Hi all, it's Morwen, coming out of lurk-mode again. ^^ I just found out that the screening schedule for Paprika is released. You can find it here: http://www.campuscircle.net/image/paprikars.htm

Has anyone in California or New York caught some of the other screenings yet? Can anyone give a summary of the content? I rarely go to see R-rated films, but I REALLY want to see this if it's something I can handle/justify to my parents. ^^;

Me too. This isn't an anime I'm greatly anticipating, yet.

No where near me that is. *sighs* Will I ever see one anime film in the theater? Although, I would have to watch it...in...ENGLISH! DUN DUN DUN! XD

Actually, Paprika's being released as a sub. XD; Which is a LITTLE disappointing to me, I'm a dub fan, but...I like subs fine, too.

I must inquire as to why. It got a 96% on Rottentomatoes.com, directed by Satoshi Kon, and probably includes some of the best cinematography and art out of most anime movies out there.

I will see this without a doubt. I heard incredible things about it, and I am a major Satoshi Kon fan; so I will not pass on Paprika. XD Satoshi Kon is by far the best director in the field. I find him better than Miyazaki in just about every possible manner.

And here is something to chew on.

quoted from ANN wrote:Satoshi Kon's Paprika, which opened on Friday, May 25 on two screens in New York City, took in an estimated US$35,600 from Friday to Sunday, and a total of US$45,600 over the four-day weekend. These figures give Paprika the second-best per-screen average for either period, after Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. For comparison, Kon's Perfect Blue took in US$9,600 (on one screen) in its US opening weekend, while Millennium Actress brought in US$18,732 (six screens). The opening-weekend gross of Tokyo Godfathers was US$37,127, but that film opened in eight theaters. Source: Box Office Mojo

Well I guess it's about time for this announcement....unfortunately I already got a peek at a fansub....I like Satoshi Kon, but this was just ok. No big deal. The animation is fantastic! Don't get me wrong, but not much happens and the story drags.

It all looks nice though, even whimsical. Most of the characters figure out plot points like a half hour after the viewer.

There is a brief scene of nudity, and homosexuality is mentioned. I would assume the R Rating is for that and some bizarre/grotesque imagery. None of this is the point of the story, and honestly these are minor things that don't take up much time of the movie.

So IMHO go watch Paranoia Agent again, leave Paprika in the spice rack.

No way! The puns are the reason I'm reading this thread :lol:

Well, that and Paprika's playing one town over from me in July. Might as well check it out.
