What is a fangirl exactly anyway?

I've been reading through a few post tonight and noticed a lot of people complain about how fangirls ruin anime for them and such. What, dare I ask, is the exact definition of a fangirl? Is a fangirl not simply a girl who is a fan of something?

Remember, you can't spell fangirl without fang!
Though, when people refer to fangirls, they're usually referring to
this.

Ah, I see! I thank you kindly for the website! That does sound kind of scary. Though I've talked to plenty of people who identify themselves as fangirls and they didn't seem that bad. I often ponder if I am one. After all, why I usually like all characters in a series I do have ones I like more then others and I do like pairings, canon and fanon. I'm not pyshco about it though. In least I hope not. I don't go crazy about it in least. After all it isn't real. xD

A zombie-like female that tends to be turned into drooling, child-trampling, flesh eating monsters by crazed passion for their vampire love. Often hunt in packs, and they shriek when feeding, which can be heard for miles.
Alternatively, a girl who likes something more than average.

bwahaha! Yeah, they're the reason I'm tired of vampires (or at least, Meyerpires)

NOES Hats, you totally just ruined a life DX
JK love that site, I'm there all day when I get linked...
Fangirls = girls SO obsessed of something, that even if they start to not like it, they still love it, and then love it more. Often the girls don't care about the series, they care for the guys bodies (*Coughtwiharcoughlaughtnercough*)
They can be scary at times as just a mention of a distaste for said series of fandom, will result in a hasty slap...
I learned my lesson for saying Twilight is only average...

A fangirl is someone who will blow your head off if you so much as mention that their favorite character/pairing(usually yaoi)/show isn't so great. They tend to be offended very very easily. They will take attacks against their characters extremely personally.
It's best not to argue with them, because it's sure to devolve into an ad hominem flame fest.

There are two types of fangirls, just like there is with otaku. You have the ones that just love a certain pairing or characters, it's their favorite, but they are completely respectful of others' favorites too, even if they do not like them and talk about how much they don't. Then there's the "vicious fangirls" who's whole world revolves around a particular pairing or character, and if you don't like it, they will attack you relentlessly and suck your blood. O.O

Well said! I never thought of that.

I don't think I've ever met or talked to the second type of scary fangirl then...Oh wait nevermind. I remember I was watching a Cloud/Aerith video on YT once and became involved in a pairing war between Cloud/Tifa and Cloud/Aerith fans. All I was trying to say was that both pairings where equally awesome and people shouldn't argue in such a way over some fictional characters anyway. Everyone should respect everyone else's opinnion. You can all imagine how that went down for me right? One guy, yes guy, acted like everything I said was wrong. I guess he would have been a fanboy then instead of a fangirl. xD

Aerith only liked Cloud because he reminded her of Zack. This is the significance of her saying at the Gold Saucer "I want to meet you." She couldn't love Cloud as long as he was Zack, she wanted to see the real Cloud, but she died before she could meet him. Thus, Aerith never loved Cloud.
On the other hand, Cloud joined SOLDIER to impress Tifa. This is explained in the scene at the well in Niebelheim when they're both children, as well as the flashback to Cloud's childhood in the Lifestream. Cloud was small and weak but liked Tifa and wanted to impress her, so he went to SOLDIER. Tifa also sorta liked Cloud, but didn't know him very well because he was kind of an outcast (plus, since Tifa was injured because of him, her parents didn't want him around her). She also said the line about wanting Cloud to save her if she was ever in trouble.
And let's not forget the night Tifa and Cloud spent together the night before going to the Northern Cave, where it's clear that "something" happened between the two of them, especially when they're on the bridge of the Highwind and Tifa freaks out because she thinks the others saw what her and Cloud did.
And in the Advent Children movie, Zack and Aerith are clearly together. Even after they're dead, those two are an item, further proving all along it was really Zack that Aerith loved, and not Cloud.
Anyone who supports Aerith/Cloud is willfully ignorant of the massive amounts of evidence against it. :3

I don't care. xD I are ignoring stuff then.
I like Zack/Aerith and Cloud/Tifa best, but I am not opposed to Cloud/Aerith. I think it's obvious wither she loved him or not Aerith still had feelings for him of some sort and did have a huge impact on his life.

Aw, I didn't see that part!
Then again I watched a walkthrough on YouTube, I never actully got the chance to play it myself. I must have missed this part.

Depending on how you played the game, you could get various other pairings. I usually just ridicule Aeris and try to get cloud to pair with Tifa. One of these days I'm going to see if I can get the Cloud/Yuffie pair. XD

Cloud/Yuffie is actually kind of cute isn't it? She seems a little to hyper for him to handle though. Lol. I hope I can find the game some day and play it myself!

Koarin from Azumanga Daioh the Animation. They take perfectly good shows and take them down as far as they can, by all stretches of the imagination. They are also bitter and have something against choclate Mousse. Medicine bitter, not dark chocolate bitter...
...now I want chocolate thank-you-very-much. T.T
