Subaru is teaming up with Gainax to make a new anime project, releasing this winter. The project's director is Shoji Saeki, who has worked on FLCL, Mahoromatic, and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, along with fellow Gurren Lagann and Mahoromatic contributor Daisuke Kikuchi on concept art. Character design falls to Mai Otsuka, known for his work on Hanamaru Kindergarten and Shakugan no Shana.

Though this may seem like a Pizza Hut situation, where the sponsor gets their product in every scene for no good reason (see: Code Geass), it's feeling more like a Basquash! scenario. Nike sponsored that anime and the result was an anime about characters playing basketball while riding mecha, while wearing giant Nike shoes, of course.

An anime about Rally racing could be pretty cool...

The official page has a silhouette image of some girls which could the main characters... one of them has a pointy witch hat, so it might be a rather odd racing anime.

I just hope it's not in the same style as panty & stocking.

So ugly...

With Subaru resurrecting their company team using old GC-era Imprezas. Yon green remembered hills...

I'm really curious about what the product tie-in is going to be. I can't picture that cast with STIs or even Outbacks. Their new kei car, maybe?

They actually had some pretty cool concept cars a while back... including one that was a team up with toyota I think. I'm sure they've got some anime worthy stuff that their designers could throw out there for cars that would normally never make it off the drawing board.
