Need Help On Anime Research>>>

I am working on a presentation for our senior management concerning Anime. I need to educate them about the popularity of Anime on a global scale, how there has been such a rapid growth in the U.S. importing films, companies dubbing into English or subtitles for DVD or VHS release, as well as merchandising.

We are currently in the developing stages of concepting an animation series for the direct video market domestically while broadcasting overseas.

We are seriously looking at moving toward Anime style series. Not just in look but actually being produced in Asia.

Does anyone here have any idea where I can get sources on how much money consumers are spending yearly in the U.S. importing Anime Films, DVD, VHS and merchandising. Also I need this source on a global scale.

Any help with this information would be greatly appreciated.

Perhaps you could get that kind of info by contacting the distributors themselves?

Most distributors I have talked with so far, will not release those kind of numbers unless we partner with them to distribute our product. At this time, we are not close enough with a finished product to start shopping it around to find partner(s) for distribution. The issue I have, is I need those numbers to justify the direction of going Anime opposed to traditional style animation to our senior management team. Thanks for the input :)

One thing for sure is that the market in US has increased DRASTICALLY since few years ago. Not just US, but everywhere around the globe where anime weren't present much.

In most common cases an anime fan would spend around $50 to $100 for each title. Let's say they get average of 5, across the broad, because some people don't buy everything.

There still are a big number of people who still pirate anime. Otherwise, many people spend quite a fortune.

All I can tell you clearly is that when people want to spend on anime, they spend big. And there are a LOT of people who will spend big. Especially in areas of the world where anime is exotic, rather than common (eastern Asia countries find anime common, therefore have a market but they'll have a totally different system; they'd rather rent, because there are just that many titles).

My guess is on average around $300 per year per person, in America and Australia, throughout continents, if they're a fan.

Here are some articles that I gathered up from ICv2 that may be of use:

You may want to subscribe to them if you feel the need to; after you've checked them out.

A tidbit I read some where that either in '02 or '03 there were over 40 anime shows and movies that came (or were predicted to come out) which was something like a 20-30% increase. That may show it's popularity from the increase in production of new shows.

I hope this helps any. I only grabbed from one source and I'm sure there a few others that could be just as helpful.

This helps me BIG TIME :thumb:
I have been told to make this presentation based on a 13 episode series running 28 minutes each for television broadcast. These episodes will be also translated for the following countries: Japan, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia and possibly India.
