The End of Evangelion

Hmmmm....
I actually decided to see EOE first, instead of seeing the Series ending. I had heard the series ending was completely and utterlly horrible....
I have mixed feelings on EOE. The last 40 minutes are completely abstract. Now, part of me looks at these last minutes as pure brilliance, and the other part of me looks at it as a middle finger to the fans.
Thoughts?

You should watch it first.

An EOE thread... just nice. I have no interest in watching NGE... ever. I have the first DVD of Rah Xephon and, unless it gets worse from the amount of language I heard from the first, intend to buy the whole series.
Now this thread should be closed today... so not worth talking about EOE that much. Reading from what Bob and the others that actually saw that movie said about it was enough for me. I like mecha anime but I just wouldn't stand at best *that one part in EOE* and knowing that the creator went into a mental breakdown because of the anime... even for curiousity's sake I wouldn't watch it.

Yeah it's all funky and stuffs. I feel like you should at least try to watch it once. And then when it's over stare at the screen as if somehow it'll magically make sense. Nothing like that feeling of cluelessness.
Rahxephon rules by the way.

Well, since I'm sure you don't know, Machinehead, here's how it is. A number of times members have started threads in some aspect of NGE, and every one to my knowledge has had to be closed because of people bickering. There are apparently only two kinds of people, those who love NGE and those who hate it. So, while there's no offense intended to you, it's a road we've gone down many a time and if you want to see what happened, you might check out the search engine and search for NGE.

Just so that you'll know, what I said is what Ink said (if that makes sense). I wouldn't say I don't like it, because I haven't seen it. It is the same with hentai (and I am not calling NGE hentai!!!), I am not going to watch because of its subject. There are more anime that suits my taste to watch.

Oh, alright. I know alot of bad things have been said about it, but you cant really judge it until you watch it....

I've been thinking of getting NGE for awhile. I don't realy have any desire to see EOE because of what I've heard. After I get NGE and see if I like it, I might check out EOE, but for now I don't know.

I wouldn't watch it partly because if my mom found out I would be dead and also because I just don't like the premise of the series.

Why do I think this thread will be closed very soon? The EoE. . .yeeew. . .if that's allowed to be discussed here, I smell a slight double standard for some other things that are forbidden. ^confused^

Oh boy, another NGE or EOE thread. *eye roll* I won't even bother commenting on the series or the movie...as it is well documented on CAA how I feel about it. Use of the search feature is a wonderful thing....but I would like to comment on the statement, "You don't know about somthing till you watch it" Now I am going out on a limb here....taking it to an extreme. But would I need to watch a video of a cat being put in a blender to know it would be nasty? Also, Millyfan....the double standard comments are starting to personally annoy me. If you "hate"(hate in that every single chance you get you try to cause arguements or fighting) this site so much why stay? Anyway, please folks....use the search feature...if a topic has been locked like 10 times....been hashed over...why bring it up?

True True
Despite people hearing things about how "horrible it is" "omg, it's full of graphic images!" it's really a really deep intellectual show. Not something to be understood the first viewing. And the graphics are really NOT that bad. There are few things insinuated off screen and blood. EoE is the beefed up rated R version. If you think the series is bad, don't watch the movie. More blood, more graphic imagery.
I liked the concept of EoE; it's not something that can really just be shown. If you're going to show the world coming to an end, it's not really easy to SHOW. You have to use metaphors and references. Which is what EoE is all about at the end. People are like "WTF was that!?" after watching the end. You have to go back and try to understand what each piece references.
It's not something easily explained

Just a comment about new people...
Not everyone uses the search features to read EVERY SINGLE TOPIC that's ever been on a message board. Most people don't have time for that. Most people who come to places just... well, will want to dive in and have fun.. maybe read two or three of the latest topics first, but... come on... who has come here and done a search through every single past post? Or every post ever made about any particular anime? (Not counting lesser-known animes/animes that don't have a large fanbase). *Thinking that I have probably read every Haibane Renmei topic here that I didn't myself start.. which is like... 2, maybe 3?*
Those closed post have gone down in pages... newbies don't generally even see them, and if a new person comes along here who likes Evangelion wants to ask a question (perhaps in search of other fans to discuss it with) or who wants to start a discussion and is UNKNOWNING of all the posts in the past about... why jump on them?
When I first came here... I saw not a single topic on Evangelion... not a one (because all the old closed threads were bumped down, and no, I have not read them, save for perhaps one). I didn't start any threads discussing Eva in particular because, well, though I liked it, I have others that I like better and I think it's overated, anyway, and.. I figured that, being a Christian board, that most people would be uptight about it/dislike the series. (I'm a Chrstian and I liked Eva, and I know others, but it's a series that most Christians really hate)... so.. I had to make that assumption that it's not a good topic to start as a newbie...
But.. not all newbies are knowledgeable about these things and people don't bother to read archived locked threads.
My suggestion to relieve further tension... perhaps make a sticky list of "Animes Please Not To Disscuss Here" . List these animes, and place why they aren't to be topiced on. I think it's a bit of stifling of free speach, but if you are polite about it and ask people to "Please dont' disscuss these titles" or "Please be very careful in disscussing these titles" or "You my discuss these titles, but please do not promote them becasue..."
Eva can be on there because "Dissucssion of NGE has caused too much tension and too many flamewars on this particular board." Gravitation "Because it promotes a homosexual lifestyle". Angel Sanctuary "because it contains an overwhelming amount of blasphmey." Ect.
Just my two cents.

Well, I would think people would be mature enough on a Christian Board not to flame eachother over an anime. `.'
I KNOW it's contrivorsal.

People usually are mature enough not to flame. It's just that... tensions do rise over this title, and sometimes, we do get trolls who come in just to try to get people into fights. We are all human... we don't always control our tempers.. I know I have a lot of trouble with it and have gotten slightly flamey at times...

You do know there is a database search engine that'll look for keywords for you, right? You don't have to page through every single thread to find what you're looking for (however, there is a 4 character limit to the engine that won't allow searches for terms like "NGE" though
hint, hint, Straylight )
I do agree that it might be a good idea to have a thread (maybe a locked one for the admins to post only) on some of the more contriversal Animes with links to threads that exist on why they're subjects that are best not brought up.

I'm not trying to start an argument here, im just expressing my opinion. I think it's a great anime, and I, in no way believe it "mocks" Christianity. The entire show is about finding a higher existence, or trying to become higher than that existence.
To sum it up, the show is pretty much following the Garden of Eden.
I would only suggest it if you are a mature Christian that can handle it, however.

Can I ask why everyones arguing. It seems a bit pointless to me, can't we just except, as mature christians, that some people like NGE and some don't.
If someone asks a simple question about it don't you think its a bit unfair for the 'rivals' to start having arguements and flaming each other inside the thread?
Pesonally I enjoy NGE, but I respect everyone elses opinion on it.

I haven't seen NGE, and I think that makes me the correct choice to do this: I'm locking this thread. The reason is quite simple: we've been over NGE before. Many times. Every time (and I wish to emphasize that, and add that most topics that touch on NGE have as well) it has been discussed, it has become an argument.
Due to this, it has been determined that the topic is basically nill, excepting certain situations in which multiple fans can discuss it. The idea of a list of unmentionable animes is being discussed at this time.
Also, the show is more violent than we want to directly support (though a number of the staff members are pro-NGE) for younger members. So this is another reason that we've decided to leave the topic alone.
Personally, I generally do a search on an anime before starting a new topic. It isn't very likely to be unique, as is forum has enough threads and members that someone likely brought it up before.
In any case, this thread is taking us nowhere, though the initial premise could have. Machinehead, you know the other NGE fans here (also LorentzForce), speak with them via PM. No one should be upset that way.
