Trigun (Review #2)

Name: Trigun (the complete series)
TV Spots: Aired near April/March 2003 on Cartoon Network, unedited; available on DVD and video through Bandai
Summary: I won't repeat what Archan summed up so lovingly, so you can see the first review for a good synopsis.
What's good: Storyline is interesting and stimulating on par with if not better than most anime. It's also relatively short (26 ep). And there are several philosophies/ideas that align nicely with Christian doctrine on such things as love, hate, revenge, jealousy, alcoholism, prostitution and murder. There is, suprisingly enough, sparse if any reference to eastern mysticism or religions such as buddhism or shintoism.
What's not: there is quite a bit of violence; not up there with Evangelion, but people will get shot/killed. And yes, there is blood, but it's not graphic, it's actually quite tasteful. There is also some language, but only in the first two or three episodes is it really out of context; after that it's usually "justified" for some reason, so while it's not pleasant, it's understandable (i.e. someone's angry or etc.). There are a few mild sexual references (i.e. butt-grabbing, comments by drunks) but it was never in excess. Also, the villians are truly nasty people who are not in their right minds, so be prepared. Pinky and the Brain this is not.
Ash's notes: definately high up on my list of favorite animes. I really love the way they dealt with most of the themes that came up; my favorite was the alcohol message. They didn't make having a beer seem cool or fun, but accurately portrayed it as a mind-altered state and made characters seem stupid and even sick to their stomach. The voice actors are beyond awesome as well; no corny, hashed lines. And the animation was quite good...sure, towards the end they skrimped a little, but nothing distracting. It was quite a series, and I whole-heartedly enjoyed it. A lot of people will want to question Wolfwood, who is portrayed as a sarcastic, witty priest who doesn't have quite so honorable hands. I actually enjoyed Wolfwood and didn't find him offensive. And his redeemption/salvation scene towards the end moved me to tears.
Also Available: Trigun Maximum (manga), the trigun series as a manga
Suggested age rating: I'd say if they're old enough to handle James Bond, they'll handle Trigun extremely well. So I'd say about 14/15. Heck most PG-13 movies are about equal if not worse.
Final notes: this review is for the entire series as seen on Cartoon Network's adult swim, which is unedited. I also started to make a bible-study curriculum based off the series if anyone is interested, you can email or pm me for it.

*tenatively* ...Am I allowed to post here?
_

Are you saying there are only 26 episodes of Trigun?! :wow!: I can't live with so short a wonderful anime!

Actually sometimes short series are better, since the storyline isn't so dragged out, but thats just an opinion.

Great kinda add-on-type review Ashley! Trigun is such a good series huh? ^_^

Being new, you may be unfamiliar with the rules of these forums (and indeed forums in general), ATrueReveiw. Your post boils down to gravedigging, which is bringing back ancient threads. As you can see, this thread is over a year old... making it one of the oldest threads on these boards.

It is acceptable to bring back a thread if you have something new to add. But I think that you'd require a bit more justification than a one sentence positive review.

And the staff would appreciate it if you didn't take up an attitude when you're corrected. Someone as knowledgeable as you must be surely is conscious that every post has a date stamp. Secondly, was it necessary to dig this thread up to post something that at least half the members on the board could have told you, in about as much detail?

To prevent any further digression, this thread will be locked and allowed to slip into the archive. If you wish to contest the point, please take it to PMs.
