 A new one i've read is [color=DarkOrchid]Faires Landing that's pretty cool, and anything written by Clamp rocks, always, and Yuu Watase is also a good author(Ceres, Fushigi Yuugi, Alice 19th~all good)
(these are all mangas and some of them are Anime as well)

AS TwilightKiss said, CLAMP is awesome--I'd especially recommend Angelic Layer, Cardcaptor Sakura, and Magic Knight Rayearth (MKR is of the fantasy genre, with a great storyline--if you liked .Hack you'd probably enjoy it). The Vision of Escaflowne (the series) is excellent--it is mainly of the fantasy genre, but it also incorporates elements of mecha and romance.

Ditto that about Angelic Layer. ^^ I luv the Mangas, and although I've never seen the anime, I've heard it's good.

Rurouni Kenshin: Kick butt anime and mnga with a awesome storyline and intresting arcs (sagas if you will). it also involves Japanese history.

Trigun: Havnt read the manga but i've seen the entire series and it is abosutely hilarious!! Yet serious in it's own way. It appears to be rather goofy at first but later it gets pretty dark and serious. You can beat a Sci-fi Western

Hellsing: oh wait..reccomend..nevermind

Cowboy bebop: Awesome awesome story with a surprising ending. Extremely funny ins ome episodes and then some episodes rather sad. The music is very good (mostly jazz....you can view a sample of it buy clicking Call Me Call Me link...isn't jazz but sitll a awesome song)

Outlaw Star: Prtety funny and also intriguing. Veyr intresting storyline for one thing and also the every single time you watch it, you will want to watch the ending credits cause it has buetifula rtwork and music.

Neon Genisis Evangelion: It has alot of fan servic ein it but if that doesn't bother you that much...it's a awesome awesome series that has a intresting plot line and the character developement throughout the anime is awesome!

I havn't read that much manga so I can clearly suggest any good ones.

"Castle in the Sky" is still one of my favorite movies...ever. I don't know how all the rest of Hayao Miyizaki's movies are, as far as content and religion-wise (...only saw "Princess Mononoke", plus a poor quality "Nausicaa" :stressed: ), but "Castle" honestly was just great. Story, animation, themes, art...nggg, yeah!! XD 'Twas superb.

Anybody have thoughts or recommendations with Miyizaki's films?

Have to agree with you there NeoMikey. Besides Princess Mononoke and Knockin' on Heaven's Door its really the only "anime movie" I've seen  But after seeing a few AMV for Castle in the Sky, *nod nod* Yeah.

The magazine Shonen Jump has a nice selection of great manga for a fairly cheap price.
It currently includes Naruto, One Piece, Shaman King, Yu Yu Hakusho, Dragonball Z, Yugioh, and Hikaru no Go.
Click here for the official website.
