I've heard something about an anime channel. Does anybody know what channel it's on? (I have satellite.)

At this point I believe the Anime Network is only offered through cable providers. I know of no satellite company that offers it, although I have sent a letter to Dish Network to consider carrying it. All you can do at this point is contact your provider. Until recently it was only offered on a pay per view basis, but if I'm not mistaken it has expanded beyond that now.
Viz Communications is also in the process of looking into development of it's own anime network.

That would be awesome, since about 3/4 of the anime I own is Viz and I tend to like their quality of dubbing, transfer and packaging.

FI Viz made its own network there's a chance they'd transalte Naruto anime! Yay! That sounds awesome! I actually hope it'll either be a separate add-on to ANY package, like Starz movies or the Ourdoors channel. If only it were available. As soon as I found some family friendly anime, it'd become one of my favorite channels! Maybe they'd even translate One Piece... That would rock!

I'm afraid it's a bit too late for that, Fireproof, I just recently found out through Animesuki that One Piece has been licensed by 4Kids

4Kids? DANG! They're going to edit the guts out of a good anime, like they did to countless others.

Not another "4Kids STINKS!" debate ...

As One Piece has been slated for Fox Box that is a safe assumption. But keep your chin up. 4kids is allowing Funimation distribution rights to some of it's older titles unedited. I am sure with the popularity of One Piece this will most likely be offered also to that title.

WE can only hope that an un-messed up One Piece manages to slip though and find its way out... I'm not trying to start a debate, ti's jsut that I'm a little irked at waht they did to Shaman King, and how they tore Yu-Gi-Oh down from at least a mediocre series to a kids show.

I'm mostly ranting about 4Kids now, although I WOULD really like the anime channel. I'll visit them a little later. This Simpson's quote will describe what 4Kids does: "Now, now. Not all of us were killed in teh nuclear blast. Some of us were jsut horribly mutated, turning us into hideous freaks!" In this case, death is the Shaman King treatment: changed names left and right, the word "die" appears once then it's that they'll "finish you off," and the storyline is bent in directions unknown. They changed Tao REn, a perfectly cool name, and made him Lenny of the Tao family. That just bugs me.

You could go to
www.theanimenetwork.com and request that it be added to your cable provider, but just know that doing so WILL put your emailing on the list of ADV (the parent company of the anime network). That will get you about 2 e-mails a month concerning new ADV anime, products, etc.
If you don't have a digital cable provider though (e.g. Comcast) then the likelihood of getting the anime network is pretty low, because of the mostly VOD (Video On Demand) nature of the network. Under this VOD system, your cable provider will get about 50 or so new hours of anime each month, and you can access the anime at any time 24 hours a day through your cable's video on demand service (whether or not you pay extra for the service is really up to the cable company). In practice though, this means finishing a 26 episode series in 26 weeks. And, if you are like me, and you don't want to watch a series unless you can watch it from ep 1, that means a lot of the new content that is stuck in the middle or end of a series just won't be worth it, because you won't watch it. So the anime network is not a "network" in the traditional sense, but simply a network of "on-demand" programming.
Hope this answes your question.

Anime Network is currently Video-On-Demand...but they are also starting an Anime Network Channel for digital cable. This is beginning on one cable system this month (I think it's Insight), with announcements expected soon for other cable systems. Given that Anime Network On-Demand is Comcast's number one On-Demand service, I suspect we'll see other cable systems picking up the "regular" channel soon.
ADV has already announced that anime shown on the channel will be edited...whereas anime shown on the On-Demand service is not. There is a FAQ at the Anime Network web site.

Now, I think that's a little harsh. I agree that they kind of messed it up and made too kiddy. But I still like Yu-Gi-Oh, because I can look past some of the more kiddy stuff and see it for what it really is. I think it's an awesome show!
And, uh, KataKOON...WHERE DID YOU GET THAT IMAGE IN YOUR SIG?! Is there more where that came from? Because if there is, you must tell me what site it's from!! Must have more Naruto images!!

Anime Network is not pay-per-view (at least not on Comcast)...it's On-Demand, offered at no additonal charge for digital cable subscribers.
And the "regular" Anime Network channel is coming...rolling out beginning this summer, beginning with Insight cable systems in the midwest.
