Wow... I just... wow.
Excuse me for the odd introduction, but this Anime film has quite literally left me speechless in words to describe it.
Night on the Galactic Railroad, known in Japanese as "Ginga Tesudo no Yoru" was a classic novel written by the famous writer Keniji Miyazawa that was first published in 1934. In 1985, an anime was made based upon the novel.
The story is about a boy (or in the anime, a cat) named Giovanni. He lives with a poor family and works very hard to take care of his sick mother. He also has a very kind friend named Campanella. One day the city they live in his has a large festival, where Giovanni meets one of his classmates Zanelli. He makes fun of him which causes him to run to the festival, but he suddenly realizes he's wasted too much time and needs to come back home to attend to his mother. On his way home, he decides to take a rest by a small hill. Suddenly he hears a strange sound and in a flash of light a train appears in front of him. He also sees that his friend Campanella is there on the train, and he decides to join him.
The train, however, is not connected to rails. In stead, it flies off into space. And on their journey, the two characters discover many things and meet some very interesting people.
I myself haven't seen the film yet, but from the few clips I've been able to see, I'm more then fascinated. I also plan to read the original book too.
Also, Christians should take note that a certain symbol to our religion makes an appearance, I don't want say it just yet, but I quite possibly think our religion is a major theme in the story.
Various scenes from the film. [Possible spoilers]
