The worst part is, I DON'T EVEN GET CARTOON NETWORK but sometimes I'm glad...

The DVDs will most likely be unedited. If there is any editing to be done Cartoon Network will be doing that. Actually, Funi did a super job on Fruits Basket and although I've not watched them, I have not read any complaints on Kiddy Grade or Tenchi Muyo GPX in reviews. Why people can't get past DBZ is beyond me. You have to remember they started putting out that show close to 10 years ago when I am sure companies were a bit unsure as to how the general public would react. To their credit, Funi has developed into one of the leading companies and if you buy FMA volume 1 you will most likely be satisfied.

I'm with the good Rev here. Why does everyone think Funimation is the kiss of death for a series? :eyebrow:

Because, Funimation rips things up...but it's necessary, I guess. I don't even want to know why POKEMON, of all things, had to be edited.......

I think this post from bcdb sums up my opinion on Funimation these days. I've edited it slightly (how ironic in this thread ^_^), but the main points are here. Mind the typos:

I think Funimation is a whole lot worse than 4Kids

It WAS a whole lot worse in the late '90s, but that was before the Anti-Funimation campaign was put into action.

{I}n 2002, they liscenced "Yu Yu Hakusho", a classic anime series that, coincidently, competed pretty well in the Japanese ratings, second only to DBZ.

And that same year, there was "Friuts Basket", a series that focused more on relationship and character interactions rather than fighting, but somehow, was dubbed perfectly.

The only slump that they hit recently was with the third Dragon ball franchise, "Dragonball GT", which brought back some of the conterversy behind its preceder series "DBZ", also with the fact that they skipped the first 16 episodes in favor of getting to the action (though they plan on releasing those episodes later this year, unlike 4Kids).

But even after the conterversy over DBGT, Funimation managed to redeem themselves again last month, with the release of "Kiddy Grade", a series that's about an organization, which is known as GOTT, which has been good so far.

Anyway, in the end of it, Funimation has proven that it IS possible for a company to make a full turnaround, and a lot of their acquisitions prove that it is possible to licsence the original music of the series without a lot of problems (save DBZ/GT, but those were on their decision) and it can also show that it is possible to make a decent English dub.

In short, 4Kids is just being stubborn with its liscences and refuses to admit it, though that is how Funimation used to be, but look at what a campaign project did to turn it over on the good side.

Seems that there is a second misconception, and that being, because an anime has been edited Funimation must be distributing it.

Pokemon was licensed by Geneon (Pioneer) Entertainment and produced by 4Kids Entertainment. Funimation has nothing to do with Pokemon.

Well put shooraijin.

And I may be mistaken, but hasn't Funi gone back now and started reproducing all of DB and DBZ including new dubbing for the shows? I would imagine these will be unedited. And I know when I have been shopping I have noticed DBZ labeled as "cut" and "uncut." Again, I am assuming, but I think the uncut would be an unedited edition.

Ohhh that stinks. :sniffle:

Oh well, I get Cartoon Network but I was planning on buying this one eventually. And since I only buy dubs XD this is a good thing.

Edit: I actually just read the article. What the heck do they mean "a cartoon that has already sold 51 episodes to Cartoon Network for an October air date." I thought there only was 51 episodes in the series. Does that mean!!!???!!! They are going to make more? Yay!

For me this could be good. If it's editted to that rating (that most loathe) called "Y7; FV" then I'm more likely to be allowed to watch it. But... they're trying to raise the dead? That might not go over well with my parents...

Haha. Well actually that article was sort of wrong... Technically at the beginning they tried to bring back their mother from the dead. But after what happened as a result they gave up that idea, and now are just trying to get their body/limbs back.

I don't think they could edit it to Y7 without loosing 50% of the plot. It's violence level is pretty much equal to Inuyasha. The article didn't say but I bet it's going to be on Adult Swim.

I think I'd heard something like this too, and that their new DVDs have three tracks (Japanese, edited dub and new dub), or some such.

The DVDs will most likely be unedited.
Because of what Ekul said that's proably what' we'll be getting anyhow >.>;;;

BUT STILL! IF THEY SCREW UP THE STORY OR ANY OF THE CHARACTERS I WILL NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER FORGIVE THEM! THEY'LL HAVE USED UP THEIR 490 CHANCES, INDEED! >.< FMA IS MY FAVORITE FREAKIN MANGA/ANIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Edit: If they give Ed a hot voice I might forgive them. Maybe.

Yeah, Funi has gotten better since DBZ, Yu Yu Hakusho was dubbed a whole lot better then DBZ(even though I didn't like how they changed some of the scrpit around in the English version, I am glad they give the direct translation on the DVDs) Fruits Basket was an excellent dub though.

Yeah, I know some people who really enjoyed the Fruit Basket dub. *let that be a good sign? ^^;;*

Guys....seriously. If Funimation hadn't brought DBZ to the States, most of you probably wouldn't even be watching anime right now. I sometimes don't like to admit it, but DBZ was one of my first anime. Funimation made some mistakes, they're changing their ways now, so chill...there'll always be DVDs if the dubbed edit sucks that much.

Although I wanted to see FMA...now I gotta wait and rent the DVDs...-_-;

I am in total agreement with Rev. Doc and shooraijin.

FUNimation has done a good job with most of their anime and no matter how good the dub will be, we can certainly expect unedited dvds.

I imagine the manga will also be licensed pretty soon...

FUNimation has been on a roll lately. First, Detective Conan was licensed, than Kodomo no Omocha and now Full Metal Alchemist.

...I kinda saw FMA falling into the hands of Funi or 4Kids a looooooong time ago~ =/ I guess I can always keep my hopes up, but after Yu Yu Hakusho I've pretty much lost my faith in them~

Well since this is a partnership, I doubt that Square will allow Funimation to screw up with their big time Statewide money maker. If the Anime and manga tanks, so will the game. Square will not allow that to happen.

I'm with "the good Rev", Shooby and ShiHi and have nothing against Funimation. Like any other company, they've changed and grown better over the years. And plus, if it's on CN, I know I'll be able to record it when I'm busy with college and come home to watch it without worrying about offending my parents/younger sibs. Much cheaper way to watch the series, especially since I'm about to be a broke college student like everyone else.

FUNi (excuse my rabid-DBZ-fan slang *sweatdrop*) has given me a mistrust of dubbers I will never shake off.The things that are usually wrong with a FUNi dub are:
a) Voices. Anyone heard Furiza's voice? 'Nuff said.
b) Editing. No matter how much they edit it, they must edit/cut it in some way.
c) Script, script, SCRIPT!!! Their translations are just a loose rewriting of the original.
d) They start these loooooooong arguments we have!

I'm interested to see just where on CN it airs. Also, on the comment of them showing it on Adult Swim so the blood won't b cut; the editted Rurouni Kenshin and showed (most of it) just fine. Then again they DID cut out a pretty crucial episode in the battle with Shishio (I think?). But they did play Cowboy Bebop and I'm told that they editted the language from it and left in the blood, which would be just fine. Or was I mis-informed?

For one thing im not a big fan of CN anime and I don't really care about Funi.

This is how I look at it...

Despite the massive cutting and slicing up, I get to watch it. Plus without any of the bad stuff that might appear in it thats unedited.

I forget who has this on thier sig but WWJW (what would Jesus watch). I think it's better for Christians to watch the anime that appears on CN or network cause we know thiers nothing tempting or make us stumble.

Then again, we might have to sit through a piece of poorly done anime that the dubbers butchered.

In short, I'm glad to see this anime come to the US cause I've heard great things from it. Even it's on CN, it's still enjoyable.

Ooo. I hadn't even thought of that.

I've been called an "anime elitist" by someone on this board, and I guess you can say I am. I prefer all written works and shows to be played unedited, uncut, and in its original form. I don't think a show written by non-believers, whether it's Pokemon, Kim Possible, or Kill Bill Volume 2, is ever going to pass the ultimate criteria – whether or not it is truly Biblical and something Jesus would watch – which I think is a rather ludicrous statement, to say the least.

So then, why don't we all pack up and shut down CAA? Because, we are human beings and we enjoy things; like food, media, and luxuries, and I don't believe God would object to us enjoying anime whether it's uncut, or edited, as long as we are not making this the focal point of our whole lives, and as long as we are not placing this above our God.

[color=black][size=84]“But to me it is a very small thing that I should be examined by you, or by any human court; in fact, I do not even examine myself. I am conscious of nothing against myself, yet I am not by this acquitted; but the one who examines me is the Lord. Therefore do not go on passing judgment before the time, but wait until the Lord comes who will both bring to light the things hidden in the darkness and disclose the motives of men’s hearts; and then each man’s praise will come to him from God.â€
