Not sure if this has been posted yet. There is a anime festival in Wichita, KS on August 17-19th, 2007.
Official Website
Schedule
They recommend splitting rooms 4 ways at the Best Western for 79 bucks a room. That can include up to 4 free breakfasts as well. And a weekend pass in 20.00.
Has anyone been to this one before? Is it worth a trip from 4 hours away?

IMA GOIN!!!
!!
IMA SELLING MY ARTWOOOORRK there!
!
Doe Johnson is going too. ^_^
I travel 3 hours to get there, and it's a young festival, so they are trying new things every year... since I am selling artwork, I will be confined to a table...so i won't get to do all the fun stuff you guys get to do...(unfortunately...) but from what I hear they have a lot of fun events planned.
Again, keep in mind this is the Festivals THIRD year, it's not going to be perfect, and hey, it's not Otakon, or AFW...Kansas just isn't California or the NorthEast...anime is still rather small here... -_-

If we get enough CAA'rs going, we should set up some sort of meeting place. I wonder if we should set up a booth there? Maybe promote CAA a bit? Just an idea. I'm going to try to make it. I'll have to see if I can get away from work, though.

I think all the booths have been taken, unfortunately...=_='
but yes!! I hope MANY CAAers can come!!

I don't understand. Almost every day when I go outside I see at least two Asian people walk past me. Over 2/3rd's of foreign people here are from either Japan or South Korea. We even have a children's book about the relationship between Iowa and Japan.
So why don't we have even a small Anime convention here? Are we just un-liked? Or are we just a very, very small interest here?
I wish I could go because it's just barely connected to my own state, but I can't drive alone yet nor could I find the money to afford it...

I live in Wichita, so I've been to both so far and will attend the third. As noted above, it's not a
major convention, but I think it's worth a four-hour drive.
I've posted some cosplay pictures from last year's con
here and
here.

Perhaps, but I doubt that I stood out. I wonder if I saw you?

I had angel wings with a fake halo on Saturday.. (I was dressed as Rakka from Haibane Renmei..)
And I was also with a rather tall girl who was wearing red with classes and long curly hair.. XD
On Sunday I was wearing a cow hat with a black fox tail... I was working at that mean Asian guy's store...(I really really disliked that man...>_<)
ANYWAY Back on topic...
AFW is a pretty good Con...the only thing that kinda wierds me out, in a good way is the MC. XD Peter Pixie...he is just awesome.. XD
He is this little short guy... who wears this awesome purple or silver outfit with a top hat and thes platform boots to make him taller....
Anyways.. I CANT WAIT!! IT's gonna be fun! I have a lot more of my friends going...

I must not have seen you.
Haibane Renmei is a particular favorite of mine, and if I had noticed a Rakka, I would have asked to take her picture.

Peter is quite a character. In additon to AFW, he organizes
Rocky Horror Picture Show evenings, horror film festivals and similar bizarre activities.

Despite not being far from Wichita, I have yet to attend. To be honest, I have little interest in conventions unless I'm meeting specific individuals there. We'll see how this year develops.

You can meet the members of CAA! Let's all meet at the second water fountain to the left of the white phone near the right door of the entrance in the lobby. Sound good?

It does appear we have another. We'll see if it fits into my schedule and what things are like at that time.

OKAY everyone!!
I just thought I would tell you all that right now I believe it is 25 dollars to register (until July 31)
And a flat rate of 79 dollars a night is for the hotel.. It's a VERY nice hotel... I didnt' get to stay in it last year, but it is a really good one (I had to stay in a really bad Days Inn next door...bleeh)
As of last week there are like 20 Dinner passes left. If you want to eat with the stars and listen to Vic Mignogna sing, and others perform kareoke then you might want to get your passes soooon!!
Just thought I would give you all a quick heads up...

I'm going with a buddy of mine that gets a corporate discount, so I'm not sure which one we'll be staying with. Christian, do you have a menu of your wares you will be selling? I was just curious if you had a list and prices...

Right now I am still working on artwork to sell.. but I think I have some things that may interest people..and it's more than just original prints.
Right now I am working on a series of tiny anime sculptures, called "animemals." These "animemals" can sit any where you like, right now I ahve a few designed to sit on your computer and watch you..(I have even made some that can hang on flat screen montitors.) Those are about 3-4 inches tall and I will be selling them around 7.50 a piece. (depdending on the size and effort I put in them.
My prints will be my own original drawings...(No fan art can be sold) and I will be selling them for a competive price. (in other words hwo much others are selling them for) Right now I am thinking, however, if that doesn't work, they will be around 6 dollars for a colored print, 3 dollars for a black and white line art, and 1.50 for sketches...
Does that sound reasonable?
You cna check my art out at
http://www.christiankitsune.deviantart.com
You can pre order what you like too.. I need some ideas as to what I am exactly gonna sell.. XD But there is some time before I go to the printers too..

Pricing doesn't seem out of line. But, then again, I've never been to a Con. So, I'll have to shop around first. You, know, make sure I gettin' a good deal!

if I remember correctly some people were selling stuff for like 20 dollars...O_O I will never price my stuff that high at a con...XD I would never make any profit..
I am also thinking of giving some of my earnings to charity, but I need to do some research about which ones I should give some too..:/
And it is always wise to shope ^^
