Ah! My Goddess

I was wondering if anyone had seen this anime? As with most of my posts about anime's you all know the drill: Language, Nudity, Sexual Situations, Violence, Innuendo, etc.? I know there are two seasons and an OVA.

I know that CAA has already reviewed the OVA so I just want to know about the first and second seasons. Thanks in advance! ^_^

An incredibly cute love story, and a pretty good comedy. To answer your actual question, though:

The OVA and the First Season both start at the beginning of the manga, with the TV series adhering a little closer to the original story. However, both share with the manga the same degree of mild sexual content, mostly humorous. The primary love story is a love story, not a sex story. You do have an unmarried man and woman living together, but in separate bedrooms (with a jealous little sister enforcing chastity). A lot of the humor depends on making you think the scene is about to turn crude, and then skewing off some other direction.

In short, mild. Sex is a topic, but not featured. Religious content is pretty much too confused to explain (it's such a mish-mash of Shintoism, Buddhism, Christianity and various mythologies, particularly Norse, that it would be impossible to claim they are actually supporting any particular religion, but by definition the result has to be characterized as 'Bad Religion' in CAA terms.) Some of the female characters have a definite fanservice character, but not over-the-top like so many newer titles. Language is rarely a concern.

I can't say much about the second season; I've only seen a couple episodes. It looked like they would stick to the same sort of content, though.

I've seen the whole first season in English. Very little swearing and sex/nudity. There are some fan-servicy characters, but you'll like them more for their character. I think there was only one rather uncomfortable scene out of the whole thing and it gets interrupted before anything happens. The male character is actually the innocent party here, heh.

I thought there were three seasons?

Anyway, I love this series! I've only seen the first season though but I thought it was quite funny and entertaining. One of my favorite series. I plan on getting the second season once they're all released in like a thin pack or whatever (and I could have sworn there was a third season too but maybe it was just wishful thinking). But the first season is fantastic and fairly clean. Although as already noted there is some mild humorous sexual content but it never goes above PG level.

My brother saw the second season and he said its better/funnier than the first though he didn't say anything about it content wise... but I would think it would be pretty much the same.

And don't forget there's also The Adventures of the Mini-Goddess which is sort of a spin-off of AMG.The Adventures of the Mini-Goddess is divided into the following:The Belldandy Files,The Urd Files,The Skuld Files and I think also one that features their pet rat.Basically though unlike AMG
Keiichi isn't the main character and Belldandy is just there to get her sisters out of trouble.I have The Belldandy Files.I also have the first two volumes of the first season of AMG.Very good.

Wanted to add a history comment:

The anime (including the OAV and the movie) are relatively recent, but the AMG (or OMG) manga franchise is very old, and younger members might be interested to know that it bears at least some credit for kicking off the Manga market in the US. AMG/OMG was being published in this country by Dark Horse Comics not as 'Graphic Novels' but American-format monthly comic books, years before B&N or Borders ever had a Manga shelf.

I don't seem to have any of these anymore, although I was able to find one of my old Patlabor monthlies recently (they did several titles around the same time.)

Dark Horse has long since been eclipsed as a Manga publisher, but they do still publish OMG and Blade of the Immortal (now as Graphic Novels rather than American comic books) and a few other titles.

Mitsuki Lover is awfully well versed in a series revolving around a completely sub-servant dream wife.

I like to think of it more as a series about a guy who is fortunate his GF loves him, because she could kick his sorry mortal butt any time she felt like it... of course, if she did, it would just turn the series into Urusei Yatsura.

Anyway, I'm not sure 'subservient' is a fair characterization. More like, 'sweet-tempered beyond belief'.

Yep Ive seen it, and yes I did enjoy it. There weren't many bad things in it. I mean there may have been a few references and some language like the D word, but this anime is mostly on the up and up.

As a matter of fact Keiichi and Belldandy are placed together because of an accidental wish that Keiichi makes in episode 2.

Belldandy doesn't strike me as a "subservient dream wife" either. To me at least, it's clear that she will be likely to leave Keiichi if she feels that he doesn't deserve her anymore. She's actually a fresh whiff of air to me, standing among the mainstream crowd of overbearing female leads who do nothing more than annoy and/or physically abuse the male lead.

Wow, thanks everyone for the informative responses to the show! These will most definitely help me out on whether I wish to watch this series or not. :)

Belldandy had the chance of leaving Keiichi like 3 times already, but from what Ive seen she doesn't seem to be the type to leave without a good reason. And Keiichi doesn't seem the kind to just push Belldandy aside and say he has no love or use for her. So I seriously doubt that they would ever separate, at least that is untill Keiichi, being a human, dies. And Belldandy either then goes back to heaven or stays on earth. But wouldn't she need another contract to stay on earth?
