ME!! ME !!! *jumps up and down enthusiastically*

There is a group here in Omaha that meets to watch anime at a comic store once a month. They played some Detective Conan(orignal name for Case Closed) during the last year or more. It is awesome subtitled!!
See, animesunday.org for more information about the omaha group. :)

Actually, I've become a fan of the show as well...^^;; It's cool. And it makes you think, but not in that "what in the world are they talking about" sort of way. I'd like to see it subbed someday...:)

Yeah I love the show. It reminds me of some books I was a fan of as a kid that are about a childhood detective. I'm still fully convinced that there is no way I could ever be a detective - I'm the least observant person I know. I do like the show though, I just think it is a bit formulaic so far. I can get past that however, as the show is really entertaining, I just can't believe Jimmy's alibi is still holding up. If it lasts more than another episode or two, I'll be pretty amazed.

I love the series! Of course, I've only seen it in Chinese, and have yet to see it subbed or dubbed.
But still........Why did they HAVE to change the names?! :waah!:

I would have liked Case Closed if they left it virtualy untouched except for translating the dialogue. Shinichi is.... Jimmy!?!? Ran... Rachel!?!?! ARGH! I wonder how they'll work around the name clues that happen later on in the series (I've read until manga volume 38+ and the anime follows pretty faithfully).

Again, I shall shake my fist at FUNimation.

Ahh, so -that's- what the original names were. I hate when they change things...>.< I was just complaining about it to my sister the other day...

Anyway, that -is- going to be an interesting workaround...

Let's just say that the episode finishes with Conan/Jimmy's identity still a secret. I hope that's what you were asking about. If you wanted to know who the kidnapper was:
It was Nicholas, the teammate of the soccer player who kept trying to throw the game. Nicholas thought that his teammate had intentionally injured him in a practice because he thought that he would be surpassed as the star of the team, so he got his kid brother to come and play video games at his house while leaving a fake ransom note and trashing the house to make it look like a kidnapping.
That's by no means the whole ep, but I hope it helps

I've been doing that ever since I found out DBZ was edited.... About the name thing, that's another FUNi trademark. They will screw something up, then have to use the original for storyline purposes, while digging themselves into a deeper hole. *shakes head sadly*
Think happy thoughts.

I'm a huge fan of Detective Conan.....BUT

only the MANGA. The manga is way better than the anime in my opinion. Gosho Aoyama, the creator is one of my fav. manga artists. The crime solving and detective stories are intelligent, delightful, good fun and even (*gasp* educational) to read. I'm surprised why no publishing company has picked up Detective Conan yet. It's one of the most popular titles in Japan spanning over 40+ manga volumes so far and it gets better each time. IMO, it's one of the best family-friendly manga available out there and I can't get enough of it.

Great character development, solid plot, action, tragedies, sweet romance, philosophy on life and focus on family/friendship bonds. Shinichi's parents are cool too! hehe Many characters are admirable and great role models. highly recommended.
I think Shuuichi Akai is hot, I wish Takagi and Satou would get on with it (haha) and I can't wait to know the "real" identity of Vermount/Chris Vineyard! XD
Really, where did you find a copy? I have a couple volumes of Shonen Sunday in Japanese and they have detective conan, but I can't fully read them enough to tell what's going on.

Nooo... Why did they have to get Kodocha? I'm going to weep if they dared touch my precious Kodocha and ruin it like they did Detective Conan...

All my "Conan supplies" comes from Indonesia or Malaysia (from Asia) and they're not bootlegs. ^^ I'm really hoping Conan will reach the U.S soon.

I always encourage ppl to buy the real thing when it's available but for now, this page has some great Conan information and scanslations. Spoilers abound!

Ann: My Indonesian friend imports Conan from home on a regular basis along with two titles, "Kungfu Boy, Master Cooking Boy" (which I'm starting to like as well). XD Go Akai!!

Mave: I'm going to get the last books of New KungFu Boy (Shin Tekken Chinmi) when I get back, yay! Off-topic: is it weird to read Indonesian when you know Malay? I read a volume or two of Conan in Malay and it just made me laugh cause words have different meanings between the two languages. (ex: in Malay, I believe 'child' is 'budak', right? Well, 'budak' in Indonesian means slave XD)

And I can't believe we're going to the same sites again XD Hehehe, "A Tight Match" in vol. 41 has most of my attention for the moment. (Death to FUNi!!!)

YES! I've been a Detective Conan (still hurts to say Case Closed -_-;;) fan for a few years now ~~ it really is one of the coolest series out there. There's a lot of life lessons to learn from Conan/Shinichi ("Jimmy"). The character designs are awesome, and...oh, there are too many great things about this series!
Oh, I believe that Viz Communications recently licensed the Detective Conan manga. The title will be changed to Case Closed, but I think that the original names will be kept...yay!!
Peace~~
I wish, grasping the cross on my chest,
That in the morning, hope will rain down on you
That at night, a gentle light will envelop you
And give you the courage to face tomorrow.

Boy, I'm glad the publication companies back home had the sense to maintain the original names in Conan. I mean, I can't believe they made Shinichi "Jimmy." :eh: *joins Ann and parades around* Death to Funi!!!

Viz licensed Conan? Hooray!!!

OT for Ann: 'budak' means that??? 0.o Gila, parah bangat. No wonder my boyfriend had a hard time reading my Conan manga from Malaysia. He gave up the first time but later on, picked up the manga again and forced himself to read it again. I thought Jakarta slang was similar to Malay. hehe To answer your question, it was a little troublesome at first but I've gotten used to speaking, reading and listening to Indonesian, it's almost second nature. Writing, however.....

Curious, I wonder why Viz chose to go with Case Closed? Is some bizarre contract with FUNi or are they worried people won't make the connection between Detective Conan and the Case Closed series on CN? -_- As long as they keep everything else in the manga original, there won't be much protest. And boy, this sure is going to be a long project for Viz.... 45 volumes and still going, right? XD And I believe the TV episodes are around 300+?

OOT Mave: huahahaa, memang parah XD I can 'read' Malay as well, it's almost has that Singlish feel to it... writing english words as they are pronouned with the accent. Btw, just what is slave in Malaysian?? And there's a another thing about 'rumah sakit korban lelaki' that's a hospital for pregnant women, right? Well, 'korban lelaki' basically means 'victim of man' XD XD Is it true? O_o

"Case Closed"? XD Is that what they're calling Detective Conan now? Lol, I thought it was a new anime you guys were talking about. Okay, I get it. I did watch Detective Conan years ago, dubbed in Tagalog. Didn't see the entire show, though. Just a couple of eps here and there, but I enjoyed them. ^^
