Marmalade Boy

I checked for threads about this already, but found none, so here I go.

Has anyone else ever read this? It's so awesome! Yuu is the coolest, but Ginta is way up there. Makes me semi-envy green when I read it. Lucky Miki. Lucky Arimi. I love the art in this one too.

I picked Marmalade up one day, but flipping through it I sorta felt like I was reading an anime soap opera. At that point I had to put it down. Maybe one day I'll try again.

It sort of is a soap opera, but it's so adorable. ^_^ I reread the manga this weekend. *giggle*

One of the new things I watched using netflix is marmalade boy, which I had only read manga for. As I was allready somewhat familiar with the story, it was an easy transition.

Much as was the case with Kodocha, the anime is a little wilder than the manga, and the anime is washed out and already, after only 10 years, rather dated. It's still fun, as are the commentaries that the voice actors for the NA version make... Of course, it is almost as if they've never seen an anime in their life... They made some inane and ignorant comments, but for the most part it was hillarious... Like MST3k only they actually talked over dialogue, and you couldn't see them.

I love this story, though. I guess I'm just a sucker for romantic stuff, even if there is a weird premise... I mean, at least it isn't "Love Hina"

I just got the second DVD today, but I'm lending out my PS2... My friend really wanted to try RPG maker...

Is the anime storyline different than the manga line? I heard somewhere that it was, but I might be wrong.

I've read the manga...it was sometimes over-dramatic and sappy, but it was cute enough that I could swallow it. XD How's the anime? Is it clean enough to watch?

I purchased the first Box Set last April and have to say I really enjoyed it. The second Box Set comes out October 26th and I've already pre-ordered it. I do hope they begin releasing these on a faster time frame though. 6 months is just too long of a wait.

Six months is too long. I'm eagerly awaiting my second set as well. I really like the series, and it does get wild at times, but that's a big part of what I like about it. With out the occational goofiness, then it would be just a shoujo-y soap opera to me.

I've read the manga as well and there are some differences. The basic plot is the same, but I think the anime actually out paced the manga's writer. If you're reading the manga, manga-ka gives hints to the differences in little margin notes.

I only got the first DVD (first six eps) through netflix, just got the second one (but don't have my PS2, so I can't watch it) so I don't even know if any of the other DVDs have this, but the commentary track on eps 1 and 2 was too funny to pass up... You need to watch it, if only for that. Think Mystery Anime Theater (ooh, I hope they still do that at otakon... I wanna go there someday)

You're all going to laugh at me, but...

I have no clue what it's about...however the name "Marmalade Boy" somehow reminds me of "Peach Man"... That freaky obese guy who eats humans (in Inu-Yasha). :eh:
Heart of Sword's Rhapsody

Money, get away
Get a good job with good pay and you're okay
And all and all you're just another brick in the wall
Shoutin’ in the street gonna take on the world some day
But Bismallah will not let me go
Because I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

Tommy used to work on the docks
Union's been on strike
Bright eyes burning like fire
And exposing every weakness
However carefully hidden by the kids

Who will love a little Sparrow
Who's traveled far and cries for rest
Spare him his life from this monstrosity

I've seen a million faces and I've rocked them all
And if the band youre in starts playing different tunes
We will we will rock you
We will we will rock you!

Marmelade Boy

Miki is a normal teenage girl in High School (I think it was high school... It's not Jr High, is it?) Her parents call her in and tell her to "not get upset" (hahahaha... What a stupid way to prepare someone to not get upset...) They tell her they're getting divorced. The news that she's going to lose one parent rips her apart, but they're not done. On their "romantic" getaway cruise to Hawaii, they met another couple and fell in love with each others' partners... SO, they are switching partners and to clench it all, the other family has a teenage son, a blonde girly man named Yuu (hehehe, well it's shoujo manga/anime, most of those men are feminine to some degree...) She thinks she has an ally in Yuu, but as it turns out, Yuu (psychopath that he is) says it doesn't matter and that it is up to the parents... She freaks out and is scared of losing one parent and having to live with a stranger, but the family lets her know that they are all goign to be living together. The psychopath parents think that's the perfect solution to keep Miki happy. She is (understanably) upset by it, but she finally gives in.

As they go to school, a romantic tension forms between Miki and Yuu, and the boy Miki liked previously, Ginta, was never able to express his feelings, but now Yuu is in the picture, bla bla bla... I gave a really unflattering description, but despite the soapy premise, it's a very touching show/Manga... I really love it.

Here's how much I'm enjoying and anticipating Marmalade Boy. I got the first set for my birthday in June. I loved it.

Now at the top of my DVD "wish list" for Christmas is the second set. I can't wait.

I suppose their release of this series is good for my presents (perhaps set 3 for the next b-day?), but I would prefer the releases closer together. And the series can't last forever, although I wish it could.

Me and my romantic comedies... :red: I never thought I would be a sucker for these things...
