Anyone watch s-CRY-ed?

[Obligatory "s-CRY-ed is awesome" Statement]
Straight Cougar is the coolest character in the history of Anime.
Another notable character is Urizane. Who knew Watermelons could be so much fun?
Unfortunately, I only have the middle out of the series...
Opinions?

I honestly didn't really enjoy the series. It felt confusing and forced, and there never seemed to be a real resolution to major portions of the storyline.

I watched it back when they showed it on Adult Swim. I thought it was...mediocre. Maybe it just wasn't my kind of show, but the plot seemed to have a lot of holes and the ending wasn't satisfying. Also, some of the characters got on my nerves. So yeah, not my favorite. XD

In all honesty, I really didn't like this series. It had it's few moments, but it was just so confusing to follow, and the main character, Kazuma, is your typical, genki, "I WANT A FIGHT AND I'M NOT AFRAID TO SCREAM FOR IT!" lead.
If I can find the DVD's for cheap somewhere, I MIGHT be tempted to give it another shot...

I didn't find it that hard to understand.I thought it was rather straight forward myself.

As did I, which was my problem with it. Pretty much everything about the show had already been done many times over and many times better.

I find that this is one of those animes that not a lot of people like and that a lot of people hate/dislike for varying reasons.
I however, am one of the first. I liked it! Cougar was hilarious. And darn it, I liked Kazuma. Oh well.

I would tolerate S-Cry-Ed if Kazuma DIDN'T FREAKING SCREAM EVERY TIME HE LAUNCHED AN ATTACK!!!
((Sorry for the caps, but it's true!))

I was actually, originally really looking forward to seeing the series, after reading a breakdown in a Newtype magazine of the charachters, setting and general plot of some of the series, but I feel they really squandered what they had going... especially the power up situations and the influince of the land, as well as the charachters. The first few episodes really seemed good... but it really didn't live up to my expectations.

I share your opinion whole-heartedly.
Well, I have all but the last 4 episodes now, and it looks great.
From the looks of this thread though, it seems that I have bad taste in anime compared to most everyone else. Ah, well... It still ranks in the top 3 on my list, and I'm content with that.

I thought it was pretty good, but not necessarily the best that AS has dished out. I liked Samurai Champloo more though.

I don't care about the series one bit.
The story was forced and confusing and the ending was crappy, that is if you even call that an ending.

I'm still amazed how a young girl...

All these posts prove what I said earlier. You either love it, or you don't. Its one of those things. You can't be in between (well maybe you can, but I don't know anyone who is).
The fans of s-CRY-ed is a minority, but rocklobster, I am proud to be in this minority. It gives me individuality, and just because the majority hates it, doesn't mean we are stupid for watching it, nor does it mean the show itself is stupid... it simply means everyone else doesn't have as good of taste as we do!
Ok, I was just kidding on that last statement, but being a minority isn't bad. As it stands today, Christians are in the minority in today's society. True Christians, that is.
But anyway, despite what others say, I like s-CRY-ed, and though I'll never read the manga because of its pornographic art throughout, I shall always enjoy the anime series for what it is.

I hear the manga is....quite....fanservicy...and...perverted.. >_>
I guess i should say, i didn't HATE this series...it was OKAY...I just wish things would have been explained better and the storyline a little more defined and stuff.
I liked several of the characters, but I judge a lot of how much I like a series by the way it ends...this didn't emd well in my opinion.

It's very unfortunate, but I can actually attest for this (though only because I looked at it out of curiosity sake). Thankfully the artist does seem to value his story, cuz I actually counted more "safe" zones than not in the few volumes I did see (I never got to read volume five), but otherwise? Ya...while the fanservice definitely doesn't happen every chapter or anything, unfortunately it tends to stick out when you see it. Example?
One chapter will show a girl looking totally normal, like everyone else, another chapter? Suddenly she'll have very unrealistic porportions and you know this will be the chapter he uses her for fanservice. The best way to describe it is to explain the volumes. Volume one had a really sleazy and questionable villian (I can't tell if that's her top attire or actually her...*ahem* ._.; ), volume two really didn't have anything, and volumes three and four? Well this is what I'm talking about.
Pretty much most of the chapters in volumes three and four were clean. The only time they weren't? I think it was like...two chapters in each. Now while you may say "well that sounds good", sadly it's not. If I remember right, one of those pervy chapters really wasn't perverted at all...it was like one panel in that chapter and everything else was clean. So why does it stick out? Because this guy doesn't drawn Sailor Moon nudity, his chicks have detailed upper portions. To put it simply, he didn't spend that chapter on big boobs and panty shots, he just went in for the kill and gave you one nice detailed shot of her exposed breasts and that was it...and trust me, it does make up for it if you're into that stuff.
As for those other two chapters I mentioned? Perhaps I'm forgetting other moments of fanservice, but I don't think so...either way those chapters didn't have the full frontal nudity, but to make up for it, the big boobs and panty shots were there. So you see what I mean? It's not like every chapter even focuses on the stuff, its just when he does add fanservice IT REALLY STICKS OUT. *sigh*
Real shame too, because I know my boyfriend loves Scryed. I mean, he says he only reads it for the story, and I do believe him considering the circumstances he came upon the manga, but still...I do wish the guy who made it wasn't such a freaking perv. Either that or I wish he just wouldn't cater to the audiences. Like I said above, volumes one and two weren't as bad, I almost wonder if he just added the other stuff to gain fanbase.
*shakes head and sweatdrops* Erm, but sorry for that rant. I just noticed nobody has ever seemed to actually talk about the manga in the sense of reading some of it, so I thought I should at least give an idea to those who were curious. ^^;
But as for my opinion on the anime...it's not too bad. I love many American comic books in general and again so does my boyfriend, so I think that's why were attracted to it. It does seem to lean closer to that side of things than most anime stuff does. ^^; I also can't lie, Kazuma and Kanami's relationship is very cute...doesn't help he's got the Steve Blum voice in the English version. XD *fangirl moment*

::is starting to get the idea on just why Kitchan loved Eureka Seven so much:: I think I may have said it before, but what the heck... Scryed had an all-star English cast, and BEAUTIFUL animation, but it didn't really hold my attention.

It was probably for the nudity. Like I said, it's just one image (not to mention just the top half of the body) but he definitely draws his naked women like real naked women. That's probably what got it plastic wrapped.
I think the worst part about that situation is what the manga was rated though. 14+? 14+?! I believe one and two are 11+, but in the others? The ones where stuff really pops up? If this was a movie it'd definitely been rated higher than that. Just goes to show how they'll lower the age ratings to sell stuff.

welll, being a girl, TASTEFUL female nudity doesn't bother me...(I have seen a lot being an artist and having art classes, probably not as much as some other artists have...) but it has to have a purpose, and not be...overdone or just thrown in there >_>
And yeah, that rating system is screwed up...
~~~
Socks--- XD I guess it wouldn't be helping my case to say that Holland is actually my favorite character? ._. (its not only because of...¦D it's also because of his SERIOUS Character change... TAlho comes next, because she changes A LOT as well..
XD I also like Moondoggie and I don't even know who his voice is...although his way of dressing kinda reminds me of Brendan, so that's probably why...(also if Moondoggie weren't so perfverted his personality KINDA resembles Brendan's too.)
>_> yahhh...
I thought the voice acting was superior to Death Note.Though that could be said about just about any other anime on AS.
Interesting bit of type casting but has anyone else noticed that the same VA that did Commander Jagmar on S-cyr-ed is also the same one who is currently doing the voice of the Commander of DATS on Digimon:Data Squad?
