Last Exile

I did a search to see if anyone has talked about this before. I tried doing a couple advanced searches as well and found nothing. So, I'm not going to assume no one has talked about this series, but I did want to see what other people have thought of the series (which is actually a big reason why I've returned to the board).
I mentioned this in another thread. I'm watching this because of the recommendation of a friend. I trust him, but at the same time I'm curious if anyone else has seen this and what they thought of it if they had.

A quick
search I did on here found a bunch of threads.. Found them by searching "exile" in thread titles.
I haven't seen it yet myself, but we do have a review of it.. You can find that
here. =)

It's an excellent series. Focused more on character development than plot but still very good. Very little objectionable content too.

I was searching for "Last Exile" in quotes when I saw that the word "last" was dropped from the search when I did it out of quotes. Oh well, I never was the brightest light in the shed. Thanks!

Last Exile is one of my all-time favorite series, a brilliant realization of Steampunk style and aesthetics with just the right measure of drama and intrigue. Now if only I could find the first and third volumes I scored for 10 bucks apiece at the Nan Desu Kan but lost sight of shortly thereafter...

I've seen the whole series, and I loved it, mostly! The animation is sharp and pretty, and the smoke/steam effects are amazing. The music is great, and it's rather an original setting if you ask me. Very enjoyable, lots of character development as well as action (yay Vanships!).
The objections I have about the series is that it never takes enough time to explain things enough, so you have to sort of figure things out as the series goes along, and hope you guessed right (not about mechanics of the world, but about motives and things like that). Then there's a scene that I hate, because it seems very out-of-character and doesn't really seem to serve much purpose because no one ever mentions anything like that again.
And, like many animes, the ending is rather weird, unexplained, and slightly unsatisfactory. Not the worst ending I've ever seen, but not the best either.

This is up there in my top ten anime. Probably almost in my top five. It has great animation, compelling character development, (though there are some annoying characters.) It also has very little objectionable content which is awesome.

Awesome! I'm encouraged to hear so many people liked it, and glad to hear it sounds like I'm not just going to waste my time viewing through the series.

I enjoyed the series. The thing that makes a breaks a series for me is usually the characters. If the characters themselves a well rounded anf interesting, then I'll generally enjoy watching the show.
Last Exile has very interesting characters and spends a good deal of time developing them - time other series might have spent on plot. There's a ton of things going on in the world of Last Exile, but the show spends very little time explaining them to you. So, if you are thype that needs nearly every plot thread and loose end tied by the end of the series, you may be a bit disappointed.
Either way, it was a fun ride, but the ending could use a little work.

I agree with termyt, the characters are well developed and interesting. Lavi is one of m favourite characters, although I didn't like Alex. It's a very beautiful anime and the world they live in is well portrayed.

Love it. Gonzo's art and mixed animation is awesome, though I share Gene's opinion of Alex. XD The guy really hit the limit for cliche angsty, dark, never-says-a-word anime dude with a guilt-ridden past. Really, he slipped so far into personal angst that he was a rather disfunctional captain.
Dio's hillarious. XD

I think that was the whole point. Alex was meant to be a cliche, wasn't he?
Loved his sword gun!

Last Exile was one of the first anime I got into. Very good plot and character development, but ending wasn't satisfactory for me. I highly recomend it.

The ending is pretty open-ended but unlike many anime it's a happy ending.

My whole problem with Alex is that he never changes from the description so adequately given by USSRGirl. Almost every other character undergoes some growth and development, but not him. I suppose this was intended, but still...
Dio and Luciola (sp?) are awesome. I actually liked the ending well enough.

Mullin Shetland was my favorite. I picture myself being like him - not terribly aware of all of the stuff going on around him (not due to lack of intelligence, more just not being in the loop). Unsure of whether to be proud or ashamed of his military career but very terrified by it all but doing his duty to the best of his ability showing he is among the bravest in the cast.
Dunya was a good match for him.

That is Mullen in the last episode with Dunya right? It kinda bothers me because it doesn't explain how he got out of the situation he was in earlier (I can't remember at the moment how to do spoiler tags, but anyone who's seen the series knows what I'm talking about.)

Excellent series and I highly recommended it to almost anyone. Its a nice title in that you don't any sex, blatant themes, and or much language. Great ending too!

I think my favorite characters were Dio and Maestro Delphine. Awesome, crazy, and freaky all at the same time ^_^

Man. This series is amazing so far. I'm not very far into it . . . but I've been swept away already.
I have to say I LOVE the muted colors. (I'm working on a project with a friend, and he's using a similar muted color palette. Seeing it work here, I'm kind of excited to see what he does.)
Already there's been a few surpises. I've been trying to stay away from spoiling it -- so I don't know exactly where the story is going . . . which is fine by me. I'm ready to go where they take me.
