Hey everyone. I was looking on ebay, and amazion for the boxset of Urusei Yatsura dvds, I can not find them annnnywhere, and the ones on ebay and amazion are a rip off. Do any of you all know of some other good websites (that wont rip you off with pirited dvds) where I can buy anime, like Urusei Yatsura? thanks for the help.

Try your your local Best Buy. In my experience, they have the best prices and selection of any major retailer which you can trust won't sell you pirate merchandise.

I'm curious what you mean by "rip off." If you don't want pirate sets, you're going to have to shell out for them. Around my area, Fry's has a decent selection/price ratio. As for Best Buy, well, the one's around here don't sell much Takahashi from what I remember.

If all you want is the DVD's, you can buy them individually from http://www.rightstuf.com. They sell just about everything at 10% off the list price. If you join their Got Anime club (for an annual fee) you can get an additional 10% off all purchases. They also have a lot of sales where you can get up to 40% (plus another 10% if you're a member) off DVD's!

However, if you are only interested in the boxsets, they are all limited editions and probably only available from AnimEigo themselves (http://www.animeigo.com). They are advertising that they have a few of the first boxsets left in stock and are selling them at 15% off their price, which is kind of pricy compared to other boxsets, but still cheaper than buying them one at a time. There are currently 5 boxsets available and they are taking preorders on boxset number 6. There are five DVD's per boxset and four episodes per DVD. I believe there are in the neighborhood of 148 episodes in the series.

Hope that helps!

All of mine were bought directly from AnimEigo. IMHO, it's the best way. Once you have a couple, you'll probably want them all.

To my knowledge, you can only purchase the boxsets from AnimEigo. Some of the earlier boxsets (1-3 I believe) are being discontinued. In fact, I checked their site yesterday and box set 2 is already out of stock. You can however still buy the individual volumes of the series. I have only purchased the first volume. I am trying to decide if I want to get into it at this point. At over 190 episodes, a dozen or so movies it's not only a big investment, but also a lengthy one. AnimEigo will be releasing this one for several more years.

Yes, it is quite an investment (I only just have the five box sets thus released, plus the two movies released so far).

I really like the series. I don't know what you know, but I haven't seen anyone else mention it in this thread so I will. it's the first big series by Rumiko Takahashi, who also created Ranma 1/2, Maison Ikkoku, and Inu Yasha. There's a certain style she has that is present in all of her works, so if you like one there's an excellent chance you will appreciate them all. I also enjoyed watching her style progress from one series to the next.

As a special note, not that you wouldn't figure it out quickly enough on your own, but the second Urusei Yatsura movie - Beautiful Dreamer - is released by Central Park Media, not AnimEigo, and I believe it is the only one available on DVD right now. I'm sure some one can correct me if I am wrong. I'm too old school; I had them all on VHS.
