I'm curious about the record of the Lodoss Wars. I picked up the manga one day but I had to put it down because of the violence. How violent is the anime? I liked Lord of the Rings. Would I probably like RoLW? Thanks for your help.

i think if you liked LotR then you would definatly like RoLW, i thuroughly enjoyed it, you can see alot of character similarities between the two, i havent seen Chronicles of the Heroic Knight though, only Record of Lodoss War

Actually, the content isn't very different between the two series. I think you'd like, it, Manga .... you still need a nickname.

Record of Lodoss War owns... it's kinda like an animeisation of D&D, if that makes any sense. It has a good soundtrack too.

The violence of RoLW isn't that bad in the anime. Only 3 people actually die... they just show it over and over and over again . Talk about recycling footage, sheesh. Other than that I really enjoyed it, I even bought both series.

From what I understand (please correct me if Im wrong), there are a couple versions of The Record of Lodoss War. Honestly, Im not sure which one I own.

I dont really watch it much. To me, it really felt like I was just watching a group of kids playing an RPG. Interesting at times, but not fantastic in any way. Not that every anime you watch needs to be awsome, but at least the ones you are spending your money on.

I did get a kick out of the "After show." At first it was just very annoying, but then I kind of grew to like it.

I would be interested in seeing what Gypsy's review says.

The after show -- haha. That's part of the TV series, but there's also the OAV, which is different.

Anyway, I have both series, and I prefer Chronicles of the Heroic Knight out of the two (although the song from the first part of the shorter series is good). There are a lot of differences between the stories, although there isn't a greal deal of violence in either as I recall.

I haven't read the manga, but the series is one of my favorites. I especially like the designs of the armor, and summoning spells (in Chronicles of the Heroic Knight).

Record of the Lodoss War is a classic, and is definately worth seeing if you have the opportunity. Admittedly, it isn't the greatest anime ever made (kaji's right in that it's a bit like a D&D adventure), but it's still fun. Granted, I rented the series and didn't buy it.

Plus, Deedlit is really cute.

Yeah, I've been thinging about the nickname thing for a while. . . is there any way I can change my user name to something that's a little easier to spit out? Or would that totally confuse everybody?

I had noticed that the animation in the opening and closing sequences seams to be slightly different than the actual show. Perhaps it is because they simply used the opening from a different version for the TV show as well?
Anyway, what is the difference between the OAV and the TV series? Are they actually different stories? Or just the same story presented a little differently?

The OVA has continuity issues after the War of Heroes when compared with the manga. The tv series is truer to the actual story.

If the show you saw had Spark in it, then it was the tv series.

Well, you're allowed to change your username, but don't mind me razzing you about it. I tend to shorten everyone's name. I dunno ... maybe I'll come up with something creative just for you. oh, I mean .

Yeah, often the footage seen in openings aren't actually clipped from the show itself, and that can be really disappointing sometimes - Lodoss is a classic example of this. Both series do it, actually.

Well, there are major differences, but for the most part, the TV series can almost be watched as a sequel to the OVA. However, I don't think they're actually related. I believe the TV series actually follows the original book more closely than the OVA.
