Reported from ANN

ANN wrote:The exhibitor notes for the Tokyo International Fair lists an "Appleseed: Genesis" stage event on March 30, the last public day of the fair. According to the notes, Micott & Basara, one of the production companies behind the computer-graphics (CG) Appleseed films, will discuss Masamune Shirow's original future police manga work and the production of a television series. The television series will have "the genius of the 3D CG world, Romanov Higa" directing. Higa directed 2003's Urda net anime video series, 2006's TANK S.W.A.T. 01 (the Shirow-inspired video pictured at right), and 2006's Catblue: Dynamite net anime video series. The 5:30 p.m. event is set to reveal the story, voice cast, and character designs, as well as hold a discussion with the director and main cast. Higa and popular voice actress Romi Paku (Fullmetal Alchemist's Ed, NANA anime's Nana Osaki) are scheduled to appear. The television series was originally announced in 2005, after the first Appleseed film opened, and previously described as a 26-episode series scheduled for 2006.

Sounds great. I've been waiting for Appleseed: Genesis since I watched Ex Machina last weekend. And Romanovu Higa sounds like a great director for A:G (cuz I watched Urda: Third Reich and I will review it in the future).

Only question: Who's gonna license it? Since Geneon, the original distributor of the 1st movie, went bankrupt, I'm deciding on ADV.

Which of course means that if it ever gets Stateside it probably won't be until some time around 2010 or 2011 at the earliest.
