my anime predictions for 2009

Every year, I make predictions for what I think will happen in the next year. Here are my predicitions:
1. Cartoon Network will air Naruto Shippuden.
2. Cartoon Network will air the Bleach movie Memories of Nobody during the Adult Swim block.
3. Because Warner Bros now owns Viz, expect more Viz titles on Cartoon Network.
4. The live-action Death Note movies will air during the Adult Swim Block, marking the first time a live-action movie has aired during the block (and I hope it's the last.)
5. FUNimation's cable channel will air in more states besides California, Texas, and Hawaii.
6. More streaming anime!
7. Sci-fi channel will add titles from Bandai's back catalog to their Ani-monday block, just like they've done for CPM and Manga Entertainment.

Cartoon Network will air Naruto Shippuden.

They are going to have to hurry up and get it. Since Crunchyroll, Naruto.com, Hulu, and Joost websites will start streaming sub episodes of Naruto Shippuden for free on January 15. Naruto will not end its eps on Cartoon Network untill March.

The live-action Death Note movies will air during the Adult Swim Block

Why would Adult Swim even want to air a live action movie of an anime that did so poorly in ratings on their lineup?

Sci-fi channel will add titles from Bandai's back catalog to their Ani-monday block, just like they've done for CPM and Manga Entertainment.

I wish this would happen. But as of now, Sci Fi Channel only has a deal with Manga and CPM only.

More Viz titles? I doubt it. We're lucky that they still show Bleach.

FUNimation doesn't need more states, it needs to be able in more parts of Texas! My friend two hours away has it, and it's not even possible for me.

Ah don't be stingy! I too like Funimation anime, but I live in a state that in no where does it really offer it. And my computer is just too slow to really stream anime so Im force to buy the stuff. Man I really wish I could get Funimation.

Blah, who needs FUNimation Channel that even if your cable company got it and you would have to pay extra for it. When Funimation has a channel for them on Youtube and Hulu.

Tell you the truth, I would bet that Funimation would do away with their 24/7 channel and just do what ADV's Anime Network did. Anime Network went to VOD, their web sites and used Joost web site to host their channel on the net.

Since they did that and put their anime on the VOD, they have been making money off of it, when they failed with the 24/7 channel.

Time travellers are frequent in these parts, and they bring many a disturbing tale. I've had a great deal of coffee with a pare over the past few days, and a great deal of whisky as well (not together - that's bad for you) so using my fuzzy, fractured memories I have managed to piece together a prediction for the future.

And let's face it, we are all interested in the future, for that is where you and I are going to spend the rest of our lives. And remember my friends, future events such as these will affect you in the future. You are interested in the unknown... the mysterious. The unexplainable. That is why you are here.

And now, for the first time, we are bringing to you, the full story of what happened that fateful year. We are bringing you all the evidence, based only on the secret testimony, of the miserable souls, who survived this terrifying ordeal. The incidents, the places. My friend, we cannot keep this a secret any longer. Let us punish the guilty. Let us reward the innocent. My friend, can your heart stand the shocking facts of...

• The US will get 10 dedicated anime channels in March, and will have lost 12 by May.

• Somehow Spirited Away will get nominated again for an Oscar, and win it again. Anime fans react with indifference.

• Pokémon the Live Action Musical will get released and somehow cause the destruction of Sweden and South Africa.

• Animax, a European dedicated anime channel that broadcasts in continental Europe and Africa will not change it's schedule at all... again.

• Hayao Miyazaki will reveal that he, Steven Spielberg and JJ Abrams are genetically altered clones based on a single ur-Naked Snake Spielberg and are now in control of either the world or Central Park, New York City, through ultra-sophisticated PS3 consoles. Afterwards he disappears mysteriously, leaving Walt Disney to pillage Studio Ghibli in an awesome battle involving giant radioactive ants.

• Star Wars: The Anime, supervised exclusively by George Lucas. Runaway!

• Fullmetal Alchemist gets a bizarre spin-off involving the Roy Mustang character fighting shingami that, 10 years from now, no one would WANT to remember.

• BONES disbands for financial reasons (see point right above) and reforms as a JRock band that will tour the world before forming a new animation studio.

• Satoshi Kon will actually make a movie that everyone can comprehend and enjoy. Amazingly it will cause no destruction of countries.

Here is the biggest anime prediction of the year.

Humans will launch an alien spaceship on February 2009, that crashed ten years earlier. But the party will be crash by another alien race that will start the Space War.

It is to believe that they were mad for not being invited to the party and when they got there, the humans ran out of party favors.

No no, what's going to happen is on New Year's Eve a giant robot will destroy all major cities and spread a virus that will kill a third of the world's population. This disease will be stopped by a band of brave heroes and they will be the ones to thank for bringing humanity into the 21st century.

Also, 20th Century Boys comes out in February.

Then The NFA (Neo-Fangirls of America) will revolt destroying the entire world and our new global leader will be the Bishi known as Sir Prince Sasuke L. Elric Dattebyo Des III and he'll reign over all with his beautiful, but deadly iron fist. I fear for the future my friends. NOT!

ANIME IN 2009

-Rosario+Vampire will have a new series, Capu3, that will be banned in every prefecture of Japan except for Tokyo.
-Ponyo On the Cliff By The Sea will be released in the US and beat out Coraline, Ice Age 3, The Illusionist, and Astro Boy for an Oscar win. Oh, and Gatchaman too.
-Media Blasters will do an anime channel called MB, with almost nothing but anime aimed at fangirls, as well as Genshiken (woo hoo). Also, ADV will bring back the 24-hour Anime Network. These two channels and the FUNimation Channel will FINALLY come to Time Warner Cable around the US. The channel numbers will be 664 (Anime Network), 665 (MB) and 666 (FUNimation). [That's because of the Sojitz fallout!]
-Also, the FUNimation Channel will do a "National Fangirl Day". Every Valentines Day there will be 24 hours of NOTHING but anime pandering to fangirls. In between the shows, pictures of Shaoran Li, Kyo and Yuki Sohma, Mamoru Chiba, Tamaki Suoh, etc are shown with sparkly effects! This day will be hated by everyone, except for those diehard fangirls!
-Oh, and with the WB partnership Viz will stop leaving anime licenses to rot. Ichigo 100% and Full Moon o Sagashite, here we come!
-FUNimation will give ADV's previous licenses back. Also, ADV will pick up Kodocha and release the other 51 episodes.
-Bandai Visual USA will think: "What have we done?! Our Japanese-style pricing scheme is total CR4P! We need to bring the prices down stat!" Now everyone will be able to afford Gunbuster again!
-Oh, and one more thing: CPM will rise back from the dead and re-release Grave of the Fireflies as a 3-Disc 20th Anniversary Edition, with a special "fruit drop can" disc case.

You do know that Bandai Visual USA is no more, right?

We have to wait untill February for that, when the Zentraedi alien race will do that to our earth.

Note: February 2009 is the year in Macross timeline that humans launch SDF-1 Macross into space and the Zentraedi came to start the first Space War.

And in real life, Tokyo is going to have an event to mark fictional launch ceremony in February.

Wow...I didn't know that.

More Predictions:
-With the upcoming merger of Geneon and Universal Entertainment Japan, Geneon USA's remains will be bought by Universal, and Universal and FUNimation, Geneon USA's main distributor, will form a partnership. Then, Media Blasters and Paramount will partner up (MB released DVDs of Nick/Paramount's show Invader Zim), ADV will partner with MGM and resurrect Orion Pictures and Streamline Pictures, and Sony will decide that Aniplex should have a US subsidiary.
-Also, Fox will break up their partnership with 4Kids, sending them into bankruptcy. Consequently, angry One Piece and Shaman King fans will throw bricks at 4Kids' office.

Your too late for that one. It was reported in Nov that Fox and 4Kids partnership would break up and the block ended on December 27. But 4Kids has has a deal with CW Television Network and the block The CW4Kids started on May 24, 2008.

As for Bandai Visual USA, it was announced in May that Bandai Visual USA would be merged into Bandai Entertainment and on July 1, they were absorbed by Bandai Entertainment.
