from somewhere as far back as the 80s and grew into a thing in the mid 90s, mostly because of Evangelion. Moe is not an art style but refers more to character traits. There is a lot of reading on this subject. I will be back with more. ლ(╹‿╹ლ)

More stuff.

Fractale: I don't think the doppels are artificial constructs, but are more like avatars. That is, his parents are real people who are living somewhere else, but let Clain live on his own in the house. Presumably, it's the norm that everyone uses their doppels to carry out their business and live on like a beach in the Bahamas or something. Also, iPod with an SD card slot made me laugh so hard.

On Mitsudomoe: Just like with US TV, you can determine what the target audience of a show is based on when it airs. Just like with US TV, kids' anime airs Saturday and Sunday mornings. Most of the anime we talk about actually airs during late-night slots (with the exception of stuff like the Sunday 5pm slot). Mitsudomoe airs at 2 AM.

I think the offensive manga you are thinking of is Saint Young Men, in which Jesus and Buddha are actually roommates.

Great episode guys (and CK!). Peanut, you made a great guest. ^_^

I had previously only heard a little bit about K-on! (I never did too much research though, either), but it seems like an interesting and fun series. I may try to give it a watch.

Level E also seems worth a first episode watch.

Rio Rainbow Gate sounds....odd.

No offense taken, by the way. I refuse to associate myself with the current Sonic fandom (despite my username), especially the fan artists. :I
I could probably write a critical essay on how Sonic fans have ruined the whole franchise as well as the character, but that may be boring and pointless. Sometimes childhood memories are smashed and there's nothing to be done. :<

Looking forward to next episode, as always! :D

Wait...people actually think Saint Young Men is offensive? I can understand thinking it's not funny (I think it's pretty hilarious), but actively offensive...?

I don't understand the world in which I live.

Which one of us mentioned an offensive manga? If it was me, it wasn't St. Young Men.

I know I've been on record somewhere as saying Saint Young Men is disappointing, but never offensive.

I don't know if it's actually offensive because I haven't actually read it, but it's the first thing that came to mind when someone mentioned something that could possibly be remotely considered as being offensive in the context of that discussion.

Or maybe I am crazy.

you should divide the show from now on.

Yeah, it being divided makes it easier to listen to. Well, for me, anyway.

We will be doing this and I will actually be Redux-ing (like I did with this http://www.christiananime.net/showthread.php?t=57998) all the interviews eventually, followed by the lets watches and the discussions, so a majority of the content in the shows will eventually be segmented. Anyone have any interviews they'd prefer get Redux'ed first for easier listening?

I liked this episode, and I am really looking forward to more! I do want to ask about some of the pronounciations you guys use, specifically for Hetalia and Tsundere. It struck me as slightly funny that an anime podcast was uncertain about how to say certain words. Having studied Japanese a little bit, I'm kinda a stickler for pronounciation, but for all I really know pronounciation variations may not actually be much of an issue. In essence, are the pronounciations fluid, or is it just not that big of an issue?

Well I figure with 5 people per show from between 3 to 5 different accent backgrounds (depending on if you want to count me and fish as different backgrounds or not) we'll never get perfect agreement out of everyone anyhow without spending time coaching people on how to pronounce things, and that's just not worth it really, so long as people know what we're talking about.

We'll make a deal. You guys can make fun of the CAA podcast crew's pronunciations of Japanese words once anime voice actors pronounce all English words perfectly. :p

Heck, I don't pronounce words in english the same way all the time. The first episode of the new season I was saying question like 'quest-chon' for part of the interview. Why? I dunno.

From what I understand pronunciation is important in the Japanese language (more important than in English, at least). But, when you're not talking to a Japanese person, as long as people know what the heck you're talking about, it's not that big of a deal.
I suppose if anyone was looking to learn Japanese from the podcast, they may be out of luck. XD;;

But, I personally thought the podcast crew have been getting better at their pronunciation of Japanese words. :D
Just don't get me on there again, I'm such a stickler for Japanese pronunciation. >.<;;

I can neither confirm nor deny the rumors that I purposefully mispronounce everything I say in Japanese just to annoy our listeners who can actually speak it.

I am another one of those Japanese language enthusiasts and I am not gonna lie, incorrect pronunciation kinda drives me up a wall. I mean, I'm not asking people to correctly pronounce words like "Ken'ichi" or "Otoyomegatari" or anything, but... :I

I hope no one is a stickler for Spanish pronunciation because I'll come up front and say I can't do that rolling r thing for words that have "rr" in them. I've tried, I just can't do it, so any Spanish word with "rr" I can't pronounce correctly by default.
