Watched nearly all the episodes... a long time ago ^^;;
From what I remember, KareKano is a very, VERY, introspective anime about a guy and a girl who struggle through their facades and eventually find each other.
I don't think/remember there's much to object about, but in the latter episodes there will be (is this a spoiler??) hint of sexual intercourse between the two still in high school main chars.
It's done very vaguely and quite well handled, but you can tell it happened anyway. Sorta like "The Night" scene between Wolfwood and Milly--though in KareKano it doesn't leave much doubt on what happened.
The anime starts getting, IMHO, TOO deep into the characters to the point you can't tell which is real or not (makers of Evangelion, go figure), but overall it's a funny yet serious and dramatically romantic anime.

Well, I used to love Kare Kano, but as soon as I found out it glorified teenagers having sex, it bothered me to no end. It may seem like such a little thing buried beneath a good (not to mention addictive) series, but I will not buy/watch any more dvds, and I certainly will not buy/read any of the mangas. Not to mention that the anime was often depressing. Kare Kano left a bad taste in my mouth, and a scar on my anime list. But, I have found many other good animes that have taken the place of it. While I know that the "scene" in question wasn't pornographic, or even graphic period, it was still there. And not only that was the attitude and build-up both before and after it. I've read a few reviews written by people who do not hold the standard Christian morals, and even they were bothered by the fact that the characters had sex. That should tell you something right there. But, in short, although that climactic occurrence in the story was only one incident, you really have to ask yourself about the attitude of the rest of the story. I would personally recommend finding something else to watch.

wow. I'm glad others share that same point of view. I complained about the sex scene at the animeondvd forums. I said that the sex scene wasn't needed to show that two people love each other and that sex before marriage is lust. The fireworks sparked. Many people said that the sex scene was the best part of the anime and shouldn't have been edited out. Even some Christians there were supporting premarital sex. ugh.

Premerital sex is wrong but its normal for a non-christian japanese mangaka to add a sex scene to a manga or anime.
Now i didnt say it was right
But it is normal
But dont let that turn you off
there are a TON of movies that have premarital sex scenes.
even ones about teenagers....

I disagree. I would not call it normal for manga and anime to add sex scenes (for I have seen many without), yet it is not rare either. And while we all are aware of the certain state of the media, if you want to scrap a series because of the promotion of premarital sex, more power to you.

I have to agree with Gypsy on this....I would go further...but there really is no need to...it would only seem like a debate.

Ok you are all reading way to far into all of this.
Whole anime is a finding yourself anime. A girl who thinks she's perfect a guy who is but doesn't seem to care. Clash to form a mutual understanding of one another. They then break each other apart learning about each other as much as they can discoving the real them. This is something that should happen in highschool so that people doen't have to do it in college. The obvious objection that most of you find in both the manga and anime is the sexual overtones. Thats called experimenting, I my self am a virgin, but i've come really close to losing it because of times where i questioned certain set morals. I tryed smoking and drinking. Most people I know have gone though all of this stuff. I'm not saying its right, but finding yourself is a progression of mistakes and achievements. So lets say its not sex that girl had a huge issue with pride. She overcame that, as well did the boy with his serious depression and lonelyness complex. Its highschool if you read anymore than that into it then you make these highschool kids out to be damned from the start. I do not support sex before marriage. I am just saying that it mightl happen when you are trying to find yourself. THe manga isn't over yet the author may decide to move the characters forward and discuss the implacations of having had sex after maybe they break up. Having to look back and a mistake and remeber how much of yourself you put into it. Just my thoughts, I really liked the anime and the manga is very well done. I think in both instances they examine a normal highschool life and the pain and joy that they go through trying to find themselves. I recommend this to anyone. If your worried about nudity there is none, if your worried about bad words if there are any they weren't horribly explicit I think one of the girls thats her friends has a bad mouth. THats it. Just my two cents

> I am just saying that it mightl happen when you are trying to find yourself.
Does that, per se, make it a valid way of self-discovery? I think stating that something as personally affecting and potentially dangerous as extramarital sex is a normal portion of forming self-awareness is a very untenable position, and I think you should strongly reconsider it.

I don't think he was taking it that way. It's just something that might happen. He never said it's ok if it happens when you are discovering yourself.
When you're learning to drive you MIGHT kill a pedestrian. Does that make it ok because you were learning how to drive? No, but it's something that COULD happen.
That was his point.

Then I'd like to see that kind of justification. I don't support the presence of such things without the presence of negative consequences for those sorts of actions, and I don't think writing them off as experimentation without the consequences is sufficient.
> THe manga isn't over yet the author may decide to move the characters forward and discuss the implacations of having had sex after maybe they break up.
If this hasn't happened, then how else is the act supposed to be viewed? I would find it difficult to expect that it would be viewed purely neutrally.
All Valid views

I was in a way trying to see where people stand, this is a hot topic and I don't agree with Sex before marriage. Like I said I didn't do it and i'd advise against it. THe psycological ramifications from such actions will cause a few years worth of therapy just to figure out what they might have done. The reason I and I'm sure others write this Pre marital sex issue off so easily is because soicities morals have changed. Christians morals have changed. Absolute truth or the Bible has not. As much as we would like to believe that this is the way things are the more we grow restless because we refuse to believe. Did you know the FCC I think the're called just OKed the F-word on Cable. We should stand against it, however people in general don't see this as wrong anymore. Once again I don't agree with this, but I am not nieve to the reality that is now and the future. I think in this society that believes the way I have just discribed is the world in which His and Hers was made thus as an anime it is innocent. I'm sorry, but the way I see the world and i may be wrong, it is a very innocent show. Look at innocent shows like Cheers, a family show showed a sex addict as the male role modle yet we loved the show the rest were drunks. Just some more mussing. I don't want to offend anyone, but i don't want to come off as someone I'm not. THis is the truth as I see it. Sorry I don't want to offend anyone.

Even so, I don't think I will continue reading the series. I'd rather not have them doing it something I remember reading from the manga series.
"Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is pure, whatever ids lovely, whatever is admirble-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things." ~Phillipians 4:8
I think that everyone has a sort of problem with bad entertainment sometimes and it's hard to do the right thing-I'm glad to have this forum b/c in it I find accountability partners through others' posts

i dont believe in sex before marriage, but bashing the whole series b/c of it is bad. It may have something that some people dont agree w/ but it's still good. I've only seen the first 3 dvds and it's a good story so far. Just b/c you watch something that has a scene or two about sex doesn't mean it not a good series or your not a christian. Sex is part of life, the truth is most people don't wait till marriage, although i agree one should wait. Most people who wrote they didn't like it b/c of the sex scence, but i bet y'all (or most of y'all) watch some kind of teen dramas on tv like O.C, one tree hill, SOAPS etc... Why is it wrong to have a story of 2 teens having sex (which is only an outlined body or brief nudity at most) but sex on shows like the O.C. or other shows are alright? They all glorify sex. Or what about all those animes that have viloence or socery. In conclusion, most of the people who complain are hypocrites to a degree. Everyone has watched something that they know they shouldn't based on moral ideals. It doesn't mean your a bad person for watching it and it doesn't mean you have to go out and have sex. I don't mean to bash anyone at all, but It's just a story!

As I've said in the past (and perhaps even this thread) I do not promote, nor condemn Kare Kano. I gave my reasons for not continuing to buy the dvds or read the manga (a large part of which has to do with the character's ages).
I've often asked myself the same question (although, I have no idea what O.C. is. I don't watch a whole lot of tv) about why in some cases it seems easy to ignore, and other cases it's not. I have no answer. All I know is that I, personally, lost total interest in Kare Kano after I found out what happened and the attitude with which the instance was presented. It may not bother other people, but it did me.
And you're right. It's just a story. Since that's the case, I'm none-the-worse for wear by skipping this one.

Sorry, i guess i didn't read all the threads, but by no means was i trying to start a debate
. I just misread something and started typing. I tend to do that when i only scan articles. And by no means do i believe in premarital sex, i just just refering to other people in general who are wishy-washy on certain topics. Sorry Gypsy for the misunderstanding, i read all the posts and see and agree with what you were saying.

Ugh... I bought this show on ebay and am done with the first 2 dvds... I feel like getting rid of them now! Pre-marital sex IS WRONG. You establish a blood covenant with the 1st person you have sex with and it should take place after marriage. What if she's not the right one? You'll be stuck and sad after showing your love and agreeing to commitment. Ugh.

I watched the whole series and I'll agree that the last half left a bad taste in my mouth. Not only does Yukino and Souichirou's emotional progress take a back seat to adultery, the series portrays this as glorious and transcendental and asks viewers to feel the same.
