Okay...this is the first thread i've started on this account (i was formerly Shugo)...I searched for threads like this and none came up soooo...lets get started...

Well starting with a mainstream anime, Naruto....I was really annoyed when i heard Naruto's voice and that stupid phrase: "Believe It"...It drove me crazy and i had a hard time watching it...but i got used to it and I'm not as annoyed.

Moving on to a short but good series: .Hack//Legend of the Twilight...When i watched the first episode (after reading the manga) I heard Rena's voice and i wanted to scream....IT WAS THE MOST ANNOYING VOICE I EVER HEARD...well either the voice gets less annoying or i got used to it...anyways they should've gotten some other voice

WELL POST THE MOST ANNOYING ANIME VOICES YOU'VE EVER HEARD!!!

the DBZ dragon voices were so annoying to me...
I think it would be better if they just used Sean Connery.

Hmm...I'd have to say that despite the fact that Azumanga Daioh has to be my fave anime series, when Jessica Boone tries doing little girl voices, it can get kind of annoying. From that standpoint, the original voice of Chiyo is much better...and cuter.

Ha ha i don't mind them that much, but hearing Sean Connery as a dragon would definitely be "powerful"...i wouldn't mind getting wishes from that kind of dragon

Yeah i read the whole Azumanga Daioh series (all 4 books, one for each year of high school) and i was sad when it was all over, i never watched any of it in english but i watched the subbed ones in Japanese on Youtube...god bless youtube.

I actually really disliked Misao's voice in the Rurouni Kenshin anime. XD Most of the time, she was tolerable, but there were times when she just screamed and screeched, and forced me to temporarily switch to subtitles using the remote control. XD

I can't really think of anything else...I mean, there are FAR worse dubs than Rurouni Kenshin (I actually prefer Kenshin's dub to its sub), but Misao's voice is one that I can remember really grating on my nerves. XD

As much as I loooove Rurouni Kenshin...there are a lot of times when Kaoru's voice just grates on my ears. "Kenshiiin, Kenshiiin." Gahhh..shuttup!! XD I think it's just because I watched the show A LOT and I have just heard the voices too much.

In Inuyasha, it's not so much the voices that annoy me as the dialogue. Like how repetitive they are when they speak:
Kogome: I found a Shard!
Inuyasha: Kogome, you really see one!
Kogome: Yeah I see the shard!
Shippo: Hey everyone! Kogome found the shard!
Sango: Really!?
Miroku: That's great! where is it!!

=_=;

umm... I don't like it when they give almost all high school girls high pitched voices. Like Orihime, and some of the Azumangadaioh girls.. not all girls have such high pitched squeaky voices! arrhhhg...

yeahh that's all I will list from the English side. XD

There are some japanese voices that gratte on my nerves too..

XDD FTW. That's so true. XD

Just remember, don't use this thread to bash voice actors. They are people too, you know and its not right for us christians to bash someone.

I'm not saying anyone has, but I just don't want to see that happening.

I agree with RD about Misao's voice, she was tolerable until she started to yell. I also hated MidBoss' voice from Disgaea, it was so much better in Japanese.

I know we aren't supposed to bash the One Piece bud, but....

I dont think much needs to be said.
Enough is implied.

In Gundam Wing Endless Waltz Duo's voice was annoying and didnt suit him at all.

Azumanga Daioh: Chiyo-chan.(it's not my least favorite voice I've ever heard, but.....)
One Piece: Everyone!
Yu-Gi-Oh!: Almost everyone.
One Piece, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Sailor Moon, and Pokemon(especially in the newer episodes) were all horribly dubbed.(Seriously; watching the Sailor Moon R movie dubbed on the uncut DVDs is HILARIOUS!)

I also agree that dubbed Chiyo-chan's voice wasn't all that great.

::gives Kitchan 10 Cool Points:: Nuff Said!

Now, as you all know, I really like the Evangelion series--what I did NOT like, was the Directors Cut when they replaced Jason Lee (voice of Aoba) with Vic Mignona (YES! I SPELLED IT!). Don't get me wrong, he is a GREAT V/A and from what I heard, a very cool guy...BUT...that role was NOT for him! Everytime I heard him say a line, I found myself thinking:

Inside Sock's Head... wrote: Gee, I wonder where's Alphonse?

Ha ha yeah I know...it sounds like something is stuck in his throat, i'm not tryin to bash the voice actor...but i bet the voice actor doesn't even sound close to that in real life and he had to go out of the way to do that bad voice...lol

Illyasviel von Einzbern (Fate/Stay Night) - GRATING LOLI VOICE.

Laharl and Flonne (Disgaea) - Meeeeeeeh, no. Flonne's sweet and sugarly voice torments me, and Laharl comes off as just another standard "Young anti-hero" voice.

Mikuru Asahina (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya) - Not a fan of the original Japanese voice, nor the American counterpart which seems to be verbatim from the trailers.

Yakushiji Tenzen (Basilisk) - occasionally sounds like a radio announcer. "But wait! I thought that was your name!"

Having recently watched the dubbed Escaflowne movie, I can say with full certainty that Hitomi's voice was HORRIBLE. Whenever she'd say something that was supposed to be wonderfully dramatic or filled with emotion like, "No, Van. I...I want to be with you." I would start laughing. And it was supposed to be a touching/sad moment!
I haven't actually watched that many animes' dubbed versions (and usually the Japanese voices are better anyway), but usually minor characters in animes have the most annoying or poorly-acted voices. Thankfully, you don't have to put up with them for long. The main one that's coming to mind is Elisa in Episodes 11-12. Her English voice sounds like she's always on the verge of coughing. I can understand why that would be (the character has a chronic cough), but it got irritating after a while.

I never understand how people can say that. Do you speak Japanese? How do you know if the person is overacting the part, when you don't understand a word that he or she saying.

The great thing about dvd's are, it has both the Japanese and English track on it. Pick the one that you like or always use and stop whining about it!

Geez!

I always try to watch both languages...sometimes putting on the Subtitles to compare..

the only dub I can't really stand and really dislike are the old Samurai X movies by ADV. It was on of their earlier dubs though, and they have gotten better since.

I will never forget in the samurai X moive when the "kaoru" calls Sano- "Sano-Sookay" Made me giggle a bit.

I'd rather have Nate hit me in the face with a shovel then watch anime in Japanese. Dunno why, but I prefer listening to English. So there, put that in your subs vs dubs pipe and smoke it.

The worst anime voice ever is the Japanese voice of Chiyo in Azumanga Daioh... She sounds like she's 3 years old... And people say the Japanese voices are better... Bah.

After her, though, it's the voice of almost any CPM dub... *shiver*

then Luna from the Dub of Sailormoon.

Honestly, though, what if Vic came in here and heard you bashing his peers? Well, I mean if they truly have no talent, that's one thing, but just because "the Japanese is better" isn't enough reason, I don't think...

The problem with subtitles are that you have to take your eyes off the action sometimes to read them, and so the anxiety of missing something creeps in (though I doubt you actually do). For the most part, however, if the dubbing is bad I skip the Japanese voices and subtitles.

Junko Takeuchi - absolutely horrible, one of the worst voice actors I've ever heard, just has a super irritating voice...

Masako Nozawa - seriously, could they have found a WORSE voice actor to play Son Goku? I propose that they could not. Terrible. Absolutely terrible.

Kappei Yamaguchi and Satsuki Yukino - geez, so generic and BORING. I'm annoyed just by their inability to even remotely be interesting or unique.

Jouji Nakata is blah however Crispin Freeman rules the voice of Alucard.

Actually in the way of anime, sometimes you're stuck choosing between two evils. =P Example, in GetBackers several members of the Japanese cast overact, while they all sound the same and rather flat in the English.

Genji's voice. Must kill Genji's voice.

ENTIRE CAST o' SAILOR MOON...

Oh, and also Excel from Excel Saga. I know its really intentional, and the Voice Actress deserves a medal...but WOW. That voice is just hard on the ears, man.

The twin sisters in DNAngel were so annoying in English and Japanese that I couldn't stand watching the anime anymore. Also, in Chrono Crusade, I thought the VA for Sister Rosette sounded like she was 6, not 16! That alone drove me to watching the sub. I can deal with annoying voices, though, if they fit the character.

The dubs for Yu-Gi-Oh! and St. Tail both drive me crazy, but that's like 8/10 script butchering, 2/10 voice acting.

And watching subtitles isn't for everyone, really. When I was a kid I watched TV with the captions on, so I guess I'm used to it. (Never knew why I did that, though; just did XD) There's a rhythm to watching subbed anime, I guess, and you just get used to it, if you can. That's my 2 cents on that matter.

Agreed....ow...she really grates on the ears... I have only been able to watch Exel Saga once through...
