Perhaps those posting in this thread could state why they like this particular anime...

For myself, I enjoy it primarily because of three aspects:
1) A plot that I am interested in
2) Well developed characters
3) Good fight scenes

The drama and animation are probably why I enjoy it. The characters are also very well developed.

Yes, I enjoy it.

It has a good plot, well-developed characters, and pretty good action scenes.

So far, I've only read some of the manga however.

ahh i want that arm!

i like full metal alchemist because of its plot, and how it can get really twisted and mixed up at times. And you do NOT know whats going to happen next

OF COURSE!!!

XD So far I've only watched the first episode, so the only reason I like it is the art.

And I like the message that humans can't create human life.

I've seen this show for the first time last night on Cartoon Network. I wasn't watching very attentively but from what I did see it's an interesting show. I like the animation as well as the characters themselves.

My roommate didnt like it though. She thought it was demonic or something and she was saying things like "Uh-uh, I bind this show up in the name of Jesus." Then again she's not an anime fan :eyeroll:

*adds Full Metal Alchemist to list of seen animes*

That is definitly one of the stronger themes throughout the story. In general, it seems the author wants to show that humans are not the all-powerful. It doesn't matter if you believe in God or not, it's still a fact. And I think that's a really important ponit.

I'll be honest:

I've never seen an ep in my life, but it seems so overrated that it turns me off :/ I mean, already there's four different topics on it on the first page of this forum alone!

It's always FMA this, FMA that, and nothing about the show even looks too appealing for me to watch, nor does the story. It just... doesn't seem to have that certain something to draw me to it. It's sort of like the "neo-Coyboy Bebop" in the sense that no one would quiet about it, and then I watched only the movie of it and it just... well I just couldn't see why it was popular!

*cough*

I can't speak for other people and I don't know why its so popular, but I can say this - its the best manga I've ever read in my entire life. If its story don't appeal to you - that's okay. But I don't think its overrated at all. It has a wonderful story, amazing characters, and beautiful art. IMO, it deserves four threads. ^^

well the fact that its so popular is kinda like Naruto. Many of my friends said it was overrated, but after watching it they too, were addicted to it. Sure, it has a lot of fans. But that don't mean its overrated. I love full metal alchemist because it's not always a "happy lets go everything will be okay" anime sorta like Naruto. And you can feel sympathy for the characters. It's got a whole lot of tragic events and occurances that sometimes made me want to cry. In some cases i almost did. So give FMA a shot tenshi ^_^

edit: Like gai Sensi in Naruto, there is also another character similar to his wackiness. That man is Major Louis Armstrong. And you will LOVE this guy!!!

infact, very strong. Kind of like Naruto where the theme is friendship. FMA's theme is to not try the impossible, or try to stop the inevitable. Doing so will only cause your more hurt and pain. And they stress that SO many times.

That is to say, I would if I could, really.

You see, Canada isn't a big supplier of anime on TV and by the sound of it, the dubbing doesn't sound grand. I would give it a rent, but my video stores don't carry many anime series... there is a chance it'll get it in, if popular series like GitS: Stand Alone Complex and .hack//SIGN came in...
I'd download it, but I'm trying to cut my bad habits to a minimum^^ It's not really something I would watch now and buy later, but either way if I get the chance, I'll tune in.

"Of Course!" XD FMA is awesome, yo. :3

Edit: The subbed version.. not the dubbed version... DEATH TO DUBBING!!! XD

I realize I have already posted in this thread, but I will do so again given the thread's gravedug but new status.

Personally, I am uncertain why Fullmetal Alchemist is so popular. Generally, high quality anime of this sort do not go mainstream, though I can understand it in some senses. However, I do personally think that it is a quality manga and most likely anime (though I cannot say anything from experience).

I'm halfway through the manga and I've seen some of the earlier anime episodes and I love it. XD Cool characters, great animation, interesting plot. Yeah some parts seem depressing but it doesn't get to me though.

It sorta seems to me that the depressing and sad epics and stories are the best. Examples: Gladiatior, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, um Metropolis
