hey how many of you think pokemon has had it's last breath? does anyone have a reason why like DBZ pokemon lost it's popularity sooooooo fast? I think it just got old the same thing over and over and over. wat's your opinion?

Pokemon went out because the plot sucked and the series and episodes were lame (I should know, I liked it about...4 years ago). Heres a list of what was REALLY poor aboot it:
1) The lame end-of-episode morals that they put in "If you love your pokemon they will be stronger than ever", what a load of complete and utter garbage!
2) The fact that pokemon master-in-training Ash never seemed to lose ANY pokemon matches. Even at the start of the series when he fought against people with experienced pokemon!
3) The fact that every character ever seen on the show was mad about pokemon. Footballs popular but not EVERYONE loves it! Its too unrealistic.
4) That stupid Team Rocket. Just them being on the show. James voice was soooo annoying. Jesses voice was also annoying. Just when you thought the episode was getting resonably interesting team rocket would show up with one of their dumba** plans that was bound to fail and ruined the episode. Their team moto sucked. "Team Rocket are blasting off again", how about NO! (This is the main reason I hate pokemon by the way
)
Pikatu and the gang got their credibility back though by appearing on Super Smash Bro Melee and making the game that little bit better. Well done Pikatu I salute you!!!

The last time I checked, they lost popularity when they stopped showing new episodes (at least in the case of DBZ, although I assume that the same is true of Pokemon). That, and little kids started liking them, which is a good way to get older people to avoid a series.
However, did they really lose popularity that fast? They were hot for years, and they are still making a lot of money from their respective franchises. New DBZ and Pokemon game are still coming out, and people are still buying them. I think the more intriguing question is how they lost credibility so fast.

Pokemon was cute...but that doesn't change the fact that it was a pile of poo. It lost credibility when kids grew up and realised they were being sad.

LOL... okay, so I can't argue there. It was one of those some that you had to either be young, or young at heart to love. ^_^

i admit, i liked pokemon for a bit (like in 7th grade). The games are vert entertaining but the show, it's embrassing even to call it an anime. Ash's voice makes me cringe.

I remember liking pokemon when it first came out, when I was in the sixth grade. It was the last show I got to watch before I left for school each day. My friends and I even went to see the first movie together. I think it became too episodic for me. I think Pokemon is really for younger kids.

Pokemon?...in the words of the great Strong Bad, it should be:
DELETED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cute, cuddly, and supposedly demonic. Oh, the irony!

Demonic? No. Because of it's popularity, it caught a lot of flak from some Christians who didn't even bother to research their information. I read several of those articles that were bashing some time ago... It was a good laugh.
(One guy assures at the beggining of his article that it was 'thoroughly researched'... of course without skipping a beat he manged to misspell the name of the very first Pokemon.)

I wasn't suggesting that. I actually played Pokemon in 7th grade...in school...in class...also read Nintendo Powers(laughs). That's why I said "supposedly". And you're right. Some people are that way. To see my basic opinion of people like that, check out my poem"Prolix" in Writing, under "A Peom By Vash". These Pharisitcal wannabes must just hate life in general.

as a person myself who finished all known RPG pokemon games (not those card or pinball, or camera ones) except green and ruby, and watched nearly all ephisodes of first 3 'series' of pokemon shows, and collected over $300 worth of pokemon trading cards (which were fun, then lost it all), i say pokemon 'anime' does suck. real. bad.
sure the pokemons look cute and good and all but... it's not worth it. the plot is terrible. it's even possible to predict what'll happen in that particular ephisode just by looking at the first 5 minutes. everything else is terrible. only thing saving it is... pokemon. other than that, it's just bad.
i admit, i didn't think like above when i was just starting to like pokemon. but views change. now that people who liked pokemon are all grown up (hey, i'm graduating high school this year) they just dislike it. because it is true; it's a children's show, like play school, or sesame street.

I liked the first season of Pokemon. Then it just all went downhill. I will forever love Ponyta and Rapidash, though. Yay for flamin' horsies.
Now Pokemon is just like, "Why won't it die?!"

Hey hey, this darn here message board is christian and not so happy with the Old english "Donkey" word.
I appologise. It's not a particulaly offensive word over here in the UK so I assumed it wasn't in the US either
. Sorry about that.
Some of the pokemon games were good. I liked red, blue and yellow because you could swap to collect all 150 and battle each other. And, (as I've already said), the pokemon are a brilliant addition to super smash bro. melee. I didn't like the other games much though (silver and gold etc..), the companys new pokemon looked like they'd run out of ideas. (Take pokemon like Lugia and that one-legged owl thing. They don't look anywhere near as good as the origionals)

If you're talking about "Dr. Brown's" article, most of his argument was also a "guilty by association" play on things (well, Wizards of the Coast makes it, and they're owned by TSR, who makes D&D which is as evil as it comes
) I also looked into the author's website and other articles which included "Promise Keepers is evil because they let Catholics take part" as well as some other similar type articles.
No-one likes to check sources, esp. my Christian friends who pass on stuff without checking to see if it's right.
Frankly I started watching Pokemon because of the article (to check it for myself, the article looked wrong)... in the end I've become somewhat of a fan (even knew the whole list of Pokemon at one point, till they added tha additional GB carts with the new Pokemon).
Don't watch as much now though..... I've watched the new "Advanced" some (how dumb is that, using the console name in the title).... the stories do tend to get somewhat recycled, but I think they've added a few new things into this one, might take some of the drudgery out of things.

Volt wrote:Hey hey, this darn here message board is christian and not so happy with the Old english "Donkey" word.
I've been reading the Narnia series for the first time... I've been utterly shocked a the language used in those books, being childrens books and the age. I've never once read a person get on Lewis for this, yet they do for other places.
EDIT: I thought about this later... hopefully no-one will think of this as some sort of a rebuke on Volt, just a curious bit of something I thought of.
Volt wrote:And maybe design a desent GAME while they're at it... I mean 10 years of Pokemon and 200 Trashy 5 pixels/inch games later...You'd think that they would come up with something like Final Fantasy? But no. they stick to their 'Pokemon Snap'. and 'Hey you Pikachu' or whatever.
Hey! I liked Snap... I think they need a new one for the GC. I bought it one afternoon pre-owned... took it home and had to call my sister the next morning because I stayed up till 4am playing it and I was late going to her place to visit. And trust me, I was one of those "that is soooo dumb" when it came out type of people.
Volt wrote:Not to mension the countless Pokemone Red, Yellow, blue, gold, silver, orange, black, brown, white, purple, green, baby blue, baby diareah green, etc...
It's getting old. I never played the games tough. I just liked to watch the TV series and buy the Movies.
Like most RPGs of that type, I usually get my butt kicked too quickly, and the random battles while I'm trying to run to the next town (or back to the last) so i can get my stupid pokeballs to the pokecenter.
It would be interesting to see something different though. Much of the audience for Pokemon seems to be a younger crowd though, which is why the games tend to have a younger aim (such as the "Hey You" game and the new "TV" one). I would have been nice if they had done something like Stadium but turned it into a full fledged RPG, here's hoping for the future.

I was never a Pokemon fan (though I admit a particular liking to psyduck--if I ever had a Pokemon, it would be that one) and maybe at points got tired of the cuteness but I was never negative about it. As usual, I think some of my rantings at the "why anime fans hate DBZ" thread would apply here.
I'm also curious about the original jap anime--surely they weren't filled with the mind-numbing dialogue and cliches (the stuff that spew from Team Rockets' mouths for one). I've also glanced at the manga a while back and it didn't seem much different than your average boy-with-super-pet young shonen plot. The anime gets tiring because the makers wanted to sell more episodes and I will confidently say that giving an anime series to be exploited and dubbed will ruin it in the long run.
Yeah, that's my 2 rupiah XD

I don't mean to nitpick, but if I'm not mistaken, Wizards of the Coast owns TSR. WOTC is in turn owned by Hasbro.

I always hated pokemon. Partly because I think its evil and partly because I just used to hate anime. One year my grandparents bought us alot of pokemon stuff. I think we gave it all to my cousin. Now on smash bros I love so smash Pika and Jiggly.

Well, either I got it backwards (which makes the connection to D&D that this guy was making even dumber) or he got it backwards and it shows more-so how little real research he did.
