Now and Then, Here and There content??

Hey I was wondering if any of you guys have seen this anime. Is there any questionable content in it? I've seen the first two episodes and it seems really neato...It starts out like a kid anime but then gets dark and disturbing. (I thought it was really cool though.) Well anyways I was just wondering if there was any fanservice or crap like that.

Hmm... I have heard this show compared to "Grave of the Fireflies"

I have no idea if there's any fanservice, but it seems to m that there isn't that much, though there are some mature topics, including potentially some sexual ones. I guess I'm not help with a whole lot of maybes, though.

Above is a link to a review site I use frequently. They say it's pretty mature in content, including some attempted rape and violence.

Yeah I just read something about it after I posted it. It says that there's an implied rape and there are some pretty dark torture scenes...Yeah it sounds like primetime TV...Yeah...I was thinking of buying it but I probably won't now...I might watch it sometime though.

DEFINITELY no fanservice....this is a very serious and disturbing anime. imagine how wrong i was when i thought it was a show for kids just because the lead character was a kid. ^^;;

the series deals with quite mature themes such as child slavery, rape, torture, and abortion. it also has a very convincing villain...i remember hating Hamdo with every fiber of my being. ^^;; quite effective, actually.

oh yeah, and the soundtrack's done by Taku Iwasaki (wheeeee! ^_^ ).

plot gets dark indeed.but dark as it may seem, there's somewhat a moral lesson you can get out of it. meaning, watching it is not a waste of time. well, that's just my humble opinion.^_^

It's one of my favorites for the characters alone. Shu is a very real character, he has high hopes, and a very real courage but he still loses. A lot, actually.

Read all the plot synopses elsewhere, I'm here to talk about content. The link that Ms Ashley posted was great, and nails the content to a T (and I use that site often, too ^_^). The violence in it is never to the level of something like Saving Private Ryan, but when it does happen it can be shocking due to the nature of the act, never the actual act of violence itself. It messes with your head, not grosses you out. However despite all this, seeing how Shu reacts always leaves you with some small hint of hope.

The character development is the real gem to this title though. Swordskill was right, I absolutely hated Hamdo as well, and could see no redeeming qualities in him at all. One of the best villains in years, that's for sure. It's a great anime for someone that doesn't want something too "bright and happy" but wants something of a more mature nature. 17+ though, just for the sheer maturity of a lot of the issues.

Hmm... I wonder why people compared the content to "Fireflies" then... That's definately not like "fireflies"

Fireflies is entirely clean, though there is some blood. I guess they could have meant the themes behind it or perhaps that while there is a lot of sexual and violent material in this (but not in "fireflies") there was no fanservice (because "fireflies" has no fanservice)

Actually, reading the reviews made me want to check it out... A series with no fanservice that is dark and serious? Man... It calls out to me!

Yeah I sounds really cool...I don't mind Shu getting tortured and stuff...When I saw that I was like "neato..." Yeah it's just that abortian part that sounds bad...I might borrow it from a freind of mine who owns one or two of the discs (I'm not sure if she owns all of them.)

Yeah I thought it was a kids show until about halfway thruogh the second ep..Something like Digimon...But then I saw Hamdo and that dead cat and I was like...Wait a sec...This is disturbing...I need to watch more!! (I like disturbing but not fanservicy graphic violenceness stuff.) So if you know any shows like that tell me!!

It's a brilliant, brilliant series, but perhaps not for the squemish. It is a very violent show, but that's something that is never trivialized or glosssed over. Better yet, the villains are not just "bad guys", but are really fleshed out. Nor are they simply faceless robots there to be knocked down by the hero. The villains (and the heroes) are presented in a very human way, products of both the brutality that has been inflicted on them, and by the choices that they have made in responding to that brutality. This really is one of the finest series out there.

Don't be to worried about the abortion scene. Like most of the anime the things that are wrong are portrayed that way and not glossed over. In the end I think this anime is all about the hope that Shu has in a world that has forgotten how to hope.

I did however find one not quite redeeming, but might make him less evil, aspect about Hamdo. He is certifiably crazy, and so perhaps not purely evil.

Yeah...It sounds really good. Hey nice pic of Shu you've got for your avatar. Hey it's a 13 episode series right?? Or is there more?? I'm pretty sure that it's 13 eps...But just wanted to make sure.

Shu reminds me a lot of myself, so I figure he makes a pretty good avatar. Now if only I could photoshop a beard onto him he'd be perfect. ;)

And yes, it is only 13 episodes.

Yeah Shu reminds myself of me also...But I look completly different. More like Kaji from Eva...Yeah attitude wide though Shu and me are pretty close (from what I've seen.)
