Cartoon Network has just unleashed its huge yearly update. The following was announced.
Toonami is LEAVING weekdays, and taking over Saturdays. It will remain in approximately the same format it holds now, although some form of change is considered likely. This change takes place on the same date as Adult Swim's move to Saturday, April 17th, and will run from 7:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.
A new block is taking over Toonami's old spot on Cartoon Network. It is, for all intents and purposes, a block for young children, and I will not be covering it unless I'm asked to by anyone who cares. I will, however, tell you the initial lineup.
5:00 - Totally Spies
5:30 - Code Lyoko (I don't know what this is)
6:00 - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (new cartoon)
6:30 - Teen Titans
Toonami will feature loads of new programming, presumably geared towards the older audience. Transformers: Energon, Yu Yu Hakusho, Rurouni Kenshin, Gundam SEED, Justice League, and Dragonball GT were all mentioned, as well as all-new programming such as Rave Master and Megas XLR (you may remember it as the CN special that aired a couple years ago, Low Brow). Kids WB's Astro Boy was also mentioned.
Saturday Adult Swim has been cancelled. Thursday nights will be anime-exclusive. This can, and hopefully will, change later in the year. On April 22nd, The Animatrix will air, followed by the following schedule the week after.
Thursday, April 29th
11:00 - Wolf's Rain (new)
11:30 - Inuyasha (new)
12:00 - Inuyasha (new)
12:30 - Detective Conan (to be named "Case Closed") (airs Monday-Thursday beginning in April) (new)
1:00 - Witch Hunter Robin
1:30 - Big O
Adult Swim comedy only made a few announcements. Birdman's new season begins on April 18th at 11:30. Aqua Teen Hunger Force was mentioned, but it said nowhere in the initiative that it was renewed for new episodes. Home Movies was clearly not renewed. Sealab 2021, however, WAS renewed. And The Venture Brothers was picked up as a series, and will air beginning August 1st.
my one and only anime source is one one day a week?

They're airing Animatrix on CN??? Also, detective conan on ADULT SWIM??? Maybe I'm thinking of the wrong show, but how does this show get on Adult Swim?

Well, here is the news report from a website I go to.
"Toonami Gets Saturday Night Fever
And Aims For an Older Audience
Major changes are ahead for the Cartoon Network, chief among them the replacement of the weekday Toonami Block with the new Miguzi Block. Starting Saturday, April 17, Toonami will move to Saturday night, where it will air from 7pm to midnight. The Toonami block will feature numerous anime series including Gundam Seed and Rave Master as well as Dragon Ball Z, Yu Yu Hakusho, Transformers: Energon, Dragon Ball GT and Rurouni Kenshin; but it will not be all anime, it will also include Cartoon Network original series such as Justice League and Megas XLR. Instead of focusing on the after school needs of 6 to 11 year-olds, Toonami will now be targeted at teens, with the top anime and action series on the Cartoon Network.
Meanwhile, the Meguzi Block, despite its vaguely Japanese name, does not appear to include any anime series. In addition to the Teen Titans and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the afternoon block as currently constituted includes two new animated adventure series, Totally Spies and Code LYOKO. In between the cartoons the Miguzi Block will feature live action segments, and a fantastic undersea environment where the franchise's computer-generated host Erin will hold forth."

I wonder if this means that the shows on Toonami will recieve less editing.
They're airing Animatrix on CN???
From what I've heard, apparantly so. I wonder how much will be cut.
Also, detective conan on ADULT SWIM??? Maybe I'm thinking of the wrong show, but how does this show get on Adult Swim?
Because, it deals with violent (and sometimes quite brutal) murders and other "icky" themes that would otherwise be considered a no no for any other programming block on CN.

All I can say is "Whoooo is the cat in the suit? Whoooooo is the (?) with the beak?"
Harvey Birdman, attourney at Laaaaaaw *cough*
So were you
*person walks by* "Hi!"
The unabooboo.
"Body in a woodchipper..."
"Sit over there! Not there, there. "
"I wonder what that means"
There are too many good lines and funny things in that show... Except the last ep... The last one I saw sucked. The one where he was accused of murder... I hope to see more HB cameos, or even regulars... (and by HB I mean Hannah Barberra, not Harvey Birdman, though I think that's pretty funny anyhow)
That was the best sbow on american Adult Swim...

Wouldn't that be nice.
If only it wasn't on on SATURDAY. That's the worst day to try to watch television. *curses her lack of a DVD player*

That is probably the stupidest move Cartoon Network has ever, EVER done. I mean, sheesh. Although, I am glad that new series are coming on. I wanna see Cold Case (Detective Conan). I also have never seen Animatrix, except for one brutal segment online. How is that gonna pass? I guess we'll find out.

Maybe this time around I'll get to catch Ruroni Kenshin and maybe Inuyasha. Actually, I may be in the minority here, but I'm glad of that move. My schedule doesn't let me watch TV at ALL usually, and even with TiVo, the rest of my family watches TV during the weekday afternoons. But they wouldn't mind letting me record things on a Saturday, and I might actually have time to catch a few shows on Sunday (watching them recorded, that is). I can afford to spend an hour or two on the weekends far more than an hour or two a day trying to keep up with the Toonami block.
But still, I feel for you guys nonetheless. Maybe they will import some new shows to make up for the stinky time change, eh?

I second that. Really, Cartoon Nework has just made a very bad move. Now it's going to take literaly months or even years for a show to finish. And they got rid of the saturday Adult Swim. That was the only Adult Swim I could watch because I usually can't stay up that late.

I don't like this, because it basically means that I won't ever get to see Toonami. I am always doing things Saturday evening. Not only did they take away Toonami, but they replaced it with complete garbage. Oh well...at least there's no mention of He-Man.
Here is my theory about the reason for the change: there are few if any new shows on the proposed lineup, which tells me that they are just trying to stretch their old shows as much as possible. I would much rather see them bring in something new rather than doing this. On top of that, so much of it comes on really late, and I hate staying up that late.
CN...so annoying...

I third that! Though, I don't really care much about the new shows.
*slaps Cartoon Network hard*
IDIOTS! They've totally messed things up, before, but this is just madness! I can't believe I have to wait untill
SATURDAY to see my DBZ! My Yu Yu Hakusho! My Dragonball!
No way!
I remember when they showed DBZ,
Cell Saga (Cell Saga, people! AWESOME!), twice a day on weekdays! And a DBZ marathon on Saturday! *disconnects from reality from all the AWESOME memories* *starryeyed* *glomps Cell*

I agree this stinks. I was just thinking how I would finally get around to trying to watch all the episodes of one of the weekday Toonami shows pretty soon. But now??? Forget it! It would take about 2 years to catch all the eps of something like Kenshin! All I can say is bring on the DVD's from EBay - there goes my budget.

I've hardly ever watched the anime that CN/Toonami puts out. Lightbringer used to tape shows like Tenchi, Zoids, and Gundam Wing for me, though. Until recently, CN wasn't available on my local cable packages - only on satellite. I much prefer DVD anime, especially since hardly any of CN's lineup interests me.

First of all, dont get too excited about the stuff being aired on CN, it will be butchered and we all know it.
Second, wow there are a lot of changes! I won't know what to do anymore, lol. Its cool though that they are bringing new shows on though.

I'm actually glad about this. Never watched Toonami on Weekdays, since that's my Homework/Computer time. Always watched the Saturday stuff, though....so it doesn't really change anything for me.
