So this past weekend, the results for the third annual Seiyuu Awards were announced:
Best Lead Actor: Hiroshi Kamiya
Best Lead Actress: Rie Kugimiya
Best Supporting Actors: Kazuhiko Inoue, Tomokazu Sugita
Best Supporting Actresses: Aya Endo, Miyuki Sawashiro
Best New Actors: Nobihiko Okamoto, Yuuki Kaji
Best New Actresses: Kana Asumi, Haruka Tomatsu
Best Singing: Megumi Nakajima
Best Personality: Hiroshi Kamiya
Special Merit: Reiko Mutoh
Merit: Kenji Utsumi, Ichirou Nagai, Kousei Tomita
Synergy: Mari Shimizu, Hisashi Katsuta, Yoko Mizugaki
Kei Tomiyama Award: Kouichi Yamadera
Overseas Fan Choice: Jun Fukuyama
For some context, the top awards went to Jun Fukuyama and Romi Paku the first year, and Miyano Mamoru and Aya Hirano last year.
So time for some opinion. Hiroshi Kamiya definitely deserves it. Most people will probably know him from Honey and Clover as Takemoto. He's also Itoshiki Nozomu from Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Tieria Erde from Gundamoo, and Natsume from Natsume Yuujinchou. Rie Kugimiya... I don't know. Her default tsundere voice isn't exactly endearing, although she has done a really good job with Taiga, but that might be more of good writing.
The standout from new actresses is definitely Haruka Tomatsu, who did Nagi from Kannagi. I guess it's also no surprise that Megumi Nakajima got best singing being Ranka Lee and all. And I really like Miyuki Sawashiro, who did a number of really good supporting roles, particularly the Dorm Leader form Maria+Holic, Tsugumi from Kannagi, Maria from SZS, and a bunch of others. She also did a main character I liked, Shinkuro Kurenai from Kure-nai. She's one of those who can really manipulate her voice.
I think it's interesting that Tomokazu Sugita got awards for best supporting actor, when his most well known-roles were fairly important main characters: Kyon from Haruhi, Yuuichi from Kanon, and Mayama from H&C. And I guess it's hilarious and predictable that Jun Fukuyama is our choice what with his Code Geass antics as Lelouch and such.
